I had time to do a little bit more research for three of the missing women Fran suggested:

7/17/08...NY...Brittany Burke, age 21

Possible, but at 5'5" and 150 lbs she's not petite. Also her circumstances of her disappearance don't fit with answering a Craigslist ad. http://www.nampn.org/cases/burke_brittany.html

Not at all the physical type, but the Long Island connection is intriguing as is the Atlantic City connection. If it's true she ran away to escape a dangerous situation, she might have been heading home when she ran into trouble.

omg that guy sounds like a psychopathic loose cannon! the poor woman is lucky she escaped with her life!
i wonder why he would think he could rape her and keep her captive, then let her off at the airport. obviously she's going to identify him.

then they arrest him after he checks himself into a veteran's hospital? maybe he's thinking of an insanity defense? people like that are pure evil and need to be locked up for life.

if he hasn't killed anyone yet, he sure has potential.

I would bet money you are right ghj! I am glad to hear the police are stopping cars today. I would not at all doubt the killer driving by there to relive the fake power he feels from committing murder. Today is also a new moon for what it's worth. Maybe LE is onto some type of pattern.

I pray they catch this guy soon. The summer tourists and holidays are right around the corner.

le is supposed to start the search again tomorrow, monday right? i hope they find more info to catch the killer.

with your moonlight theory do you think he's killing with cycles of the moon due to being ritualistic? or since the lighting is better and he wouldn't need a flashlight?

I have know clue about her naming someone in the 911 call but that is an interesting thought.
After the 911 call in May I would think they would have walked that patch right behind those homes. On the news clips you can see the lights from the homes behind the scene.
If she was running and they knew she was trying to get away it would be logical for them to want to make sure she was not hit and injuried on the highway.

If Shannon knows the murderer and ran from him ,it could be possible Shannon is hiding I doubt it as I believe someone would have heard from her but I wouldnt doubt her a good canidate for a witness protection program if she was aware of these serial killing at the time of her 911 call. Her murderer could very well be someone she had repeated contact with. I pray she is safe. I also do hope they are getting tips to be lead out there so they can get this guy off our streets ,if he isnt in jail already.

there was an article where shannon's family said that in the 911 call she named who she thought was after her. that's likely among the reasons why its not been released. also when i went to look for that article i couldnt' find it. i'm not sure if its been edited again or if i missed it, it was in newsday. it featured them interviewing her sisters. i think they edited the article, and also added a cya about why the response time was horrible that night.

if shannon were in witness protection, that would be great since it would mean she's alive. honestly though, imo i don't see it as the case. her family is hurting as they just want closure and they didn't even know about the 2nd search le was doing until they read about it online.

also if shannon had enough info to be in the witness protection program, she's be a witness, and i would hope that le would have had the guy arrested long before now.

i do agree also that it's possible shannon had prior contact with whoever it was she thought was after her. it's possible the killer has met with these girls before to sort of "feel them out" prior to killing them. almost to build a false "facade of trust". it's possible, yet i don't know... i guess it depends on how confident the killer is with himself...

I couldn't get any further back, except two Eric Clapton Dates for June 2008:

For searches prior to 2006, the sponsor name was Tommy Hilfiger, not Nikon.

The four victims whose remains were found all went missing when the moon was waning towards New moon. (the sky was growing darker each night)

If he held them captive (in a basement, truck) for a time before killing them OR if he needed time to dismember the bodies, I think he is disposing of the bodies on or around the New Moon. The night sky is at it's darkest so there is less chance of being seen. This would also explain why they were spaced by possibly using mile markers because that would be his only point of reference on a dark, moonless night.

All we know for sure is the remains have been described as bones, remains, and one report said the remains were 'unidentifiable'. I dislike discussing dismemberment but that is something that has been discussed here and on Nancy Grace, IIRC. I reckon we'll find out sooner or later, but I wish we knew more about the condition of the remains.

~Summary~

Abduction on waning moon.
Days pass while the moon grows darker.
The killer uses this time to hold his prey captive and or dismemberment.
New Moon is when disposal occurs.

Hope this makes sense. This killer seems methodical so I cannot rule out this possibility in my mind.

This mornings traffic report was saying the Pkwy would be closed do to Police searching. I am wondering what will be found maybe evidence of some sort, worse another person. Again I would hate to be a Family who's missing someone.

I could see how trying to bait someone out on CL would scare someone, I was not thinking anyone should go and meet a person just online stuff. The guys not going to come out of the Computer. The way he hasn't been caught using Web sites, works both ways.
So far we have 4 dead Girls probably 5 who knows how many more, if these girls were in Collage or missing from LI, or uptown NY there would be such a Circus of Press and LE it would be scary. Just because these girls had some problems everything is dealt with in a different way.

WM, I'll be like 15-20 miles away from the search area today but you know if I hear anything locally (or at all), this will be the first place I go to discuss it. I'm praying that some case-breaking evidence turns up today.

For those who can't read Newsday articles, it says they are using fire trucks with ladders today in addition to the ground searchers and dogs in order to scan the area from above. The ladders carry buckets that can go up to 100 feet high. I think this is a great idea, more precise than an aerial search with a helicopter (though they may be using one of those as well). I'm impressed with and grateful to LE for the methodical manner in which they are going about this new search. I hope the weather holds out though. It's supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow :-(

I think the use of the Fire Truck Ladder is ingenious! This very thing occured several months back at the beach access across from my house and I thought the same thing then, GREAT IDEA!!! The dunes and sea oats and marsh grasses are so thick, it is almost impossible terrain to navigate thru easily. (I never did learn what they were looking for although I did walk my dog to the area to investigate and a Police officer told me dogs aren't allowed on the beach. go on home, nothing to see here.)

I am so impressed with LE's determination and dedication. They have had a he!!uva winter for searches and I know they would like to solve this. I am sure the local elected officials would like a resolution soon....before the Easter holiday which is usually the kickoff weekend of the tourist season. That is when the season begins in the beach town where I live, so I base my opinion on my own experience.

I agree. I'm willing to bet that LE is getting good leads from somewhere, maybe even the killer himself.

Speaking of the killer, I was thinking this morning about how someone (forgive me, I forget who) on here mentioned that the SK may even read these boards. I have been thinking that all along and I try to word my posts with that in mind. Maybe I'm paranoid but this is a public forum and the guy obviously knows how to use computers and likely wants to know as much as he can about the case. It's a chilling thought but very realistic.

I also try to word my posts in a sensitive manner in case the families of the victims read this board. I know all of you do that too, that's why I love WS. Some of the family members of the victims were upset over the recent articles that have been popping up about decreasing property value in the Oak Beach area, and justifiably so. I linked to one of those articles only because it mentioned JB's house was up for sale (the house where SG was seen running from).

There is one particular website, you guys probably know the one I'm referring to, that is basically a blog that copies news articles. The author of the site also has her (I believe it's a female) own statements about the cases and has a detailed report about her visit to the gilgo area that I found to be somewhat disturbing. It's one thing to visit the area to get a better idea of the intricacies of the crime scene, it's another to refer to the visit as the most exciting day of your life. Just my opinion.
