I had a mare who had given all of the signs of being ready to drop her foal. I fixed a light so that I could look out on her several times each night. As time grew closer, I put her in a cozy stall, with said light, shining into the lot so that I could check on her from the house. This went on seemingly forEVER. One night, things were out of sync, and I didn't put her in the stall, and forgot to plug the outdoor light in, nor was I able to check on her through the night; So she had no light shining on her (as was normally the case), no ME peering at her at all hours, and was free to roam her pasture as she pleased. The next morning I had a foal.

I so agree they need to move, to get sun in their eyes in regulates the rhythm for all things living, moo

I do the Word Roundup puzzle every morning on The Detroit News website. Today's puzzle includes "eight baby animals", one of which is "calf". Maybe April will have her baby calf today :)

I hope so, BetteDavisEyes, calf seems to be getting rather well done and by the time she births, the calf will be 7 feet tall and 170lbs and will be a juvenile Giraffe.

Twitter question. I had a neighbor do a Twitter to connect with the guy that had been doing really good Periscopes on the dam.

When it goes from a black check mark to a blue one how does Twitter know that? I am assuming that most people Twitter DM have dozens in their mailboxes.

How does twitter know if the one has "opened" for lack of a better word.

Like let so it like email. click on it it goes from bold not regular. Indicates opened.

How does Twitter know to turn it to blue on DM?

Sorry CARIIS, but I don't know much about twitter at all. But today I saw a twitter trending due to United Airlines kicking off the customer. I am about peeing in my pants laughing at all the clever # of " new United Airline mottos" that have been done in the last 24 hours.

No baby giraffe cuteness, so here is some kitten cuteness from a few minutes ago when one of the sleepy baby kitties rolled into the kitten pile :loveyou: :loveyou: :loveyou:

Ikr? Poor Glenn. I miss Abraham the most though. Sasha went out in an awesome, I did it my way, fashion!

If that giraffe were anywhere nearby any of those folks, I'm sure they'd not be sitting around waiting and watching for the miracle of birth. She'd be bar-b-q'd Gee-raf sandwiches for all as fast as Daryl could aim his crossbow. :yuck:

April was outside a lot today (somebody jump in if I am wrong on that!) and between the fresh air and sunshine and the full moon I am hoping tonight is the night! She looked worn out when I checked on her at 430 ish EST.....

You guys we have a problem! After we started throwing missles around I took a short timeout! Dear mods, I would appreciate it if you allow ME to make that decision!!

That's funny. Point --this sounds messed up --but she looks a lot IMO less fat than she did does anyone else agree?

What could that mean?

http://www.nwcn.com/news/houston-zoo-announces-birth-of-newborn-giraffe-calf/430528570

While the world waits for April the giraffe in New York to give birth, the Houston Zoo announced its own baby Masai giraffe was born this week.
Zoo officials say after a 2-hour labor, mom Tyra gave birth to a yet-to-be-named calf at 9:04 a.m. Monday in the McGovern Giraffe Barn at the African Forest.

I feel like there's some kind of "Houston, we have a problem" joke to be made here. LOL

For some reason (Dobby too) when they are so young they remind of ET!!

I thought so earlier when she was walking in from outside her knees looked weak .

Yes! I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this! Maybe it is the streamlining others have talked about?

4/11 Evening Update

April's condition remains the same: happy, big and beautiful. She enjoyed extended yard time today in the warm weather and sun.

This evening's photo is from our exclusive content library accessible to Labor Text Alert subscribers. Oliver and April have both been enjoying their new enrichment gift.
