Judge Nathan says that the juror whose spouse announced a surprise trip doesn't know whether it could be moved. The judge is inclined to move ahead regardless.

Judge Nathan: The supervisor for the juror expressing a financial hardship said she'd "check" whether paid leave could be extended. You have 10 minutes, the judge said she replied.

Maxwell's lawyer said a "tsunami" of news coverage would make a fair trial impossible, but the jury knew little about the case.

One juror, who never heard of her, said of Epstein: “Billionaire who solicited prostitutes and underage girls.”

Note: The "tsunami" comment was made well before voir dire.

This is a developing story, based on what the jurors said during voir dire questioning.

Clarification about the juror who generally knew about Epstein as a "billionaire":

When I asked ex-U.S. Attorney Berman years ago if Epstein was a billionaire, the prosecutor's reply was: "No comment."

Also, this juror had heard Maxwell was Epstein's "girlfriend."

The juror otherwise did not know about the allegations against her.

My opinion: I doubt prosecution would make, or consider, an offer.

Agree. I think the prosecution has all sorts of receipts and a very strong case.

I wonder if Madame Maxwell will end up testifying, as has been hinted. I think she has the chutzpah to do it. Those depositions from the JE case, there were just pages and pages and pages of her not saying anything at all of substance, no quarter at all. IIRC, she did get angry and pound the table at least once, so the prosecution has that in their toolbox, as well. It seems very foolhardy, though, too big of a chance to open doors the defense wants closed.

Another juror: “I believe I was watching football & I just switched over & the news was on and I just, you know, heard that he committed suicide, & Ms. Maxwell name was mentioned briefly, and I just kept it &—went back to watching football. That's all I could really remember.”

Yes, her table-pounding was reported by media. I would like to hear how the trial progresses before making a guess if she'd testify. Let's see how damaging the evidence will be. Oh how I would enjoy watching this trial. I believe media needs to take up its reporting several notches.

She does not want the black book/s brought into trial, prosecution is saying they only want to use part if it.

If she is facing 80 years and they only want to use the part to get her and she is trying to save others ( in the book) she maybe could threaten to release all if they go after her for 80 years. Just a thought.

AUSA: "Who was that woman targeting young girls for sexual abuse? It was the defendant: Ghislaine Maxwell." "She helped normalize abusive sexual conduct." Prosecutors are expected to talk about "grooming" at trial.

AUSA: "She put them at ease [...] all so they could be molested by a middle age man." "There were times when she was in the room when it happened."

About "Jane." That's how three of the four "Minor Victims" of the indictment are anonymized. One is public.

I can't recall how the judge ruled on admitting all or parts of black book into evidence. Anyone know?
