NY - Five men gang rape 18 yo woman in Brooklyn playground, January 2016

I find it very mean for us to be second guessing her poor father. He made the only rational choice he could have made. They would have shot him, and then what? My heart goes out to him. What a nightmare he is living through with his baby girl. I hope they can lean on each other for support.

I still refuse to blame LE for not responding quickly enough. As I said, many articles are critical of the speed with which LE arrived on scene. But it appears they were there VERY quickly after being notified. Remember, there was no 911 call.

These officers did the best they could.

Something seems off to me too.

JMO but they would have to shoot me.

Yup. Me too.

And no cell phone? No bystanders?

Thank God he found the officers when he did.

I don't find it hard to believe there were no bystannders. Why would these guys rape someone with a bunch of people around? And hwo knows if they didn't rob dad and take his phone? Why aren't we blaming the 5 t h u g s for raping this poor woman? Geezus. I'm so tired of people blaming cops for beeing too quick and then blaming them for not being there. Cant have it both ways. MOO

Does that seem odd considering they were described as being in their 20s and 30s?

No. I have a 16 year old sonn annd he could easily pass for 20.

I totally agree. If he had resisted in any way, the monster with the gun could have shot and severely wounded him or killed him, thereby rendering him unable to run and get help. At least he was able to escape the scene and get the cops. Who knows what would have happened to her if he had not been able to summon help. It doesn't sound like fighting or resisting these savages would have done anyone any good. This is such a horrific crime and to find out some of the suspects are as young as 14 and 15 years old. What the heck makes someone that young capable of that kind of violence? I will never understand it. This poor woman and her father have been forever changed by the callous, disgusting, reprehensible actions of these five.

The only cop blaming I saw was in the news articles. I have not seen anyone on this thread blame the police. So I don't know to whom your post is directed.

They got there as fast as they could have. They were not notified for 20 minutes.

Those pieces of filth had ample time to brutalize that poor girl. :(

Based on some of the articles I've read I can believe there were no bystanders because the park sounds like a place no one wants to be after it gets dark. Plus wouldn't it have been cold at that time of night? If there were other people nearby they might not be the kind of people who come forward to help others.

Well I did't quote anyone so my commennts were generically based on the same artticles you have read. I agree they got there as quickly as they could. I don't blame the father or the police. the blame is on the T H U G S who brutalized and ruined this poor girl and her fatthers lives!

The criticisms I've seen have to do with the delay in LE getting information out, not the delay in arriving at the scene.

Borough Eric Adams sharply criticized police for what he says was an 'unacceptable' delay in getting vital information to the Brooklyn community.

"A rape takes place on the Upper East Side, it would not take two days for that information to come out, and the people to be protected, and the people to be aware," Adams says.

Sources tell Eyewitness News in the hours and days following the alleged rape, detectives did interview the victim at length, and canvassed the neighborhood looking for possible suspects. They say when they found the surveillance video, they immediately released it.

Yes, I saw that, too. But in several of the articles, a spokesperson for the PD said that there was no delay in responding (as if in reply to criticism) and that the officers went immediately to the scene, before calling EMS or their supervisors.

I will find some links and quotes, but prob not until morning.....there was quite a bit of response time criticizing in SM and in MSM comment sections, which may have been what LE was referring to.

Nighty night, Y'all.

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york...sponse-rape-report-brooklyn-article-1.2491590

A bodega clerk on Sunday said he turned away the victim’s father when the man asked to use the store’s phone to call 911 moments after he and his daughter were set upon in the Osborn Playground in Brownsville.

The Gaston deli staffer, who gave his name as Sammy, said he didn’t believe the man’s story.

“He looked normal. He didn’t look nervous or desperate,” the clerk recalled.

“A lot of people come here asking to use the phone. I feel bad now knowing why he needed the phone.”

“She’s OK,” the victim’s mother said. “I want them to get caught and go to jail for a long time. I feel bad, horrible.”

Police released surveillance video Saturday of the group walking into a nearby deli before the attack. “They looked happy,” a clerk at that deli told The News. “They are bad guys.”

I haven't seen them described being in their 30s. As for seeming odd, they look older than 14-15 in the video. But teenagers grow up fast these days.

Mmkay.

Few questions:

1)The victim and her dad were drinking beer in the park? Or did that statement mean the rapists were drinking in the park where the dad and victim were? The victim is 18, yes?

2)Sorry, but I have an issue with dad taking off and leaving his daughter alone with these "bad boys" (from link). I am a woman and you'd have to kill me first before you got to my baby, grown woman or no.

3) 20 minutes to find help? What? Maybe bad reporting, but my hinky meter is going full hink on that.

I have a gut feeling there is a lot more to this horrible story than meets the eye.
If perps killed you, you couldn't go out to get help. Then the daughter would likely get killed as well. And that would be good, somehow?

IMVHO the father was faced with losing his life and possibly that of his daughter or going to get help, leaving her there with the perps. LE responded immediately once they were aware there was a problem.

If the father was delayed in reporting the crime for crucial minutes because he was denied use of a phone or someone refused to place a call for him then shame on that person. I do not know the legalities of refusing to allow someone to phone 911 but morally it is reprehensible.

The perps are to ones who warrant blame and our attention.

unless or until there is some indication from LE that there is something hinky with the delay the father is a victim along with his daughter and this discussion will reflect that fact.

I wonder if the daughter feels the dad betrayed her by leaving.... Part of me thinks if Dad stayed and did end up injured or worse, in the daughter's eyes, that may seem more honorable than him leaving her there alone.

Arrests have been made, how in the world did they think they could get away with this crime.... Pack of hyenas roaming the street. If they are not charged as adults it would send the wrong message. Jmo

ciao
Did those guys actually think that because a girl may have been drinking, she was fair game?
Did they really think sex on the cold ground, in a public park, in the presence of a gang of teens and a father, who will no doubt return shortly- is a desirable and consensual experience for a girl??!
imo

rbbm.
The young woman told WABC she screamed for help, but no one stopped.

"I didn't know what to do," she said. "I was in a panic mode."

She suffered cuts to her arms, neck and knees during the assault, police spokeswoman Arlene Muniz said. The teen was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and released.

The young woman, law enforcement sources said, was drunk and combative, and investigators could not interview her the night of the attack. She bit one police officer and refused to be transported to the hospital, the sources told CNN.

On Sunday night, authorities said four suspects -- ages 14, 15, 15 and 17 -- were in custody, and charges were pending. Two of the teens turned themselves in, and the other two were apprehended, New York police said.

At least one of the suspects in custody told investigators the sex was consensual, law enforcement sources told CNN.
