NY - Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein confidante, arrested on Sex Abuse charges, Jul 2020 #5

  • #441
Judge Nathan: The sentencing submissions did not express remorse or accept responsibility. Ms. Maxwell is entitled to exercise her right to go to trial. But I will take into account her lack of remorse. I conclude that a sentence of 240 months is right.

She is also fined $750,000.
Wow, she really actually got 20 years?

Will she stay 20 years or is there a possibility of parole???

Do we know if she's even eligible for a program like that? GM doesn't seem to believe she needs any kind of therapy, she doesn't have kids, substance abuse doesn't seem to be a factor, she's not needing back-to-work support, and she's a sex offender, so probably has special programming.
I don’t know if she‘s eligible but her attorney requested it.

There is no parole in federal sentences AFAIK. However, IIRC there's a discount for good behavior that applies to most inmates.

GM is classified as a sex offender, yes? It would be a travesty of justice if she isn't.

There will be many women inmates in a prison who were victimized by sex traffickers. They are not going to be lovely to her.

What about the clients??

Good behavior is around 50 days a years reduction I believe

Fined a whopping $750,000

That is a slap in the face to her victims, imo

Where does that $750,000 go? Surely not to the victims. Unreal.

20 years and a fine is too good. This doesn't send a message to anyone. They lured people to a private island with no escape. A hellish nightmare for anyone who had contact with Epstein and this trash bag of a person.

Between Epstein and Maxwell, justice was not served. Some of their victims voices have never been heard and they've never been compensated. These people took so much from others and he gets to die taking his secrets to the grave while Maxwell gets to go to the fancy, cool, Netflix prison (lol).

Does she get to keep her money? Will she be able to access her accounts and finances while incarcerated?

I don't care if Maxwell has a $1 bag of chips, it should go to her victims before anyone else IMHO.

20 years isn’t enough.

I think she will stay in prison for 15 years.

How long has she been incarcerated?
2 years?
Plus, 3 years for "good behaviour".

And I predicted 15 years for her/that was what I thought the sentence would be.

MOO

Can the victims still do a civil suit against GM?

Ghislaine Maxwell told her victims she hoped her sentence would bring them “a measure of peace and finality” moments before she was handed 20 years behind bars.

The British socialite said meeting Jeffrey Epstein was the “greatest regret of my life” and that she wanted to “acknowledge the suffering” of her victims.

Maxwell arrived for the hearing wearing a prison-issued uniform, with shackles around her ankles which rattled as she made her way to her seat in the courtroom in the Southern District.

Ghislaine Maxwell could spend her 20-year sentence in the low-security facility that was the inspiration for the women’s prison in Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black.”

US Circuit Judge Alison Nathan recommended that Maxwell serve her time in the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, a 1000-inmate facility about 55 miles from New York City. Maxwell’s lawyers requested she be sent to Danbury following her sentencing on Tuesday.

Does anyone know about the funding Prince Andrew was ordered to pay out to Giuffre? IIRC Prince Andrew agreed to put money into some kind of foundation for victims but I've never seen anything about what foundation or who is eligible for support.

Unreal, wanting to acknowledge the suffering of her victims. Maybe her head will get stuck in a toilet.

Her attorneys have "fined" her for a lot more than $750,000.

What she had obtained from her crimes - lifestyle of luxury and privilege for many years - is far more than $750,000.

Assuming she won't have a mug shot at Danbury.
