I keep thinking that Amish children would not get in a car, due to their life and beliefs. Unless intensely coerced or threatened. I could be wrong, I just can't shake that.

their community. It does feel a little intrusive. So glad they got an arrest, but it's getting curiouser and curiouser !

The good thing is given their culture, they don't use the internet or watch tv. So their privacy is secured. Except of course that in their culture, everyone knows they were abducted and who they are.

I find it very strange that they returned the girls rather than call 911 right away. My assumption was they were surprised, of course, and weren't thinking straight. Perhaps they thought that since the girls were Amish, their family wouldn't want to involve the police. But, that's not the rescuerers' decision to make. I don't know what to think of that except it's another odd piece in an odd story.

Regarding the girls seeing the red car, that might be entirely true. Or, it may be just a red car. I'm guessing they aren't practiced at identifying specific makes and types of cars. I'm not either - all cars are sort of the same to me except for size and color. I really don't pay attention because I don't care that much about cars, and I obviously live in a car culture. For these girls, they probably care less than I do and just saw red (literally and figuratively). But, if it's a real spotting of the real car, it's spooky. The perps went searching for the girls for recapture?

It conflicts with their media interviews and I cannot imagine LE allowing two abducted kids to be in the custody of any unrelated citizen for even one minute, let alone 13. LE had no idea at that moment what had happened and who were to blame. No way would they just allow them to be driven home by some random couple. They would take the kids immediately into their custody and have them assessed and give statements. With LE present.

But it is just just another odd piece of the story. I'm just glad that couple was there to rescue them.

It seems during this case that the LE really used care and respect for the Amish culture and the family.
There were no photos taken of the family with with cameras and news people camped outside their home- etc.
It was not a full blown media event that would have totally invaded the the Amish family and their community.
I think LE put controls in place to ensure their privacy.
I believe LE did an incredible job.

This idea came from some anonymous poster. I don't find it credible. Police wouldn't have let them drive the girls home (escort or not), considering police would have no way of knowing whether these two were in on it at the time.

Speculation:

Regarding their travels, it's possible they met up with others and indulged in their fantasies in different cities. Ugh. I don't know how to phrase that delicately. It could be there are "circuits" or gatherings for vacationers to hook up with.

My hunch at this point is they were getting deeper into this creepy subculture and decided to try abductions of their own, perhaps with an eye toward making money off it. Just a hunch at this point, awaiting info from LE.

All this is speculation. JMO.

Fed charges would be child pornography, IMO, which is a federal offense when put on the internet or downloaded, because that's the most likely federal offense they would find evidence of, in the home, as opposed to trafficking, for example.

That's what I meant about the word "normal".

Ted Bundy was "normal" too. He was educated, good looking (to some), well liked and respected and extremely personable. Until he wasn't.

I don't know. I know what you're saying but Bundy really wasn't normal. At age 3 or so, he lined knives up around his sleeping aunt and stood there grinning horribly at her. He tortured animals as a youth, like his grandfather/father. He was a joiner but a total loner and had really no friends in high school and I don't think really any I'm college either.

JMO, but the fact that these two girls were dropped off by them, they've been said to be cooperating, and the fact that this couple had no priors, it makes me wonder if this was possibly a first major offense (though they may have been building up to it with internet porn). I also sense that it may have been a drug-induced crime (both have access to these in their now former professions)--maybe if they were on a high they were somewhat aghast at what had transpired...at least one can hope.

One of the suspect's sisters also works at the grooming place. There are a lot of relatives, and while there may be one or two who are less than wholesome themselves, I feel bad for the many relatives who would have had no idea this was coming.

You might be right. Federal offenses indicate these two have likely been involved in crime for a time, just not caught. It's sad.

On another subject, as to the girls here, I won't speculate as to what happened to them if anything other than kidnapping. It's none of my darn business. LE will seek justice for them. I hate the whole conversation about it, personally!!

I know. But it makes zero sense. I know of no LE protocol that would allow that. Plus, it conflicts with their media interview including the statement that the suspects car was in the road and that the girls ducked when they saw it, while being driven home.
