Prosecution calls final witness in Ramsaran murder trial

Prosecutors called their last witness and defense began cross examination of prosecution's final witness Tuesday in the murder trial of Ganesh "Remy" Ramsaran.

The lead investigator for the case Lieutenant Richard Cobb sat on the stand all day.

Prosecution finished playing the audio recording from a police interview with Remy in March of 2013.

In the interview, Remy said Jenn stopped cooking, cleaning and tucking the kids into bed.

He told investigators he would never hurt his wife and spoke about various weight management and diet pills Jennifer was taking.

Prosecution Rests at Ramsaran Trial

The last witness who took the stand Tuesday for the prosecution was Lieutenant Richard Cobb from the Chenango County Sheriff's Office.

Jury heard an audio tape from March 22nd, 2013 when the lieutenant visited Ramsaran's house seeking more evidence on the case.

When Cobb asked Remy if Jennifer had been taking drugs, he said she was taking weight loss and vitamin pills that he claimed changed her personality.

He also kept stating to the lieutenant that he would never hurt his wife in any matter.

The defense is expected to present its case Wednesday in the murder trial of Ganesh "Remy" Ramsaran.

The Chenango County man is accused of killing his wife Jennifer. He reported her missing back in December 2012, and told investigators that he had tried to use the "find my iPhone" app to locate her. But in court Tuesday, investigators testified that there was no evidence showing this attempt.

The jury also heard audio of phone conversations between Ramsaran and his mistress while he was in jail.

Inconsistencies noted in Ramsaran’s statements

The lead investigator in the Ganesh Ramsaran noted their were several incongruities in Ramsaran’s voluntary statements to police, Tuesday in Chenango County Court.

As the final witness for the prosecution, Lieutenant Richard Cobb testified in court Tuesday to having essentially been in control of the case investigated by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office in 2012 and 2013, barring a brief time when former Chenango County Undersheriff James Lloyd was still employed by the department.

Remy Ramsaran takes the stand in his own murder trial

Wednesday, Remy verbally waived his right to testify, but he changed his mind and took the stand on Thursday.

"Extremely, I'm here fighting for my life, man!" Remy said after being asked if he was nervous.

Defense Attorney Gilberto Garcia questioned Remy all day long, and got aggravated with his client on several occasions.

"Listen to my questions," Garcia said to Remy. "I'm getting frustrated!"

Remy continuously rambled on after answering a question, causing prosecution to repeatedly object. He was reminded by Judge Frank Revoir to be responsive and relevant with his answers.

Ramsaran takes the stand

There was a surprise twist in the Ganesh Ramsaran murder trial in Chenango County Court Thursday.

When jurors showed up they believed they would hear closing arguments. Instead Ramsaran took the stand in his own defense.

District Attorney Joe McBride was not pleased with some of his actions. He objected roughly 30 times to his testimony.

The major issue for McBride was when Ramsaran was asked a question he took liberties to add in details rather than just answer the question directly, like he should have.

He did end up personalilzing himself and his family through some of his responses.

Remy Ramsaran Takes Stand in own Defense

"Typical", "routine" and "standard" are all words Remy Ramsaran used to described the morning of December 11th 2012, the last time he says he saw his wife Jennifer before her disappearance.

Thursday Remy testified that he did go for a run on the morning that Jennifer disappeared but that he cannot remember the exact route he took because of the stress of the following days. This contradicts prior statements that Remy has given police.

Another contradiction came when Ramsaran first testified he did not search for Jennifer's van or body from December 11th to 16th. However, seconds after saying that he referred to searching for the van while talking about his activities on December 13th.

Both sides rest in Ramsaran murder trial

The prosecution and the defense rested their cases Monday after the cross examination of Ganesh Remy Ramsaran was complete.

It was an extremely intense day with lots of shouting from all sides and dozens of objections.

Judge Frank Revoir raised his voice at Ramsaran several times, at one point telling him to stop giving "smart aleck" responses.

Ramsaran has described the morning his wife went missing in extreme detail several times to police and in testimony, but he revealed a detail for the first time Monday.

Ramsaran admitted his wife was playing her online game the morning she disappeared. Ramsaran said she was playing it at the kitchen table while she was eating breakfast.

Ramsaran found guilty of 2nd degree murder

Ganesh Ramsaran was found guilty of 2nd degree murder in the death of his wife.

Closing arguments were made in the Ganesh Ramsaran murder trial Tuesday. He is accused of killing his wife in December of 2012 at the couple's home in New Berlin, so he could ultimately be with his mistress.

Defense attorney Gilbert Garcia went first. He told jurors that the prosecution didn't have a complete case.

Garcia focused on the timeline presented by District Attorney Joe McBride and said that suspicion is not enough for jurors to convict.

Garcia said that basically it may not have been moral for Ramsaran to have an affair with his wife's best friend, but it also doesn't make him a murderer.

Juror: Ramsaran alibi didn't hold up

According to one of those jurors, Pastor Mitch Mullenax of the Common Grounds Baptist Fellowship in Beaver Meadow, who spoke exclusively to The Daily Star on Wednesday, inconsistencies in the accounts Ramsaran provided to police regarding his wife’s disappearance on Dec. 11, 2012, emerged as key factors in the jury’s rejection of the defendant’s testimony.

Ramsaran charged with trying to bribe his way out of prison

Convicted killer Ganesh "Remy" Ramsaran allegedly offered a $100,000 bribe to a Chenango County corrections officer in an attempt to escape from the county jail, the Chenango Sheriff's Department reported tonight.

Ramsaran, 39, is slated to be sentenced to prison on Dec. 1 in connection with his conviction on a charge of second-degree murder, arising from the Dec. 11, 2012 killing of his wife, Jennifer Renz Ramsaran, 36.

The sheriff's department said Ganesh Ramsaran, a former program manager for IBM, was arrested on the second-degree bribery charge at 4:45 p.m. today. He was arraigned in Norwich town court, and sent back to the county jail for lack of $1 million cash bail or $2.5 milliion property bond.

Murder trial left region shocked

“The husband always does it.”

When he typed those words the night of Feb. 23, 2013, while engaging in a flirtatious exchange of Facebook instant messages with a woman he had never met, there is no indication that Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran, then of South New Berlin, knew they could spring back at him in a court of law in 2014.

The online conversation had taken place a little more than two months after Remy Ramsaran reported to police that his 36-year-old wife, Jennifer, had mysteriously vanished after going Christmas shopping in December 2012.

A transcript of that Facebook conversation surfaced as prosecution evidence in the Chenango County Courthouse in September. Taking the stand in his own defense, Ramsaran, by now indicted on a charge of intentional murder, was grilled by District Attorney Joseph McBride, about his insistence that he had nothing to do with the violent death of his wife, the mother of the couple’s three children.

New trial ordered :( (just updating our media thread I know this was a while ago)

http://cnycentral.com/news/local/co...ers-new-trial-for-wifes-2012-death-07-14-2016

Ganesh "Remy" Ramsaran, the man serving 25 years to life in prison for his wife's 2012 murder, will have a new trial after a state appeals court found his defense dropped the ball enough the first time to warrant a re-do.

The state Appellate Division's Third Department cited legal errors during Ramsaran's trial in its decision Thursday. The appeals court says Ramsaran's counsel failed to object to "inaccurate and misleading" descriptions of DNA evidence and testimony by the prosecution in Chenango County Court, and further presented a "confusing and inept" final argument to jurors at the end of the trial
