Yeah. G didn't testify because the defense didn't prove their case? Or because she wouldn't have been able to control her narrative? I am sure that the defense was chomping at the bit for a cross.

Ummm, Christmas basically starts Thursday night, since it is "officially" on Saturday. I predict the world's quickest jury panel.

I agree, she is going to do some menial time, stay quiet, and dissappear.

Good ol' GM, carrying on JE's legacy of expecting massages. Hope BS got paid enough for that public display.

I wonder how much she is being paid to represent Epstein’s ex cell mate

I think she was court appointed for him and no longer represents him…but bizarre for sure in this twisted cast of characters.

'Our Clients Life Is On The Line': Ghislaine Maxwell's Attorneys Beg Judge For More Time To Track Down Witnesses

Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown tweeted Friday morning that defense attorneys were facing a series of obstacles, including one defense witness who has ignored a federal subpoena to appear for the case and another who plans to plead the Fifth Amendment. A third possible witness has COVID-19, Brown wrote.

Defense attorneys had also hoped to call an 81-year-old witness living in the United Kingdom, but he is unable to arrive until Monday. The man is the owner of Nags Head pub, a bar located across from Maxwell’s former London townhouse.

He was expected to challenge the testimony of one of the accusers who testified that she met the British socialite at the townhouse, The Independent reports.

While the defense had once been expected to call 35 witnesses, Maxwell's defense team said late Thursday that they may rest their case as early as Friday, NBC News reports.

@MarlonEttinger

Biggest development at charging conference is the defense is getting a lot of the foreign travel parts of the counts knocked off. Prosecution tried to defend 5-6 based on Virginia Roberts appearing in flight logs, but Everdell argued there was no testimony showing purpose.

At the end of the conference I was in the elevator with Bobbi Sternheim, Jeff Pagliuca, and Christian Everdell. I asked if they got everything they wanted. "If we got everything we wanted, we wouldn't still be here."

Judge finalizes jury instructions at Maxwell sex abuse trial

British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell appeared in court on Saturday for a rare weekend hearing where attorneys made arguments about how the judge should instruct a jury on the law in Maxwell’s sex abuse trial.

U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan scheduled the hearing — held in an otherwise closed courthouse and with jurors absent — in an effort to keep Maxwell’s trial on a fast track that will have her case reach a jury early next week. Closing arguments and Nathan's reading of about 80 pages of instructions are set for Monday.

Prosecutors and Maxwell’s attorneys spent the morning in federal court in Manhattan sparring over the exact wording the judge will use to describe to jurors the legal elements that must be proven to convict Maxwell on six criminal counts, including sex trafficking of a minor. One of the requests by Maxwell's lawyers that was approved: the judge should refer to her as “Ms. Maxwell” instead of “the defendant."

The jury in Ghislaine Maxwell's sex abuse trial may weigh whether the British socialite "consciously avoided" knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein's alleged encounters with teenage girls, the judge in the case said on Saturday.
……
During a Saturday conference, Maxwell's defense objected to a proposed instruction that the jury may convict her if they conclude she deliberately ignored any criminal behavior by Epstein.

They argued that since prosecutors elicited testimony from women who said Maxwell was directly involved with Epstein's alleged acts, the jury cannot also be told that "conscious avoidance" was proof of guilt.
……
But Nathan said that since the defense had implied in its Nov. 29 opening statement that Maxwell, despite her closeness with Epstein, was unaware of his alleged behavior, it would be fair to include the instruction to the jury.

This would not be an uncommon story; women turning a blind eye to the criminal acts of their partner so as to maintain their income, or the perceived benefits of the alliance. Offhand, I can't think of any such situation where a female partner was convicted under these type of circumstances, unless she was actively involved in the criminal behavior. IMO, that's what will need to be proven for a conviction in this case, and it will be hard to prove unless the witnesses overwhelmingly convince the jury.

But Epstein wasn't the one recruiting women.

Ghislane was actively out searching for damaged young girls. Annonymous damaged children.

She was searching for psychologically injured children who had little support to track them down or question their behaviours. And then she was participating in the sexual abuse.

She's the one on trial, not him.

Well unless I misunderstood, she is positioning that whatever transpired was because she herself was a victim? But I do think she might have dissociated from some of what was going on. Or, she could have been equally a Perp. IDK. Regardless, she seems debauched; I think there will be a token sentence and she’ll slink off to the chateau.

Unless the state drops the charges she still has a perjury trial to look forward to.

A mere formality for the Teflon lady I speculate. Too many powerful people have much to lose if she starts singing. This is all so….inconvenient. This will all miraculously go away.

Miss Sweden and Bugs Bunny add up to a bad day in court for Ghislaine Maxwell

...Ghislaine Maxwell’s defence in New York opened with a nice lady who hadn’t seen anything, a travel agent who booked flights years after they mattered and a professor of BugsBunnyology – and none of them cut the mustard.

From John Sweeney's bio he's unlikely to claim to be a completely impartial journalist in this case, but still an interesting and encouraging summary of the defence case from an observer who was in the room (IMO)

(apologies if I've linked/quoted this article in the wrong manner - newbie to posting :D )

I get the impression that she can be convicted of thought crimes. That is, she allegedly knew what Epstein was doing with girls but chose to believe that they were giving him a massage, so she's guilty of believing the wrong thing - perhaps by choice. Can that choice be proven? What am I missing in this included option for conviction?

"Defence lawyers fought successfully for the judge to refer to the British socialite as ‘Maxwell’ instead of ‘the defendant’ and jurors were told they can weigh up whether she ‘consciously avoided’ knowledge of Epstein’s abuse of underage girls."

Apparently the jurors are psychiatrists and mind readers? They have no way of knowing whether she knew and ignored, knew then dissociated, or knew and actively consented and participated, unless the witness statements damn her as being an active Perp.

That's where I'm going with this as well. It sounds like the jurors are asked to know what was in her mind without hearing from her. No one knows what was in her mind, neither victims nor jurors, in my humble opinion.

Really? An 81 year old man remembers everyone who met anyone in his pub? That is unbelievable.
