Ghislaine Maxwell trial: Live updates as closing arguments underway
The defense has wrapped its closing argument, telling the jury that Maxwell is only on trial for her connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
“She’s being tried here for being with Jeffrey Epstein,” lawyer Laura Menninger said. “Maybe that was the biggest mistake of her life, but that was not a crime.”
The prosecution will now have a chance to issue a rebuttal, before Judge Alison Nathan gives the jury its instructions.

Prosecution rebuttal has started, then judge will read her 80 pages of instructions to the jury. Looks like the jury may be sent to start deliberations today…maybe select a foreperson and take a quick vote?
Four of her siblings were seen arm n’ arm going into court today for closings. Any mention of her husband(?) there today?

I was unable to live-tweet the defense summation, but I am currently working on a story about it.
The jury appeared very much engaged with the closing statement by Maxwell's attorney Laura Menninger, inspecting evidence on their screens and taking notes.

Comey: If the witnesses wanted to "frame Maxwell," the witnesses would have put her in "way deeper." She notes that Annie Farmer, for example, alleged that Maxwell touched her breasts but added that Maxwell didn't touch her nipples.

Sooo Maxwell is only on trial because of her connection to Epstein. Wouldn't be interesting if everyone who had connections with Epstein were but on trial for that connection?

During the defense’s closing argument, Menninger did not hold back on her attacks on “Jane”: “Her lapses of memory pervade this case.”
Two of those details that Menninger said that “Jane” bungled were when she said that she saw “The Lion King” in New York and when she recalled going to the 80th birthday party of the late journalist Mike Wallace. Both events, the defense said, occurred during years inconsistent with “Jane’s” account.
During rebuttal summations, Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey said that was the type of “peripheral” detail that has no bearing on the core memories of sexual abuse.

“Jane” said that she met Maxwell and Epstein at the prestigious Interlochen academy in Michigan, where Maxwell walked by with a “cute little Yorkie.” Evidence showed that Maxwell had a Yorkshire terrier, and “Jane” appeared on flight records from Traverse City, the closest airport to Interlochen. “Jane” said that the initial meeting happened in 1994.
