Ramsaran took notes and appeared at ease all day, at times with his feet up, smiling and joking with security guards and his new attorney, Gilberto Garcia of Hackensack, NJ.

He did show grief and cry a bit at one point during the defense's questioning of the jury, when Garcia asked the juror pool if any of them had ever been wrongly accused of something they didn't do.

Thanks for posting~ it's a great news story, except I think the lady's map is wrong -- she's got Jen's body being found a very long way from where the phone was found -- and in the opposite direction from their home.

I also think the journalist was wrong in stating that Jennifer was unaware of her husband's affair -- that may be what Remy said, but "the truth always comes out."

I think her husband thought he was going to walk away but he was found guilty of murdering Allison.

Half of jury picked for Ramsaran trial

Seven jurors were selected Tuesday in Chenango County Court for the murder trial of Ganesh &#8220;Remy&#8221; Ramsaran, accused of killing his wife, Jennifer, at the couple&#8217;s home in South New Berlin on Dec. 11, 2012.

A total of 12 regular and two alternate jurors are needed to be empaneled before opening statements are given to the panel by Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride and defense lawyer Gil Garcia of Hackensack, N.J.

Tracy Stearns of Cooperstown, one of the organizers of a support group for the victim&#8217;s family, Justice for Jennifer, said jurors were asked by the lawyers if they participated in Facebook or had any connection to the telecommunications companies Verizon and AT&T.

The evidence in the case is expected to include the iPhone that belonged to Jennifer Ramsaran and was located by her husband one day after he reported her missing to New Berlin police.

Has any other US trial taken such a stance in Facebook pages or any other Social Media? They seem to be putting so much emphasis on FB, they had the pre-trial closed because of J4J, and are now excluding jurors if they have ever even seen the page. Jurors are normally advised not to read social media once on the jury - but before, could just about exclude anyone that has had a friend share the page.

They seem to be trying to set a precedent based on social media.

All good points, SouthAussie.. The scales of Justice should not be tipped in the favor of the defendant over the innocent murder victim, imo... The Judge in this trial must still be living in the 1970's, imo.. If not for the ms media and internet social media coverage of JR's disappearance, she may never have been located, imo. The sawmill landowner walking his property was aware that JR was still missing partly due to the awareness created by the media coverage...

I think judges, especially in small, rural communities are having difficulty adjusting to the community's presence in social media. It's like were almost silenced and walking on eggshells about what we say on J4J now. We don't want to have any negative affect on jury bias and all that jazz.

But...on the other hand, what about FB posts that GR made, practically begging people not to search for his wife? Remember that? I read a recent article that said that social media posts can be used in court proceedings. I don't know how they can be used or the rules and regs pertaining to this though. Interesting stuff. Remember that party GR threw while his wife was still missing? Yet he gave tearful pleas in front of the cameras while being interviewed about Jen? Hmmmmm

Peter Wlasiuk, was a local man who was tried and convicted three times for the murder of his wife in Norwich. That must have cost a fortune. Bet they don't want a repeat of that mess...

I think the judge is trying to ensure that Social Media cannot be used as ground for appeal. I'd assume the DA feels his case is solid enough that it can be explained to a jury. All of the IT issues in this case could easily be broken down for any audience.

Most remote connections will determine if a user is active if there is any activity on the PC. If there is no activity for 5 minutes then it shows the user as away. This is fairly easy to spoof. You can use a bot or script to randomly move the mouse and type messages into an email that will pass as activity.

Revoir Jr. instructed the potential jurors that the defendant has the right to a fair trial regardless of what they may have seen, heard, or read. &#8220;If you tell me that you cannot put certain matters aside and render a fair verdict, you will be excused,&#8221; said Revoir.

&#8220;I heard so many things on TV, I don&#8217;t think I could give a fair verdict,&#8221; said one potential jurror.

&#8220;I&#8217;ve heard things, I&#8217;ve seen things on the news, I have read things. I have my opinion,&#8221; said another.

Both were excused, along with dozens more.
