Family standing together outside of Michaela Macvilla’s home, after hearing of the devastating news that her body was found. Her uncle calling the past week a “blur”. Candles and a memorial still line the sidewalk. @SPECNewsAlbany

Ok so earlier I said I was from the area of St. Johnsville, I’m actually from Oppenheim 4 miles north. It’s so small that our mailing address was a St. Johnsville zip code. St Johnsville and Dolgeville are the “big towns” that we would go to for fuel and ice cream at Stewart’s. There isn’t even a store or public business in Oppenheim. It’s remote to say the least. To be honest it’s a great place for people to live that want to be left alone. The Adirondack mountains are not far north of here. Michaela did not walk there in the dark by herself. And there are quite a few snowmobile/side by trails that could connect to the power lines.
I’m very sad and disturbed that this has happened to her family and in my beloved area. It’s really is a great place to live.

My heart breaks for her family.

The area itself looks quite remote, and quite peaceful from what I've seen via Google Maps and street views.

And I agree with you - I think it would seem unlikely that she walked that distance by herself, especially at night. From what we know, she was simply heading home from work, which was only a few blocks away.

So sad, so tragic.

Hello, Neighbor! I was following the news all night and this morning, and expected this terrible update. I do have my scenario, but will refrain from commenting further right now:( I do hope the State Police and DA will release prelim autopsy report as soon as they can. This family has certainly been to heck and back, what with the loss of Michaela's sister only a short time ago. God bless and keep them.

Devastating news. Her community is surely mourning along with her family and friends. Heart breaking.

Her poor family. I'm not sure if the other daughter who was recently deceased is her sister or half-sister (obituary lists a mother and a husband and her father and his wife SJ) but it's obvious from their postings these young women were dearly loved.

Hello! I have mine too and am also waiting on SP and DA. I have full confidence in them too. And the fact that a resident was inspecting their property for signs of Michaela makes me proud of the area. I really don’t ever remember a person being found in that manner but I also don’t follow every case. I am very sad that Michaela was found deceased but I am glad for her families sake that she was found.

Police are saying the community is not in danger, so apparently, they have their ideas on the suspect.

I know, but the SP said they can’t rule him in nor out. We all have multiple guns around these parts, maybe an unreasonable amount for some people. This amount of guns make me think trafficking, but what the heck do I know. And unfortunately drugs are rampant here too. I can’t seem to find the news article but in the summer of ‘17 we had a young lady OD that nobody wanted to be involved with, so they took “care” of her. I’m definitely not saying this happened in this case but I am saying that they haven’t ruled this guy as a poi or suspect.

I'm in the process of buying a house 10 miles from there, in Canajoharie, but haven't closed on it yet. The beauty of the area drove me there, and now I'm seeing how this community is standing by the family's side- organizing a meal train, funding, donations of needed items, candlelight vigils, etc. Amazing. Just amazing.

I'm confident they'll advocate for Justice for Michaela starting very soon, and I'll be cheering them on.

I am from St.J this has rocked our small little village. I wish we knew more there are so many rumors and stories, mainly because everyone is speculating, its a small town people talk this is big. I know all the neighboring villages and towns are also dealing with this. To loose a 21 year old in the prime of her life is just so sad. I hope if anyone knows anything they come forward as this family needs peace and closure. The family just lost another tragically she was 24, this should not be happening.
