NY - Gov Spitzer tells staff he's linked to prostitution ring

I was very surprised to hear that she didn't want him to resign, even after hearing all of the details. I guess that she doesn't want to give up the power and prestige that comes along with being the governor's wife. I'm not sure, though. I guess that only time will tell if their marriage will survive.

Hey all - I moved this thread to "Up to the Minute", as it's really not a political topic. Carry on.

Thanks Adnoid! :blowkiss:

It was my mistake in posting it here. I was klutzy as I didn't quite know where to put it. "Up to the Minute" is, of course, the proper place.

Thank you! SO glad you are our new mod - a most welcome addition!!! :D

I totally agree.

Since so much information has come to light in the media about Gov. Spitzer's alleged 6-10 year perseverance of soliciting high-priced prostitutes and that as much as $80,000 may have been spent on this selfish endeavor ... does anyone think that possibly his wife may have known of (or seriously suspected) some of his sexual trysts long before it was made public?

IMO - most wives know "something" - even if they don't know the extent of what they know or instinctively feel.

For a variety of reasons - some spouses tend to overlook the infidelity & betrayal - even pretend it doesn't exist - as long as it is discreet and not publically known.

As Silda Spitzer is an extremely bright & intelligent woman - and married to this man for 20 years - do you think she knew anything of her husband's extra-curricular activities (proclivities)?

Just askin' ... what are your thoughts?

Rum Tum

I have a really hard time believing she didn't have a clue. I think these prominent couples get to the point that they have a mutually beneficial thing going - they look at it (their power and their lifestyle) as "bigger" than their marriage, if that makes sense. Hill and Bill, for example - same thing. As long as no one knows, and often even when many know, they just keep on truckin.' It works for them. Also she (Silda) may have said she'd be "outta there," if this ever happened, but now we shall see whether that is true. Maybe when the consequences become clearer, she will decide which way to go. It's the old Ann Landers question "Are you better off with him or without him?"

What I find amazing is that he paid $4000 for each encounter! I haven't read that much about it, did he charge it to the public somehow? What a guy! How many call girls make $4k a pop?

Lol I would be too embarrassed to do a book but I guess if your a prostitute shame went out the window a long time ago.
It's only money; she is choosing to live large, as they say.

The ultimate insult to his wife is to allow her to go out in public by his side. He should take the prostitue to stand with him. At least that's honest.

For all we know, they could have an open relationship. In all this mess, I'd like to visualize her and the twenty-something Chippendale wannabe having a margarita and giggling together over this.

FWIW, I told my husband that if he ever held a high office AND decided to chase skirts, rest assured that I would not under any circumstances be standing next to him on stage while he confessed his deeds to the world.

His answer? "I'll just never hold a high office." :slap:

I have heard other women explain why they continued to stand by their husbands when everything hits the fan, they do it for many reasons, I I believe is that in the first days they're in a state of shock. Another reason is they think they need to hold things together for the children, to keep a united front. None of us really know how we'd react given the same situation. When things die down and they're able to finally get their head clear many do divorce, one couple was where he was having an affair with a male aid.

As far as if she knew something, I'm pretty sure he was able to cover his tracks, it was not an on-going affair where he was emotionally involved with 1 woman, it sounds like he scheduled these in when he was away on business, there would be no late night calls or gifts for a mistress, they came to him they were not out being wined and dined.

I wish the best for her and believe she will come out of this in time fine but it has to be horrible right now and also very horrible for their teenage girls.

It sounds like she is an outstanding individual who contributes alot to New York!
It sure does! Just reading the post made me tired. :D Sadly, her husband's foolish behavior is going to cost the citizens of NY a lady with a lot of class and a lot of energy working for them. I really feel for the children the most though. All too sad! :(

Maybe she didn't know because it wasn't like he had a mistress that he had an emotional tie with. So if he just had these little one nighters, every month or so,why would she suspect? No bills to florists or jewelers,no unusual phone calls. A once in a while thing is easy to hide.
And frankly she looked to bad to have known, the shock was written all over her face.

I'm sorry, I just HAVE to do this. Maybe this could be Ashley's next hit song

PROSTITUTIN' SPITZ
Tune: "Puttin' on the Ritz"
Lyrics By Charles Henrickson

If you're guv And wish you knew
Where to get love Why don't you do
Like hypocrites
Prostitutin' Spitz

Girls with names You find out after
Play their games And soon you hafta
Call it quits
Prostitutin' Spitz

Hooked up with a thousand-dollar hooker
Now you're stuck inside the pressure cooker
Lookin' snookered Call-girl tricks
Of pure excitement Pay for kicks
With your indictment
Paging Fitz
Prosecutin' Spitz

Have you seen the prostitute Chargin' high and lookin' cute
You're a famous VIP Now we write your RIP
Phone calls And wiretapping
Net falls It's you they're trapping
Spendin' lots of cash For a thrill and a rash

If you're guv And wish you knew
Where to get love Why don't you do
Like hypocrites
Prostitutin' Spitz

Girls with names You find out after
Play their games And soon you hafta
Call it quits
Prostitutin' Spitz

Hooked up with a thousand-dollar hooker
Now you're stuck inside the pressure cooker
Lookin' snookered Call-girl tricks
Of pure excitement Pay for kicks
With your indictment
Paging Fitz
Prosecutin' Spitz

(Wiretapdancing)

Hooked up with a thousand-dollar hooker
Now you're stuck inside the pressure cooker
Lookin' snookered
If you're guv And wish you knew
Where to get loveWhy don't you do
Like hypocrites
Prostitutin' Spitz
Prostitutin' Spitz
Prostitutin' Spitz

Exactly. I am sure she is her own woman - with or without her spouse. I see no need for her husband's change in station to change her.

  • #354
True, but she didn't have to do it. It gives him public support and makes her look like a fool.

A fool?! We do not know the intricacies of her heart or their relationship. Perhaps she chose to stand by his side because she loves him and knows he is going through a hard time just like she is. Perhaps they have an open relationship as far as sexual partners go.

snippet from first thread:
"The first lady chairs the New York State Commission on National and Community Service, which is committed to building strong service programs, expanding the volunteer base, and promoting the vision of One New York though community building and civic engagement.
The First Lady's work with the Commission complements her Live New York initiative, which idenitifies service and volunteerism as critical factors in the next generation's perception of what makes communities attractive and desirable places to live and work.
"She is spearheading a 'Greening the Mansion' initiative and the related 'Green Residential Building' initiative to complement the governor's efforts to reduce New York's energy consumption by 15% by the year 2015.
She is also committed to building voting and civic participation among women and served as a driving ....."

Her list of accomplishments go on and on! Maybe she should run for Lt. Governor.

Local station in TN has pictures of Kristen. Click on link, see "on demand" and there are pictures of Kristen and the Emperor's Club.

I see the Emperor's Club ad says that she is 24 years old. I wonder if that photo is indeed "Kristen." It's hard to tell because her face is blurred. If it is she, they have have added a few years to her age to make her more attractive to the older clientele, so to speak...

That was my thought too, Nan.

Prior to hearing that she wanted him to stay on & fight for his governorship - I hadn't given a thought that she might be aware of his transgressions. I thought she was as shell-shocked as the rest of us.

Learning that she wanted him not to resign his/their position after she realized the depth & proof of the allegations, gave me immediate pause to consider other schools of thought. I do believe that Silda was absolutely shell-shocked that her husband's secret activities had been exposed - and in such a shocking & public way.

I seriously doubt that Silda knew or realized the depth of the deceit (especially the exhorbitant prices paid & money laundrying practices) but I somehow think they've had "issues" in the past about his "sexual escapades". She may have thought the past "issues" were resolved & over with now that he was the governor of N.Y..

Even though Silda stated in that article regarding the Clinton fiasco that she would leave - 'not put up with it' .. every woman says the same thing - until it happens to her.

Considering Spitzer's father's family fortune estimated at 500 Million dollars, a 20 year marriage and 3 teen-age daughters - Silda just may end up eating her words and stay with this arrogant jerk. One never knows what one will do until the "unthinkable" happens to them.

He has selfishly trashed & destroyed the beautiful, grand & highly respected lifestyle Silda & their daughters have always known & cherished. He has publicly embarrassed & humiliated all of them.

I honestly don't know how one could forgive such ego-based, selfish & egregious transgressions. "Sorry" just doesn't do it for me. One simply cannot un-ring a bell.

I'm rather interested to see how this plays out. Like you said, Nan - time will tell.

I personally think that I might cut my losses. She would get a substantial settlement, I would think. She is still young enough, attractive enough to find someone else if she so chooses. She also has a law degree from Harvard, doesn't she?
