Nancy said they were looking through the database and analyzing if there are any family members in the system and then they will contact them to further investigate. A cousin, brother, uncle, sister etc could have commited a crime and this may lead to the killer. I'm hoping.

One of the most high profile U.S cases that I can think of in which familial DNA testing was used to capture a suspect is in the "Grim Sleeper" case. A DNA sample from his incarcerated son was taken and showed similar DNA markers between the son and the DNA profile of the suspect in the "grim sleeper" murders. This led to them identifying his father, Lonnie Franklin Jr, as a likely suspect. It's hard to hear on the video, but it sounded like they had at least 25 calls about the guy in the sketch, I'm thinking the Utility worker was the only one who had close up look to him?

I also notice how they said they checked video surveillance from homes only around part of the park and not around the whole perimeter. I'm hoping Vetro checked their cameras as well and any place near Crossbay Blvd, because the perp could of exit out that way as well. Vetro is right across the street from the end of the park. Also if you go under the Crossbay Bridge to the other side you would come out into Vetro's parking lot...

It was said that he saw him along the bike path of the Belt Parkway. It runs parallel to the parkway and Spring Creek Park.

Hi everyone, I just recently joined the site but I've been following this post. I don't live in H.B. but my cousin used to live there and still has a business there so Im familiar with area. Although not with the inside of the park. Anyway after watching the video, did anyone else notice that she turned her head to the left almost as if someone either called her name or there was something going on?

Yes, same here. I get the impression that Karina's attention is drawn to an area underneath the trees three times. As she approaches, it's a broad focus, it seems then the other times it's more precise, which led me to look at a darkened area under the trees. At first, it just seemed like light reflecting through leaves, but it doesn't seem to be that. It looks like light reflecting off something like glass and it moves not like the way the other light moves in the video, and it just happens to move when Karina is no longer looking in that direction. Saw it in the awesome report above, which has so much information.

Karina is even more beautiful while she runs and seems stronger too, than before.

I watch the video over and over, and took time away and it was there again. I see others may have the same impression? I'm still catching up to you amazing sleuthers, but wanted to say...

This is what I initially thought as well. But now that I've replayed it a few times she looks three times into the weeds. I thought she was looking back since she would have to eventually move over to her left to enter the path of the park. I'm not sure now. I can't see anything in the weeds, however.

I think she's looking for cars and getting ready to move to the left. She doesn't slow her stride as she looks, but seems like it's part of a routine to cross over the street there. (And if she's wearing earbuds, what could she hear except something loud?)

True, I thought of that too, but it seems like she hears something and looks, then she focuses in that area twice, than whatever that light thing is has that strange side to side movement as she moves past. I'll try to screencap as best I can, but it'll take some time. Do you think it is anything? If you play it @.25 speed, that is.

I just had a chance to watch the Crime Watch video. Detective Boyce pointed out that her socks were wet when found. There was a puddle nearby so he believes she was dragged through the puddle off the path.

Another interesting thing he said was that contrary to previous reports, there was no DNA evidence found at the scene to show that the would be rapist completed his sexual assault. So this is probably why the mother calls him "dickless" and "impotent"

I am wondering if he didn't intend to kill and when realizing he did, he fleed, without completing it. Ugh.

Could that possibly explain why the perp threw her sneaker so far, the long throw Chief Detective Robert Boyce points out?

Going back to the fact that her socks were wet when found and there being a puddle nearby, if Karina's feet were wet, then I'm pretty sure the killers was as well. I'm hoping this will make someones memory come back of that night and possibly seeing someone with wet shoes.

I remember seeing a photo on media with the puddle. It was a large puddle, not small at all.

So maybe the perp had his feet wet and he may have to gotten them even wetter getting away?

A man was arrested on Long Island two years ago. His DNA was put into the database. What popped up was a close match to a serial killer that was wanted. It was his brother. They arrested John Bittrolff of Manorville. Twenty year old case. No way to know if hes the killer who dumped bodies on Ocean Pkwy near Jones Beach.

You may be right. Theres an area that is deliberately blurred out in the youtube video.

i know it's all over the news but it you find and look at the clip that they keep playing you will see her look to left twice. Then if you look it that direction to me it looks like someone/thing is moving behind the brush

Yes, good work! Something strange about where she is looking, right before she goes past the parked car across from her. Notice where she is looking has been blurred out - why? Is it someone who got out of the parked car and is in the weeds - and that is what she sees? It's a definite stare she is giving IMO..

still looking over, and the thing I noticed was that for a couple of steps as she looked over her shoulders kind of set back.



Then after her gaze there ends, Karina leans into her run again, to my eye at least.

I think this may have captured a moment of Karina being cautious or something caught her attention that she may have been trying to figure out.

I honestly don't think so. I watched the clip from the news and nothing was blurred out. To me it's as if someone either called her name or something distracted her to cause her to look.
