I know we know she was texting....but it seems so odd. If she was a serious runner wouldn't she be so focused on her run she wouldn't stop and text?

In the VM thread we had a whole conversation about how if your a runner you know never to stop and talk to another runner on a run because of how focused they are and in breaks their stride and focus etc.

So it just seems weird that someone who took running seriousness enough to be doing it everyday would even bother to check there phone in the middle of a run.

Just seems really bizarre to me.
Actually, a lot of people who run every day, do it simply for exercise and aren't serious runners. Serious runners train for races, often wear a Garmin or similar device, and keep track of their times. I've been both. When just running purely for exercise, I often looked at my texts and social media. Especially when I was in my earlier 20s,and wanted to keep up with sm at all times. Haha!

I don't know for sure that she wasn't a serious runner, but I wanted to offer that perspective.

It just seems like running, particularly running on a trail or path, it seems like a really bad idea to be running with your head down looking at a phone rather then at the ground in front of you. Just seems like your asking to trip and fall over a root or what not. Doesn't seem like the safest thing to be doing.

Oh, absolutely! But people do unsafe things all the time. Personally, I wouldn't have run there alone. I'm not blaming her at ALL, just saying that different people are comfortable with different things.

Didn't have texting when my gal and I would run... big part of running in the woods is to enjoy the trees and surroundings while really watching the ground. Even if you ran the trail the day before, can never tell if an animal has dug a hole, or if there's who knows what...

Why or when Karina stopped to communicate seems less promising as an avenue of consideration or speculation, to me, then where and whom she would have come in contact with, and how is it possible that this person could have remained unseen?

Is that possible in the middle of the day that easily? I don't think so, doesn't seem like dumb luck. This spot doesn't seem random, the timing doesn't seem random, or how well the perp got away doesn't seem random. The only thing that seems possibly random is that Karina was in the right place at just the right time for the perp to get away.

Could this perp have instigated some other incident in that area to warrant an LE reaction, as he was planning this incident, or just been around there and familiar with how to get away unseen, as a result of another previous incident?

Have there been other recent searches for perps or any other kind of incidents in that area prior to Karina's murder that would have warranted an LE search of the Spring Creek trails?

Come to think of it, maybe what LE has is a DNA match with the Marcotte case...that may explain the quiet atmosphere in NY and Mass....maybe the Pennsylvania case is related :( I know it is far fetched and I absolutely didn't believe they were linked in the beginning.

Hmm. But wouldn't LE release that info to alert people that there is a serial killer out there.

I'm thinking the person who killed KV knew the park. Knew how to avoid surveillance and his way in and out with less peopld seeing him. A new person to the park would not know it was a park that was less frequent.

I absolutely agree it was someone who knew the park.

"A Father's Anguish.
Everyday Karina Vetrano's father walks the path where his daughter was murdered. Philip scours for any clues that could lead to catching the killer. Chasing News found him hunting for evidence and had an impromptu interview with him in the weeds where she was killed."

Sidenote: there is an interesting comment in the comment section by initials N.M. with a photo. Not sure why that person posted the photo, but interesting.....

Thank you, again, Lauranyc83, for sharing Fox 5 NY's Chasing News segment with Mr. Vetrano and his unwavering calm commitment. You're amazing with all that you catch and share. Much appreciated.

True enough, a lot of people do look like a lot people, but there are some very specific aspects to the sketch. LE took days, according to MSM, to hone down on the sketches accuracy by checking with various people who saw this potential witness. One would hope the image would click for the numerous people who may have seen the sketch guy, but most of all, one hopes they know to, have the will to and take the time to call. LE can figure out how to deal with it, it seems to me.

As was done above, the rules allow us to guide other members to a particular comment of interest.

However, discussion of the comment is NOT allowed, nor is any discussion about sleuthing someone who has not been named a suspect or POI. The fact that someone happens to resemble a sketch of the possible perp is not evidence of a crime or any wrongdoing. I am sure LE is aware of this and has been monitoring SM closely, so IF a connection can be made, it will eventually come to light and can be discussed at that time.

I only base this off my personal experience and experience of other young women I have run with, but the way I run is usually like this: if I am going on a "jog"/run, I will make a playlist beforehand and put it on and keep running and won't stop (unless stretching is necessary, but usually at the beginning). However, when I'm running intervals for speed, I stop and check my phone between every single one. Which may be something to think about. May just be common in my training group, though. Was she training for anything?

Plus, if you're running intervals, someone could be observing you without you even noticing them and you're conveniently in the same spot for your workout, making you an easier target versus a "moving, unpredictable" target. You can go faster with more impact on grass if you have some sort of running leg injury. The run over there from home can potentially be a "warm-up jog" where you stretch after and then proceed to do your workout. I guess only her father would know how she worked out, though. Maybe he will release some helpful info to the public soon because there hasn't been much of anything.

Also, I think this perp was far from a "mastermind." He was very likely familiar with the park. But everyone notices cameras and whatnot if they come to a place often enough. Same with trees. You'd probably be able to recall a tree and it's easy to do so if you're familiar. But I somehow don't buy that he walked all around every area outside of his normal interests of being at the park to plan his getaway. I think the outskirts are where he either got extremely lucky or is caught on footage they haven't zero-ed in on yet. Understandably so, if the latter, because no physical description / no witnesses have come forward.

I just found this. Apparently the pant puller guy from Brooklyn..(he was one of the sketched guys that was being compared to Karina Vertanos sketch guy)was arrested yesterday in Brooklyn... He had a Rap Sheet for sex crimes dating back to 2005. So I guess he is not a match for the Karina sketch guy

Good to know!

There still is the pantpuller who attacked a woman on the subway in Manhattan who looks a lot like the sketch in Karina's case.

I don't see any resemblance btw the two.

For those who don't remember, here are the two sketches:

Morningside Heights (Manhattan) subway incident:
https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20...rape-woman-morningside-heights-subway-station

Sketch in Karina's case (not named suspect, but someone LE wants to speak with):
http://www.amny.com/news/karina-vetrano-case-nypd-releases-sketch-of-possible-witness-1.12247253

The subway attack in Manhattan happened on a subway line that does go to Howard Beach.

Are they connected? WE DON'T KNOW, of course. That's the question some of us (not all of us) wonder.
