Ramsaran took notes and appeared at ease all day, at times with his feet up, smiling and joking with security guards and his new attorney, Gilberto Garcia of Hackensack, NJ.

He did show grief and cry a bit at one point during the defense's questioning of the jury, when Garcia asked the juror pool if any of them had ever been wrongly accused of something they didn't do.

If potential jurors followed the case on FB, they were immediately dismissed. Also, prosecution warned potential jurors that trial will be filled w/disturbing and unusual issues incl "deception, graphic evidence, adulterous relationships and sexually explicit content..."

6 Signs of Narcissism You May Not Know About
How can you recognize the fragility behind the narcissist’s grandiosity?

1. Has a grandiose sense of self-importance.
2. Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love.
3. Believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions).
4. Requires excessive admiration [regularly fishes for compliments, and is highly susceptible to flattery].
5. Has a sense of entitlement.
6. Is interpersonally exploitative.
7. Lacks empathy: is unwilling [or, I would add, unable] to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others.
8. Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her.
9. Shows arrogant, haughty [rude and abusive] behaviors or attitudes...

Thanks for posting~ it's a great news story, except I think the lady's map is wrong -- she's got Jen's body being found a very long way from where the phone was found -- and in the opposite direction from their home.

I also think the journalist was wrong in stating that Jennifer was unaware of her husband's affair -- that may be what Remy said, but "the truth always comes out."

Hello folks...Been a long year and half awaiting Justice for Jennifer Ramsaran, her family, and friends.. I've been catching up today after seeing the new Joe Mahoney Daily Star article and refreshing my memory at the websleuths JR thread-article links & *media maps & timelines*..

It is very interesting to go back to that tragic December 11, 2012 day and read the snipets of the msm articles from the ws media maps & timelines thread --> http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...-11-Dec-2012-*media-maps-amp-timelines*/page3

No tears for the victim? Or is he considering himself the victim?

"Seven jurors were selected on Tuesday. Judge Frank Revoir anticipates the selection process to be completed by Wednesday, and says opening arguments could begin as early as Wednesday afternoon."

What a cocky thing to do! And the jury will get front row seats to the show. Perfect!

Oh, please. It's not even Oscar season yet!

I can't wait for Justice for Jennifer.
It's been a long time coming.
I know we're all sending thoughts and prayers Jen's family's way.
This has got to be so difficult for them.

I think he'll be convicted. I really do.
I do sometimes worry about there being no COD, but stranger cases have seen convictions with lesser evidence, right?

There was no definite COD for Allison Baden Clay.

I think her husband thought he was going to walk away but he was found guilty of murdering Allison.

Half of jury picked for Ramsaran trial

Seven jurors were selected Tuesday in Chenango County Court for the murder trial of Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran, accused of killing his wife, Jennifer, at the couple’s home in South New Berlin on Dec. 11, 2012.

A total of 12 regular and two alternate jurors are needed to be empaneled before opening statements are given to the panel by Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride and defense lawyer Gil Garcia of Hackensack, N.J.

Tracy Stearns of Cooperstown, one of the organizers of a support group for the victim’s family, Justice for Jennifer, said jurors were asked by the lawyers if they participated in Facebook or had any connection to the telecommunications companies Verizon and AT&T.

The evidence in the case is expected to include the iPhone that belonged to Jennifer Ramsaran and was located by her husband one day after he reported her missing to New Berlin police.

Has any other US trial taken such a stance in Facebook pages or any other Social Media? They seem to be putting so much emphasis on FB, they had the pre-trial closed because of J4J, and are now excluding jurors if they have ever even seen the page. Jurors are normally advised not to read social media once on the jury - but before, could just about exclude anyone that has had a friend share the page.

They seem to be trying to set a precedent based on social media.

It is a little concerning … who is going to end up on the jury? People who are not world-wise and savvy? People who may not understand the Find A Phone app? People who may not understand how a person can appear to be at home, logged on and working on their computer, when they are actually not there at all?

In a case like this, where they are excluding anyone who has even seen the FB page … a page that has had thousands of viewings, locally and internationally … I think it would perhaps be better to have a trial by judge. At least then we would know that someone with a certain degree of knowledge in the use and abilities of technology would be determining the verdict.

Not suggesting that the jurors will be dimwits ... but we are dealing with a crime allegedly committed by an IT worker.

All good points, SouthAussie.. The scales of Justice should not be tipped in the favor of the defendant over the innocent murder victim, imo... The Judge in this trial must still be living in the 1970's, imo.. If not for the ms media and internet social media coverage of JR's disappearance, she may never have been located, imo. The sawmill landowner walking his property was aware that JR was still missing partly due to the awareness created by the media coverage...

(defendant is not entitled to a jury entirely ignorant of the case and cannot prevail on
a motion for change of venue merely by showing a general level of public awareness
about the crime
).

The jurisprudence shows that the usual practice among trial judges is to wait
for voir dire examination of prospective jurors to determine whether jurors can lay
aside their impressions or opinions, and render a verdict based on the evidence
presented in the case.

I think judges, especially in small, rural communities are having difficulty adjusting to the community's presence in social media. It's like were almost silenced and walking on eggshells about what we say on J4J now. We don't want to have any negative affect on jury bias and all that jazz.

But...on the other hand, what about FB posts that GR made, practically begging people not to search for his wife? Remember that? I read a recent article that said that social media posts can be used in court proceedings. I don't know how they can be used or the rules and regs pertaining to this though. Interesting stuff. Remember that party GR threw while his wife was still missing? Yet he gave tearful pleas in front of the cameras while being interviewed about Jen? Hmmmmm

Peter Wlasiuk, was a local man who was tried and convicted three times for the murder of his wife in Norwich. That must have cost a fortune. Bet they don't want a repeat of that mess...

I agree, Jilllian.. Wonder when the Courts/Justice System/Judges, are going to catch up with the rest of society? Hello, even the CIA, FBI, and 70% of all other Law Enforcement Agencies in the US utilize the resources of internet social media in 2014...

9/3/2013 - FBI Interactive Social Media: The Value for Law Enforcement
http://leb.fbi.gov/2013/september/interactive-social-media-the-value-for-law-enforcement

The increase in use of interactive social media in the last 5 years has changed how people live their lives. Individuals use smart phones to post photos, identify their location, and advise what they are doing. If law enforcement agencies fully engage the public by using social media, the department and the community benefit by increasing collaboration and enhancing investigative capabilities. With well-planned implementation, the use of social media can impact community issues, and police departments and citizens can work together to solve crimes.

Many law enforcement agencies have expanded their involvement in social media, using platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Nixle, to deliver information to their communities. One benefit is that departments can send data directly to the public. Law enforcement organizations can use these sites to inform people of upcoming activities and current investigations where they need public assistance.

Is this going to air live does anyone know?

I think the judge is trying to ensure that Social Media cannot be used as ground for appeal. I'd assume the DA feels his case is solid enough that it can be explained to a jury. All of the IT issues in this case could easily be broken down for any audience.

Most remote connections will determine if a user is active if there is any activity on the PC. If there is no activity for 5 minutes then it shows the user as away. This is fairly easy to spoof. You can use a bot or script to randomly move the mouse and type messages into an email that will pass as activity.

http://www.evesun.com/news/stories/...cted-in-opening-day-of-Ramsaran-murder-trial/

From the above story:

Chenango County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. instructed the potential jurors that the defendant has the right to a fair trial regardless of what they may have seen, heard, or read. “If you tell me that you cannot put certain matters aside and render a fair verdict, you will be excused,” said Revoir.

“I heard so many things on TV, I don’t think I could give a fair verdict,” said one potential jurror.

“I’ve heard things, I’ve seen things on the news, I have read things. I have my opinion,” said another.

Both were excused, along with dozens more.
