The 911 call was a relatively routine one for first responders: Smoke in the stairway of an apartment house on Leighton Avenue.

But what they found on the scene was both unusual and horrific. Four bodies lay on the floor of the attic, each with signs of trauma unrelated to the fire. Firefighters knew right away they were standing in the middle of a crime scene.

Those four residents — Michael Adams, 45, Jennifer Leasure, 29, Michael Royal, 28, and Lachelle Powell, 22 — were murdered sometime in the late night hours on Jan.10, 2016 in the house, located just two blocks south of the intersection of East Main Street and Culver Road.

The bodies of four people were discovered in the attic, their arms were restrained, duct tape was placed over their mouths. It is believed the fire was started to cover up their murders...

Investigators believe the murders may have been drug-related but they’re not sure everyone who was in the home at the time and was killed was involved...

RPD investigators have run down hundreds of leads, reviewed hours of surveillance video and spoken with dozens of tipsters but none of it has panned out.
