This case happened close to me and needs solving. Laura Ann Parker was 14 years old when she disappeared from Lindenhurst High School in Lindenhurst, Suffolk County, New York on May 23rd 1984. Most agencies will claim Laura disappeared after school or that she didn’t make it to softball practice. She apparently cut classes on the day she disappeared and even asked her best friend to come with her but she refused. Laura never returned home that night and was never seen again.

The next day, Laura’s parents reported her missing after waiting up for her all night. The police and FBI became involved at first and searched a week for her. However, the FBI and police decided that Laura was a runaway because several students from her school said they had seen her in the area after being reported missing. She reportedly told them she did not intend on returning home. Other people reported seeing her in Manhattan and other places in NY during the summer of 1984.

Due to this, the police listed her as a runaway and discontinued active search efforts for Laura. Since the sightings were reported, the FBI deemed Laura’s case was not a kidnapping and that she voluntarily left. This left her parents to do most of the searching themselves with them offering reward money to anyone who knew where their daughter was.

On September 10th 1984, three young boys discovered Laura’s skeletal remains in a wooded area off North Monroe Street, just a few blocks away from Lindenhurst High School. Laura’s remains had been placed in an area known as the “Hut.” The hut was a 4 feet deep 11 foot wide hole that was considered a local hangout spot for kids and teenagers. A carpet was placed over Laura’s body.

Police later determined Laura’s identity through dental records and found she was still wearing the same clothing she had been wearing when she was last seen in May. It’s believed that Laura died on the same day she disappeared and that she never left Lindenhurst at all. However, no cause of death could be determined. It’s very likely Laura might’ve known who killed her because the area she was found in is only really known to locals. No one has ever been arrested or charged with her murder.

Laura’s parents adopted her when she was an infant and raised her to be a very kind and loving girl. I’ve seen many people commenting nothing but good things about Laura from when she was still alive and she’s greatly missed. Her parents searched for Laura for months and never gave up hope of finding her safe. After her remains were found, they were devastated and hoped to find her killer. That still hasn’t happened and Laura deserves justice.

So she asked her friend to come with her, yet she allegedly did not plan to return home? Which should have been more accurate? The friend she actually spoke to or the ones who “heard her say”? If I were to theorize based solely on this post and what I have read thus far, my guess (and I emphasize guess) would be someone she may have known or had come to know coerced her into leaving school that day to meet up. She asked her friend to go with, because although young and naive, she had a bit of neck hair up and would have wanted someone to go with her.

If I were to start looking, I would try to find someone innocuous who may have been familiar, but not a friend, someone who didn’t stand out but would seem trustworthy on the surface. But someone she was a tiny bit afraid of and didn’t tell her friend about. Maybe even someone the friend knew but didn’t connect. But that is just my spidey senses.

Going to have to look a bit deeper,
