Prostitution is illegal because it goes hand in hand with drugs, gambling, the mafia, etc. You can't just look at it from the "between two consenting adults" angle, IMO.

Yeah, well. This is where my Libertarian views take over :)

I agree 100%.

Think about all the other sordid crimes that happen because it is illegal - money laundering, tax evasion, spread of disease. When you push something like this into the back room, it becomes more of a problem than if you had just made it legal & regulated it. Women are being mistreated & abused, spreading diseases, children are born into it. I am not saying this wont happen if it was legal, but, at least it would be more out in the open & you could deal with some of the issues.

Not to mention the fact that maybe, if we taxed all that income, the government would have an extra revenue stream that wouldnt include my property or income taxes...

Well - gambling is legal in many places now - again, consent.

Drugs - some drugs are more harmful than others...

Mafia - well, they are usually bullies, so I would argue that there would not be consent in most of their actions. Also, the breaking of several laws...

These things do not go hand in hand.

If that were the case, he still would have structuring his money to hide the fact that he was seeing them that is the crime that got him caught.

Also if he purchased the money orders for $1,000 each, and a third for $800. to pay for prostitutes, he could (and should, imo) face prosecution under money-laundering statutes for financially supporting a criminal enterprise. Libertarian veiws aside, it is illegal in Washingon and NY as the law stands now.

In all reality johns are not ususally punished outside the public humiliation

Spitzer's Brother: The Darwin Defense

Nomination for most eye-popping quote about the N.Y. Gov. Eliot Spitzer prostitution mess, from the Wall Street Journal:
His brother, Daniel Spitzer, a neurosurgeon, said: "If men never succumbed to the attractions of women, then the human species would have died out a long time ago."

She made herself available (just like a lot of women do on Friday and Saturday nights for free at your local bar) and the men sought her out (like they do in the bars on Friday and Saturday nights)

It's the person who made the vows to their spouse who are culpable in this.

I heard a FOX reporter say earlier that her record sold for .30 yesterday but is up to .99 today and it has been downloaded 1 million times. WOW.

No wonder she's keeping all her sites up and not changing them to private.

No she didn't deserve a cheating husband nor does any woman really and her personal decision as whether or not to divorce is her private business. I hope she continues with her work in spite of this.

I totally agree.

Since so much information has come to light in the media about Gov. Spitzer's alleged 6-10 year perseverance of soliciting high-priced prostitutes and that as much as $80,000 may have been spent on this selfish endeavor ... does anyone think that possibly his wife may have known of (or seriously suspected) some of his sexual trysts long before it was made public?

IMO - most wives know "something" - even if they don't know the extent of what they know or instinctively feel.

For a variety of reasons - some spouses tend to overlook the infidelity & betrayal - even pretend it doesn't exist - as long as it is discreet and not publically known.

As Silda Spitzer is an extremely bright & intelligent woman - and married to this man for 20 years - do you think she knew anything of her husband's extra-curricular activities (proclivities)?

Just askin' ... what are your thoughts?

I agree 100%.
Where money is involved, and not declared as income, there's tax evasion, and the penalties are harsh. Federal offense, and all that.

This is indeed a windfall for her, as so often happens in this kind of case. The book deal is next.

Book deal, Playboy or Hustler deal, gossip mag deal...

I really don't know, my first thought is yes she knew on some level.

I read that during one of the Hillary Clinton humiliations she said she would never stand by if it were her, she would be outta there. My guess is she just thought it would never come to light being that Spitzer is smarter than Bill Clinton, jmo

"That would never be me. I'd be gone," Silda told friends, a pal told The Post.

Just IMO, I didn't know "anything" for many years in my first marriage. When I started realizing "something" I began doing my own investigation which led to our divorce. His cheating had been going on for many years. He was just a good con man, and had a job that required him to travel.

I really don't think Silda is the type to put up with this, but I've been wrong before.
