I'm not seeing the water in any of the area where Gilbert was found. I do see the water across from The Fairway.
??
We just disagree. You will not change everyone's mind.
One thing that is possible is that someone, in a vehicle, just drove out the other end of the community. There is an entrance into Oak Beach, onto the OP, via Oak Beach Road. It is in the opposite direction of where Shannan ran. (In the direction of Sore Thumb.)
Does Anyone Know?:
Is there a gate there and/or any cameras?
I found this exit by accident as a turnaround there for people to go in either direction on the OP caught my eye.
Wow, and you can clearly see water!
Look on the left of the picture. You're much better off if you use Bing and zoom in using Bird's Eye view.
But its clear as day. Those dark spots to the left are obviously water - probably the deepest part of the marsh. The crisscrossing tracks (hard to see in your image) - those are all drainage canals. Now imagine how this must have looked in May after record floods and a nor'easter.
Images attached...
OK, so as it turns out the map on Bing isn't 2010, even though there appears to be a 2010 copyright there.
If you look at the metadata, (using http://mvexel.dev.openstreetmap.org/bing/#)...
...You see that this image in question was taken in March 2011 (I've indicated with arrows on the attached image where the metadata shows Mar 2011).
So this picture is not indicative of how the area looked in 2010. As far as I can tell, there was not nearly the amount of rainfall January-April 2011 as there was in 2010. The March 31 image of severe flooding at Jones Beach is much more indicative of the conditions in 2010.
according to weatherunderground,
there was --
6.25 in rain in Feb 2010
9.41 in rain in March 2010
2.78 in rain April 2010
Gilbert vanished May 1, 2010...one would think that much of the moisture would have receded/evaporated/soaked into the ground.....whatever
I checked the average precipitation rates for March and April for Oak Beach and Gilgo. The combined average total is 8.72. So, in 2010 the combined March and April totals were 12.19". That is about 3.5" more than the average. So, one can figure that those extra inches would take a little while longer than usual to dissipate. But, in the last two weeks of April there was very little precipitation in that entire area. In fact, the month of April was about 65% the average for the month. I was 2.78 versus 4.31.

Because everything was underwater until they drained the area. No way anything stayed in one spot under water. And even with the water drained, they still were digging in the drainage ditches to find some of her belongings.
I'm not going to say what I believe yet because I don't want them to find a way to explain it all away. But, if it comes out that the wig was found and the location of the recovery is announced, then I will state my theories.I wondered what happened to the wig also.
Fluke has a perfectly logical explanation for why her belongings would be at the bottom of one of the drainage ditches, and he is closer to the flame than everybody on this forum, except maybe 1 person.
