There is no way the vet and zoo aren't concerned at this point. I've seen a few either contractions or calf movements, but nothing like I have seen. I can see her udders now when she turns a certain way. I am like others have mentioned, worried for April and the calf or calves. I keep praying all will be OK. I've never seen an animal in active contractions for this long without progress. Cows hide their labor as does most animals, because they are ALL considered at risk during labor and delivery for predators. Horses are preyed upon as well.

How long has she been doing the mannequin stance? Seems like at least a week. I remember mentioning it before. And NOW they say that stance is contractions? Well, no animal should be having that strong contractions for a week.

I wonder if anyone from that zoo has contacted other zoos yet? Even the zoo April was at prior and gave birth, to see what her pregnancy and labor was like there? For those interested in the vet, google him. Timothy Slater I believe is his name. Country Vets in NY. I don't see anything in his write up that states he has been the vet for a zoo before. It said he was overseer, and a school teacher, works with farm animals, and small animals.

I know. This really worries me now too. Seems like it has gone on too long. Now what? :sigh:

This is not being asked for anything here - is Buzz Feed considered reliable etc?
Not really. Not known for fake news but they specialize in click bait articles.

She's going to take it to full term.............just be patient. The kids' gonna be born half grown, it will be healthy.

4/4 Morning Update

Morning Keeper report is that April continues to ignore grain, and back end swell is noticeably larger than day prior. We, like many of you, sat up in bed or were inches from our screens a few times last night. She keeps us guessing. Rest assured, all is well, there is no distress, no pain - she is simply (but slowly) advancing. From what we have been told from prior facility - when she has her calves - she calves very quickly - which has us all on our toes as it is!

Giraffes should get yard time today - though we will watch the skys - as thunder storms are predicted and Lightning is a bad thing for giraffes!

I don't think I have ever watched the rear-end of an animal so much in my life! I think I need to get my head examined! :gaah:

I watched live stream for about 10 minutes before I headed :offtobed: last night. First time I'd seen April lying down, but she didn't look restful. Breathing heavily, and I noticed a lot of movement in her body. :praying: she and her calf are alright.

Im with you. When I first starting watching her, (many weeks ago), I thought this is like watching paint dry. Now I love how majestic and beautiful April and Oliver are. If I would put this many hours into anything else I would have accomplished something grand. LOL

I've received two TEST! TEST! labor alerts since I signed up last night. As I suspected, I slept through the first one. However, I realized I didn't even have my notification sounds turned on.

Not helpful, LaborOfLobe. Not helpful at all!:giggle:

This photo came in one of the text alerts. She looks so cute, it reminds me of CARIIS saying she looks like a big doggie (with a long neck!)
