I remember this case. Eight years in prison is only a little more than a slap on the wrist for a murder. She deserved life in prison for this. Shoving a frail old woman is extremely serious. In general, many elderly people can't react as fast as younger people (in this case, she may not have been able to stop her fall because her reactions were slower); are weaker & have bones that are more brittle than younger people; etc. Obviously, in this case the shove was a death sentence.

<modsnip - inserting race into the discussion when race was not a factor in this case>

I agree. 8 years is not enough time behind bars for killing an elderly person, IMO.

The bottom line here is that the minimal sentence here for this obvious murder just illustrates how little this country/society as a whole values the elderly. That being said, if this victim had been extremely wealthy/influential/powerful and/or had wealthy/influential/powerful family members/friends - I strongly suspect that the perp. here would have gotten a much longer sentence.

And, this entitled perp's "tears" when she was sentenced make me sick. She wasn't crying because she murdered an innocent elderly woman - she was crying because she got caught & is going to have to do time for this horrific crime. Give me a $%#%#*@ break.

IMO JMO At least it’s a sentence. Faith in justice notwithstanding, as time went by I got worried. Also as a petty note: if she is 5’7” as per media, my associate (who is not a doctor) commented “that’s one helluva weight gain”

I agree that eight years is not enough, and I don't think she's really the type to learn anything and change her ways. However, given her coddled entitled life, she's definitely going to have a rude awakening for quite a while before she adapts. And I also thought it was a good possibility that with her families money that she would get no jail time, so that at least is a relief.

Every article and every word written about her made her seem like an absolute nightmare - rage-filled, screaming at people in her apartment building, flipping out because they closed the park she was in and taking it out on a defenseless elderly woman. Society is definitely a better place while she is locked up.

Has Pazienza ever explained why she did it?

Not in her own words. Her lawyers claimed that she wasn’t aware of what she was doing due to the mixture of wine, cannabis, and prescription drugs in her system.

Pazienza, an heiress to a Long Island cesspool-drainage empire, sat tearfully in court after pleading guilty to manslaughter for the 2022 attack

'Her former college classmates previously described her as 'pure trouble' and 'a danger' who was prone to violence. '

'Surveillance footage showed Pazienza watching as emergency responders arrived and treated the elderly woman, who had blood seeping from her head.

She then phoned Pereira but 'said nothing about the fact that she had just shoved an older woman to the cement,' prosecutors said.

'Instead, she started to argue with her fiancé, accusing him of ruining her night. Right before they went to bed that night, the defendant finally, for the first time, turned to her fiancé and told him that she had pushed someone. She said that she thought the person had fallen, and she walked away.'

Prosecutors said Pazienza then went to hide at her parent's Long Island home and spent more than a week trying to cover her tracks.

She quit her job, deleted her social media pages and wedding website, and stashed her phone at her aunt's home so police wouldn't find it. ''

This case is infuriating. The sentence is disgusting. If she had not been a rich, spoiled woman, she would have been sentenced for what she deserved. 😡

I love this quote from the article

"She was named a suspect and on March 19 and turned herself in after police visited her parent's home.".

Let's actually fix that to the truth...she was hiding at her parents house, and her parents lied to the police. She was arrested after the police got a search warrant for the home.

If her fiancé wants to stand by her side, I hope she appreciates him.

Take my motherly advice, young man, don't marry her. It's admirable to not abandon her, but you can do that as a good human showing kindness to a friend in need.

Don't marry her.

Then, it is like DUI, drugs and alcohol are aggravating circumstances.

Agree totally. Just no honey, no. The money isn’t worth it. She is singing a sob story now, but she sounds like a totally toxic human being. That sort of toxicity is not caused by drugs and alcohol, no matter what her lawyer says.
