I don't know if Cranky has posted her Case Album lately, but, I found it looking for something else, and it is always useful (thanks Cranky!).

403 Media uploads of this case, so far.

I am late to the discussion, but have been following the story in the news. I will have to go back and read here, because it looks like you all have uncovered all kinds of things I hadn't heard!

Today's Post article is the first time I've read the name of the homeowner whose house Shannan Gilbert disappeared from. They way they describe it--he called her driver at 5AM to pick her up because she wouldn't leave--and the driver came in, and found her "delirious," sounds like the homeowner really didn't "disappear" her. BUT, a cop who heard the 911 call could have. (There's another case in the news in NYC now, where a responding cop raped a drunk girl.)

This was also the first article I've read conclusively linking the Long Island murders to the Atlantic City murders! (But maybe I'm just behind.)

I'm pretty convinced that Shannan was a victim of the same killer. So I agree with the Daily News article that there are probably another four women (including her) left to be found.

Another thought about a member of LE being involved... If the doctor, or someone posing as the doctor, called Shannon's Mom the day after they reported her missing, this was before the general public would have known about it. The only way the doctor would have 'known' Shannon had been reported missing would have been if he was told by LE - or was already working for LE. Right??

The four bodies recovered most recently appear to be older. It is believed that the first murder could have taken place in 2007.

Suffolk Chief of Detective Dominick Varrone said that the first four bodies found in December were buried in a quarter mile area, just 50 feet from the side of the Ocean Parkway and 500 feet apart. The latest four bodies were buried some distance away, much deeper and in thorny bushes.

Sounds like the SK is getting more confident if the recent bodies are older and hidden better. With any luck maybe they will find some forensics on the ground.

Who would be that precise and exacting with measurement in placing the bodies?

A surveyor? Engineer? Someone marking off boundaries for home construction or other construction?

LE is looking at people who would have reason to be at the beach area routinely in their work.

I questioned before: people plowing sand.

There are workers who routinely clean up and grade or plow sand on beaches.

What did the client do for employment?

Some drifter who used to be with the Corps. of Engineers?

I have a question. Were there markers at the road indicating every 500 ft. of beach for some reason, before the bodies were found?

I DO like the way you think!! :rocker:

I have a question perhaps someone will know the answer to.

Was CL a trend for hiring escorts in 2006 when the AC bodies were
found? I was just thinking that could be why the AC Victims were acquired on the street as opposed to CL escorts. Just a thought.

If he's dumping them in 4s then is he keeping all the bodies together to dump them at the same time? I just think he is arrogant, wanted the bodies to be found and wants to be known for a particular style.

or maybe a neighbor who knew there was a dr in his neighborhood and wanted to throw everyone off because he messed up with shannan

The AC women were all working the seedy "strip" area and likely met their killer on the streets. It sounds as though these girls (LI) worked by appointment. I really don't think it is the same killer. The women who were interviewed for the Dateline/48 Hours special on the AC killings a few years ago indicated that they found their clients by just standing on the corner, and probably all encountered the same local man, possibly the man the police have looked at as a potential suspect.

Of course it could be the same person(s) if he decided to change his MO of obtaining his victims, but he would probably need more resources than were needed in the AC killings, i.e. vehicle, phone, maybe a computer. Just seems different to me.

BBM: Hi concentric! I don't believe they have workers routinely doing clean up and grade or plow sand on these beaches. This is not that kind of place. This is a natural preserve, which is left undisturbed as a park. They only dredge the sand at the mouth of the inlets if they get silted up, but this has to be done at very specific times of year, which would normally be over the winter when the fish aren't spawning. The dredge spoil is then put where they are told to put it on beaches which need replenishment. The county doesn't own many dredges and the work is dangerous, so dredging would only take place every few years, otherwise the sand on the beaches would be left undisturbed, even if huge amounts were washed away in a storm. In the Spring, they may rope off areas of the beach to stop people disturbing breeding grounds for piping plover, which is protected species. They would, with permission, be allowed to plant indigenous beach grasses to shore up the coastline, which I believe is the project for which I posted a link earlier on the community association website. They may also, with a permit, be allowed to trim back the phragmites, which are now viewed as an invasive species, but only to a certain height. It's all very, very natural, undisturbed, hence the brambles and poison ivy problems LE is having.

The client owns a liquor store on the main part of the Island.

I was googling around this morning and found an old 48 hours episode on the AC murders. Transcript, no link to the video. Interestingly, there is composite sketch at the below link. I thought I would post it here in case someone is interested. I also realized in refreshing my memory that the girls were missing shoes. I had it wrong that they were naked except for socks. Sorry about that. Too much time passed and too many cases followed. I apologize if someone has already posted this info. Also FWIW, there is an overhead shot of the bodies laying in the ditch somewhere on the net. You can get a good idea of the layout. Almost like morse code or something. I will see if I can hunt that pic down today.

It seems different to me too, cluciano. That's why I wondered if CL was a fad for adult services in 2006 like it is today.

You definitely need to go back and read up. There's a lot more to this. You can't really speculate from one article. (I don't mean that in a rude way! I'm just saying...!)

The thanks button just wouldn't do SuziQ. Thanks for the link.

IIRC the Daytona victims were wearing socks, IIRC, but I could be wrong.

Ok I was thinking over one of the links that was posted for one of the AC victims and I remembered that her mother had died after being on the list for a heart transplant list so I thought that was interesting being that there might be a question about the girls knowing the suspect and about a doctor and LE saying there was an AC connection.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07035/759320-85.stm#ixzz1IwsWeTkW

So reading this article over the reoccuring "friend" theme stands out along with the different discription of her attitude ,also interesting that her names also starts with an M like 3 of the woman who were found In dec.

It wasn't as big as it is now, but it was definitely available and growing in popularity.

Good question. IDK.

Do you think that is why the girls in AC were facing east???

I thought this Crime Map might be useful for looking at crime on Long Island.

It is interactive, here is the version of all the homicides on Long Island for the last year. There were 9 Homicides on LI, during the last year, quite clustered, geographically, actually.

You can select your catergories according to crime (homicides, assault, thefts etc.)

There is a description of each incident in detail, located below.

http://longisland.newsday.com/newsday/crime/

ETA: The link is not saving my chosen setting of "homicide" only. Simply deselect all the other categories, and change the date range to "year". This will show you the homicides.
Oh, thanks for this! Doing a date search for homicide... back to April 2007, I noticed that the majority of homicides appeared to be hit and runs, with a couple shootings. This one however stood out to me. The date of the incident was July 10, 2010. So, that is fairly recent. However, location wise, and in light of the age disparity, I am wondering, is this another "one that got away?" I could be way off of course. However, I hope LE is also revisiting outcall cases of alleged assault, attempted homicide, etcetera. Just sayin...

Craigslist Ripper- You know press is going to run with the New York times article.
Well, if they're gonna go for sensationalism, it seems "Craigslist Strangler" would be more accurate. That is, assuming the guy is also responsible for the AC murders.
