'Santos says he expects to receive maximum sentence: ‘I’m totally resigned’

"Santos, a controversial figure, said he fears for his safety and plans to make an application to serve his sentence in protective custody.

“Number one is, I plan to serve the entirety of any [incarcerated] sentence in solitary confinement because I fear for my safety,” Santos told Gaetz. “So it is definitely not an easy task, and it’s a monumental one to do.”

I'm curious how many of the inmates where he'll be housed even know who the guy is?
Poor baby is scared shirtless and wants protective custody.

"The judge ruled he must surrender by July 25."

Santos, who pleaded guilty last summer to federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, appealed for mercy. In a federal court a short drive from his old congressional district, he said through tears that he was "humbled" and "chastised" and realized he had betrayed his constituents' trust.

“I offer my deepest apologies,” he said, adding: “I cannot rewrite the past, but I can control the road ahead.”

U.S. District Court Judge Joanna Seybert evidently wasn't convinced.

“Where is your remorse? Where do I see it?” she asked as she sentenced him to 87 months behind bars. “It’s always someone else’s fault.”

Guess he won’t be able to make money from Cameo appearances. He won’t be relevant upon release.

After getting sentenced to 7 years in prison, George Santos issues a statement begging Trump for a pardon.

And may be successful. Trump just pardoned Michele Fiore who was convicted on six counts of federal wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She spent the money meant for a statue honoring a slain police officer.

Well it worked for Michele Fiore...

Edit -- sorry, missed this posted upthread.

Seems like the key element for success in eliciting a pardon is a long, energetic history of grift and some combination of donations + social media genuflection + histrionic claims of "political witchhunts" etc, however dubiously founded, with obvious guilt not a consideration.

Santos certainly ticks those boxes with aplomb.

I’m heading to prison, folks and I need you to hear this loud and clear:
I’m not suicidal. I’m not depressed.
I have no intentions of harming myself, and I will not willingly engage in any sexual activity while I’m in there. If anything comes out suggesting otherwise, consider it a lie…full stop.
The statistics around what happens to gay men in BOP custody are horrifying, and that’s exactly why I’m putting this out there now. So if something does happen, there’s no confusion.I did NOT kill myself.

An alleged plot to kill ex-Long Island Rep. George Santos in the New Jersey prison where he is serving a 7-year sentence has landed the disgraced politician in protective custody, according to a new column.

Santos wrote about the alleged threat against his life in his latest column in The South Shore Press, which was published Tuesday. Santos, who was sentenced to more than 7 years in federal prison for defrauding his donors and lying to Congress, has continued to pen the column for the Center Moriches-based publication while behind bars.

Santos, who has complained about the conditions in prison in previous columns, said his stay at FCI Fairton "changed drastically" on Aug. 28.

So you all can understand my situation, the Box I’m in, as I said, is 15x17 ft, extremely dirty with no ventilation, with musty, dirty air, and my only source of drinking water comes from the top of my toilet," Santos wrote. "The shower only runs ice-cold water, and showers are only extended 3 times a week, with soap that does not lather or foam on recycled underwear from other inmates. There is no dignity, no humanity in this place. I’m being tortured every day and gaslighted on that it’s for my ‘safety.’"

Santos said his stay in the SHU has also stripped him of his ability to make daily phone calls and have family visits.

Hard to believe a liar. Who knows what's really happening and WHY.
