Found Alive NY - Rachael Mattice, 24, Wells, 22 June 2016

Didn't they say an item was missing? If so I haven't seen it revealed what that was. I was thinking possibly an ATV.

With regard to an item missing -- I have not seen this reported in MSM at all. In fact, I've only heard rumor that this was posted somewhere on social media. I have not even seen the post and would appreciate anyone who has pointing me in that direction. It could be true and it could be false. I wish LE would hold a press conference and discuss what information they have up to this point.

ETA: I did see it mentioned on that missingpersonsofamerica link but I don't know where they are pulling their info from and how credible it is.

I'm confused as to the state of the "camp" when her father arrived to the place. Is it only rumor that the doors to the car and camp home were both wide open? Because this article says (BBM):
It wasn't until Friday that her father, David, thought anything amiss. He arrived at the campsite Friday afternoon. The car was parked, Abrams said, and nothing was in disarray.
"Nothing to indicate foul play," Abrams said.
If I found the car door and home door wide open I would not think or say "nothing was in disarray" about the scene.

Few leads in Adirondacks search for woman
Sheriff: "There's no good direction to go" in effort to find Rachael Lynn Mattice
By J.p. Lawrence Updated 9:40 pm, Thursday, June 30, 2016

Authorities are stumped in their search for a 24-year-old Johnstown woman at a remote camp in the Adirondacks.

Deputies, forest rangers and State Police using helicopters have combed the mountainous Hamilton County areas where Rachael Lynn Mattice was last seen June 22.

The campsite showed no signs of a struggle, no suicide note and no indication any one other than Mattice had been there, Sheriff Karl G. Abrams said Thursday.

Not very promising, sadly.... also the mention of
"Nothing to indicate foul play," Abrams said.
goes against all that has been said about car door left open, car left running...

Also, considering she's just moved in to campsite -- how many time have we as sleuthers seen it happen that soon after an attractive woman living alone moves into a place that a local predator comes out of woodwork... .

LE needs to bring in more resources to do background checks on all the locals, and go around interviewing, seeing who's nervous, who's been acting strange/suspicious, etc...

Good eyes however, I don't see any indication that this building is on her property. It's been described as a camper up a trail. When she arrived at the bottom of the road she told her mom she was home. This building is at the lower right end of the woods and looks to be a year round home, not a camp. I could be wrong but I think it's a neighbor.

For sure. This was the address that the vigil was at. I have seen the address written as both hernandez and hermandez. When you search hermandez with in m it brings you straight to this location. If you search hernandez with an n then it takes you to the middle of the woods.

Just curious. Does anybody happen to know if any of the places in Wells happen to have camera's mounted to their business or homes? That would surely help.

maybe im just missing the article links but no article i have read has said doors left open, car running, item missing. is this all just facebook rumor or are there articles that discuss these things?

This is such a strange place for an abduction to take place. I'm not saying it's not the case because it definitely sounds like it is. I'm just saying something is fishy about it. This is not the type of place that you stumble upon unless you already know it's there. And how would a would-be abductor know to be waiting in the middle of the woods at 9:15-9:30 on a random Wednesday night? I know people have said there's a chance she was followed but is it really possible Rachael would drive up her driveway and get out of her car knowing she had been followed? I mean I guess they could have had their lights off and perhaps once she turned into her driveway it was already too late - she couldn't turn around. I don't know. Do we think it's possible she recognized the car? It seems like whoever it was left in a hurry...if it is really the case that her car door was left open that is. That move literally screams abduction and you'd think the perp would want to avoid that.

Sorry for my rambling.

Rachael Mattice was last seen around 9:15 p.m. on June 22 in Wells. Her family’s plea for help has brought the community together, and they held a candlelight vigil Wednesday night.

“Rach, I love you dear with all my heart,” Wendy Mattice, Rachael’s mother, said.

Wendy said she had dinner with Rachael at her home in Johnstown on June 22. That was the last time Wendy had any contact with her.

On Friday, Wendy said a family member went to the family’s campsite on Hernandez Road in Wells where Rachael has been living in a camper. But she was nowhere to be found.

Her camp and car door were found wide open with her purse and phone still inside.

Just food for thought: wide open could be hyperbole for "unlocked".

I agree which is why I wish the police would hold a press conference. If camper door and car door were left "wide open" that sounds like a abduction for sure vs "unlocked" I thought I read early on that her car had been left running but battery died (this could be another case I will have to re-read, so last part may be considered rumor or my foggy brain).

The fact that there is no press conference could point to maybe having someone in mind and not wanting to tip their hand? I don't know. Buy when there is no history of an edgy lifestyle behavior by the missing person, I tend to be very worried.

Ok I'm bringing OldSteves post forward because I don't know how to link on my phone.

Read the very bottom news release at this link quoting best friend CN. She states that father found door to car and camp wide open and car on but out of gas.

This was released very early on and I'm guessing LE has since asked family not to speak of it. I'm going with authentic but not verified. So must be considered rumor? Not sure. But I knew I read it.

So Rachael ate dinner at her parent's house the evening of her disappearance then drove the 45 minute drive to Wells stopping at a store along the way? Who saw her in Wells at 9:15 pm? The clerk in the store?

So depressing to read the sheriff's statement. I'm totally frustrated trying to figure out how this beautiful young woman disappeared. Her parents and friends are frantic to find her. Her mother seems to think she was abducted.

"I think she was abducted," said Wendy Mattice, who didn't think her daughter had any enemies and or ran away. Mattice, a health care aide, left her parent's home in Johnstown on June 22, Abrams said.

If someone was on foot and dragged her to another camp, I'd think dogs would've tracked her. If someone followed her in a car or ATV, I'd think she would've noticed, but that's still a possibility. I feel it's important the Sheriff hold a formal press conference soon and share every bit of info and answer questions. Show the location of the camper. People want to help, but need the facts confirmed. DON'T GIVE UP!

The only way into the campsite is through a narrow dirt road, Abrams said. A witness who lives down the road didn't remember any car driving in or out other than the car police believe was driven by Mattice, Abrams said.

No animal attacks have been noted in the area, he said. Police examined Mattice's text messages and found no red flags,

Just thinking here, if her car door was open, and the camper door was open, I picture this possible scenario: she parked, turned off car, was surprised by someone in the trailer. Ran out got in car, was overpowered and dragged from car...
Or: she pulled up, someone ran out of camper, overpowered her etc.
Because I'm stuck on the car door and the camper door being open, UNLESS, she was unloading supplies from car to house in which both would be open. Where did she stop in town? And to echo a poster above, WHO WAS IT THAT SAW HER????
We need a press conference so bad. This poor girl.

You're asking one of the most important questions, IMO. At this point, we need some big clues to help the sheriff figure this out. (He may not know the people on this forum are brilliant.)

I admit, without confirmed facts, I'm desperately coming up with any scenario I can imagine. I searched and found several stores still open at 9 p.m. or later around there.

Why would it hurt the search or investigation to know if she purchased something and if it was still in her car? I'm under the impression she disappeared immediately upon arriving at the campsite, but we haven't been supplied with enough info to support that, IMO.
