NY - Child Charged in Slide Tampering

  • #21
Ya know, the more I think of this, the more upset I get!

What if Sean has slid down the slide on his stomach (like my boys love to do)?

Can you even fathom the scope of his injuries if he had?!

I don't think the system is doing right by the victim, Sean. JMO

My boys like to go down the slide face first and on their bellies. It's awful to think about the possible damage the victim could have suffered. The photo of his cut is horrendous.

The mother of the 11 yr old seems to be enabling him with her state of denial...

This is a snippet from the article:

"An 11-year-old knows the difference between right and wrong, but what an 11-year-old doesn't know is are the consequences of his actions whether right or wrong," one doctor said."

At what age are we as parents supposed to teach our children consequences? I think this doctor is full of it.

I'll bet if I had an 11 yr old child and I held up a razor and asked him/her what would happen if I put it in a candy bar and gave it to him/her and he/she bit down on the sharp side....that child would be able to tell me exactly what could happen....plenty old enough to know the consequences of biting into a razor. They know consequences a lot younger then 11 yrs.

I can't believe the mother doesn't think it was intentional! No wonder the kid is a troubled kid. I can see just what road this boy will travel down with mom making excuses all along the way.

This is terrible! It's like nothing is normal anymore. Nothing is sacred anymore. Can't even take your child to the park without checking to see if the play- ground equipment has been tampered with to hurt children.

It's like this world has been surrounded and taken up by madness and evil. I have my feelings on a religious basis why I feel this is happening but I know I shouldn't go into that.

Sorry for this downer of a post. Just upset that good people can't just live their lives in peace.

I know what you mean and it isn't going to get any better either. It's a sign of the times and evil is running rampant. I keep thinking that nothing could shock me anymore but then along comes something that is a real shocker like this. The mother of this boy shocks me just as much as his deed did.

ITA with you and the post you quoted. I do realize the media allows us to hear more of these stories, but I personally believe that there is a different type of evil out there and more of it. Maybe it's moreso that people have refused to be accountable for their actions or take responsibility for anything and many parents enable the behavior or actually believe that actions such as this are "okay"?

Also Bobbiesangel, I agree with you in regards to "what would happen if you munched on a razor blade". My kids, I believe, would know exactly what would happen if they imbedded a razor in a slide too. I think the doctor seriously underestimates how early a child learns consequences. I've seen 3 year olds who can understand the consequences of pulling on the dog's tail, they know somehow that the dog could turn around and snap at them. Thankfully I've never encountered the 11 year old who sabotages playground equipment.
