I met with Detective Chris DiMase today who is just as lovely in person as he is through email/over the phone.
If an MP is in NamUs, their DNA is automatically run against all UIDs. Also, if anyone commits a felony or misdemeanor, their DNA is entered into CODIS and run against UID DNA. So basically all the matches we sent are already being automatically matched or ruled out via NamUs.
The Boston man whose DNA matched 8 alleles to what was found under MVJD's fingernails, was verified by DiMase to be in jail in Boston from February 10, 1988 to March 1988.
Day-Glo Towing employee from Yonkers, NY who was arrested in FL on a similar charge was also ruled out via DNA.
Alejandro (Alex) Henriquez, a serial killer from the Bronx, was ruled out via DNA.
A potential suspect in Rhode Island was also ruled out.
DiMase contacted an FBI profiler to assist on the case.
Because MVPD didn't collect MVJD's DNA (was done by county OCME), they will not release the DNA to Smithsonian for isotope testing, because the 2 isotope labs (I believe one in FL, one in TX) are not NY accredited.
Ancestry.com and other genealogy sites are also not NY accredited so they can't run an ethnicity test.
It is possible that MVJD was trafficked here from a South American country for prostitution purposes.
