GUILTY NY - Ex-President Donald Trump, charged with 34 criminal counts of falsifying business records, Apr 2023, Trial 25 Mar 2024 #4

It's over. He was sentenced to unconditional discharge, so nothing, no time, no community service, no fine - just now being called a "convicted felon". He won't be able to carry firearm but he will be the commander of the military and President. JMO
In my opinion they didn’t achieve what they set out to do, it backfired. He is still going to be the President and Commander in Chief. The whole thing was a joke and what kind of sentence is that. moo

Everything that has been done to him has only emboldened him. Glad this is over. JMO

"This has been a very terrible experience," Trump said before sentencing, wearing a red tie with white stripes.

"I'm totally innocent, I did nothing wrong," he said

With his sentencing, Trump can now be formally classified as a “convicted felon,” as the Justice Department notes being sentenced is necessary for a conviction

I don’t think it’s over yet. There will be appeals. bbm imo

Trump, 78, sounded off on Truth Social following the brief hearing, claiming that “Radical Democrats have lost another pathetic, unAmerican Witch Hunt.”

“Today’s event was a despicable charade, and now that it is over, we will appeal this Hoax, which has no merit, and restore the trust of Americans in our once great System of Justice,” he wrote.

It's not a real sentence (MOO).

And, he's still able to appeal. No punishment whatsoever and he can appeal and have the conviction reversed.

Of course, he was always going to be President and Commander in Chief, no matter what sort of sentence the judge imposed.

Why didn't they wait until his term was up for sentencing, and then he could have been fined at least?

One sure way to get rid of penalties for criminal behaviour. Become president. I hope this doesn't set a precedent for decades to come.

imo
I think it will set a precedent for lawfare. All one needs to do is put a Frankenstein of a case together, as in this instance, and go after your political opponent. imo

I actually don't understand how people think it is okay to commit fraud, to store and keep classified documents in their bathroom after leaving their official position, to conspire to sway election results ... and the myriad of alleged crimes that have now been swept under the carpet.

But that's okay. We will likely never agree about the criminal behaviour.

imo

President-elect Donald Trump

“I get indicted for business records. Everybody should be so accurate. It’s been a political witch hunt. It was done to damage my reputation so that I’d lose the election. And obviously that didn’t work. And the people of our country got to see this firsthand because they watched the case in your courtroom. And then they voted, and I won.”

“The people of this country understand what’s gone on. This has been a weaponization of government. They call it lawfare. Never happened to any extent like this, but never happened in our country before. And I just like to explain that I was treated very, very unfairly. And I thank you very much.”

Defense lawyer Todd Blanche

“American voters got a chance to see and decide for themselves whether this is the kind of case that should have been brought. And they decided. And that’s why, in 10 days, President Trump is going to assume the office of the president of the United States.”

This case will be done when it's appealed and any reasonable person can see that it was a total injustice from the very beginning. JMO.
It makes me wonder if that’s why President Trump thanked the judge. What they’ve done helped him get elected. imo

Trump apparently has called Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, but the Justice says they didn't discuss this matter. Interesting timing of the call. imo

The question of votes comes amid news, first reported by ABC News, that on Tuesday, Trump called U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, one of the most far-right jurists on the top court, purportedly to discuss a job reference.

“We did not discuss the emergency application he filed [Wednesday], and indeed, I was not even aware at the time of our conversation that such an application would be filed,” Alito said, ABC reported. “We also did not discuss any other matter that is pending or might in the future come before the Supreme Court or any past Supreme Court decisions involving the President-elect.”

'All eyes on SCOTUS' after Trump loses sentencing bid at top NY court
The ethics involved in such a call left me speechless
It seems remarkably inappropriate!!!!!!
RSBM
IMO this call was not appropriate. IMO it is disrespectful to our laws, our court system and the jurors on this case. JMO
