Garnett Spears had a sodium level so high it was "not compatible with life" four days before he died, a doctor brought in to consult on the child's case testified Wednesday at his mother's murder trial.
"The child was very sick; I did not think he was having seizures," Dr. Ariel Sherbani said about his exam of Garnett on the evening of Jan. 19 at Nyack Hospital. "I was very concerned."
Sherbani, a pediatric neurologist, said he was called to consult on the Spears case on Jan. 18 to help determine "whether the child was having seizures and, if so, what type of seizures."
On the evening of the 18th, he said, Garnett was "awake, alert and seemed fine."
