He said he also ruled out the possibility she died as the result of hypothermia and determined she had been dead before the body was dumped at the location where it was found.

Stoppacher said the condition of the corpse was consistent with the decomposing remains of a person who had been exposed for that length of time, a little more than two months. Because the body had to thaw for the testing to be conducted, the post-mortem examination was conducted in Syracuse on Feb. 27, 2013, Stoppacher said.

Three days later, Powell said that he invited Ganesh Ramsaran to a more sweeping interview at the sheriff’s department, a half-hour session that the detective said he taped unbeknownst to Ramsaran. Questioned by Garcia, Powell said he did not consider Ramsaran a suspect at that time.

During the interview, according to the audio recording that was admitted into evidence, Powell advised Ramsaran that there were people in the community who had become aware of the affair he was having with Eileen Sayles, his wife’s friend.

Powell said he managed to unlock Jennifer Ramsaran’s cell phone, after the husband said he recovered it from a creek bed in Plymouth the day after reporting his wife missing.

Powell said he then sent messages from an application in the phone to people who had been communicating with her when she played online games, including a man named Robert Houston, who lives in England.

He said the last message recorded by the application had been received at about 8:15 a.m. on Dec. 11, 2012. It was from Houston, and said, “Where did you go? You left the game,” Powell testified.

On one day alone, the detective said, Ramsaran dialed her number 131 times. The records also showed that Sayles rarely took the calls, fielding just 104 of them over the entire time, Powell said.

During the interview, Ramsaran told the detective that he drove his children to school at about 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 11, 2011, and shortly after he arrived back at the house he observed his wife eating yogurt and cereal. He made no mention of her playing an online game, according to the audio recording.

Garcia pointedly asked the detective several times why he did not have extensive notes on other individuals who had been playing online games with Jennifer Ramsaran. He has argued the investigation was marked by sloppy police work and tunnel vision, with investigators doing little to pursue any leads that did not focus on Ganesh Ramsaran.

Upon spotting the corpse off the road in Pharsalia, Hayner called his daughter, Deputy Kelly Hayner. The deputy testified she was the first police officer to arrive at the scene where the body was found. She said her father wasn’t sure if it was a human corpse, and so he called her. Deputy Hayner said she recognized the body as that of a woman and then called her supervisor at the sheriff’s department.

Whether Ganesh Ramsaran takes the stand in his own defense is still unknown, Garcia told The Daily Star. The lawyer said his client is eager to testify on his own behalf. However, that decision will be made at the appropriate time in the trial, Garcia said

You know, that makes me think GR was spying on Jennifer online. That he did indeed find underwear, that Jennifer herself bought in NY - but GR said it was bought for her, because he'd been spying and knew the money had come from her friend in England?

I think Garcia is well aware GR would be his own worst enemy on the witness stand.
