The day after Shannan's disappearance her mother says she got a phone from Dr Hackett... saying he had a halfway house and Shannan was there. He was trying to help her.

Reporter: So you didn't tell them that you had her in your house, that you were....

Hackett: "Of course not, that's ridiculous." *This reminded of Josh Powell, the way he said it.*

Reporter: "That man is Peter Hackett... a former head of Suffolk County Emergency Medical Services and a Former Police Surgeon who lives near where Gilbert was last seen. Hackett says he never even met Shannan Gilbert. But while he says Police have interviewed him about the case 2 or 3 times, he would not say what about. And as for the grisly discoveries miles from his home..."

Tomorrow Suffolk County divers intend to continue the search underwater in Hemlock Cove...

As police sources tell ABC news they are considering whether to clear cut some underbrush along Ocean Parkway to expose more potential remains.

Police have refused to characterize any conversations they have had with anyone in this case.


I cannot be impartial about this Dr's demeanor in this interview...

When I saw him for a split second I got sick to my stomach and thought he was my Uncle...

If I get told one day my Uncle is a serial killer I will not be the least bit surprised.

So my opinion was tainted instantly... I don't like the guy. That doesn't mean he's guilty of anything. He just creeps me out.

I can't get a good screenshot of those pictures on the wall, sorry -- inadequate screen resolution. Maybe somebody with a better screen can grab it. I *think* they're reproduction art prints -- one looks like it could be a Sargent painting that's at the National Gallery.

I had the sound off while I was working on it, and I was rather surprised by the guy's body language and facial expressions. He looked rather happy, I thought, like he was talking about a church social or something.

Scandi, the ABC website originally said "Person of Interest Interviewed" at the top but when I reloaded it, the headline changed to "Search for LI Serial killer Continues"... it looks like they realized their ?mistake? and changed it.

Looks like to me that somebody leaked to ABC that Hackett is a POI. I saw that headline, too, and when I went back it was scrubbed.

I think Hackett may be our man. JMHO, of course.

Although police are keeping hush hush about what was videotaped the night Gilbert went missing a year ago, there are four security cameras attached to a building outside the Oak Beach private community where authorities say she was last seen running and screaming for help.

Although the videotapes are taped over every 24 hours, the videos are also stored on a hard drive.

Now, a family member of Gilbert's tells WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall that they received a call from a doctor who lives in this community. The doctor told them that Shannan was incoherent, so he took her in to his home rehab to help her and, the next day, a driver came and picked her up.

The doctor, Peter Hackett, said that he did speak to the police and he talked about the search for human remains along Ocean Parkway. "This is important that this is done because these people need closure and we need to find this girl if she's alive," said Dr. Hackett.

Hi, Pinkhammer, and thanks for the transcript. The information about the stored video from the gated community is especially important. Like others here, I tend to doubt that Hackett is the culprit because making such a call would be be tantamount to throwing yourself into suspicion. Instead, I think that it fits the MO of a manipulative serial killer who uses phone calls to confuse and complicate.

To show badly memory sometimes work, I'll put my head on the chopping block: I somehow heard Dr. Hackett say that he had never met Shannan's mother. In the transcript is correct (and it seems to have been done carefully), he was talking about Shannan.

That's not typical behavior of a serial killer because more often than not they have no close personal ties to their victims. Nor do they care if the bodies are found. It's possible Shannon's disappearance is unrelated to the rest.

I'm starting to think Shannan's disappearance is separate from the rest too. Just a feeling right now. I think the Dr looked real shaky, rattled for sure. I would think a SK would have more charisma than he did.

Very interesting that Dr. Hackett was a police surgeon and head of emergency medical services since many reports have been saying 2 of the people police are watching have past connections with LE. Guess he is one of the two people. I still don't think he was involved but who knows anymore.

What the heck is a "police surgeon," anyway? First time I've ever heard of that job.

A thought: (Maybe a bit out there, but worth a shot) The man in the picture immediately struck me as the same in the AC sketch. Being that this man is a member of the OB CA, it is quite possible that access to burlap sacks will be readily available, further, the CA web page also discusses their work with improving the beaches, grounds, and communities, and mentions savethebeaches as link. I believe someone asked about the SK potentially being a member of an orginzation like savethebeaches or something. I certainly, certainly do not want throw any accusation at this person, but it seems someone involved in the CA would know the Dr., have access to tools, (burlap sacks), would know the beaches and area very very well, and would know many local businesses and people

Well, that's interesting... Iow why LE interviewed him multiple times? After all, it seems phone records could have easily ruled the guy out, thereby making it unnecessary to talk with him "two or three times." Otoh, they may simply be speaking with him to gather info to compare to whatever the caller told SG's mother.

I can imagine why they would interview this Dr. several times. I'm sure they questioned if he had any enemies or conflicts with a neighbor or even a patient in the past. Perhaps he had a one time disagreement with a neighbor over a parking space and there has been some sort of contention between the two ever since. I believe the sk is obsessive-compulsive and has some animosity towards the doctor. I wasn't always sure that Shannon fell victim to the sk until it was revealed about the call from the doctor and the doctor stating that he didn't call. So now we are sure that the sk was in that neighborhood. Being that he is a former LE surgeon maybe an officer was injured in some way, was operated on and didn't fully recover after surgery and for whatever reason wasn't allowed back on the job. Maybe this individual was seeking to go out on disablity and needed the Doctor to state something specific so that he could collect money and the doctor refused, thus, the individual is no longer LE and not collecting monies he deems that he deserves.

There is a connection between the Doctor and the sk and it may be a very subtle connection--nothing that is quite noticeable or shouldn't be a mountain made out of a mole hill.

So in essence, it could be a former or current disgruntled EMS employee of which the doctor supervises, a neighbor who felt slighted by the doctor, or a former or current LE individual who wasn't able to go out on full disability and still works or quit or terminated still without any disability.


But, what do I know?

IMO, I'm thinking now that it was a bunch of elitist perps. who thought nothing of using and murdering a bunch of "." Could be wrong. However, several "lower class" perps may also be involved. Just my thoughts at the moment.

I just heard on a local radio news station (880am) that the Dr said he had treated her, he tried everything he could to help her. That she needed to be in rehab. I'll listen to it again.

What does MSM mean? TIA

Where did he treat her? In NJ? On Long Island in his treatment center (is that his home)? If true that he treated her-she just happened upon an addiction physician in the same gated community where she worked a job the night she disappears. One with a graveyard full of sex workers.
