I thought all of the victims were believable and it was incredibly striking, how similar all the manipulation was. Madame Maxwell had found a system that worked and she utilized it repeatedly.
I applaud victims for their courage. And getting money in a settlement is like offering someone a Band-Aid for a head wound. There are always going to be people who give these women a side-eye, like they were somehow complicit in their own abuse. Years of therapy and a lot of trauma that will affect every relationship they have.
I also think it's difficult for some people to imagine that this kind of stuff goes on with these jet-set, incredibly well-connected, wealthy people. Like people who are supposed to be so fabulous couldn't possibly be predators.
I thought Maureen Comey was a very effective prosecutor. I thought the defense was grasping and desperate. I do not imagine she was a pleasant client to work with, even without such a sordid case.
MOO and sorry for rambling; I hate waiting for verdicts.
