Found Alive NY - Rachael Mattice, 24, Wells, 22 June 2016

I don't know anything about the neighbor but I assume they have been checked out and if so I would think they are a little uneasy until there are answers of what happened to Rachael.

The only way into the campsite is through a narrow dirt road, Abrams said. A witness who lives down the road didn't remember any car driving in or out other than the car police believe was driven by Mattice, Abrams said.

BBM. It is my suspicion that the last sighting of her in Wells between 9:15-9:30 that night and the "witness who lives down the road" are one and the same.

Sometimes LE will hold back facts to protect the victim. IF they found something not looking right for Rachael they might chose not to disclose that hoping she would be found soon.

If it's true she WAS going for a walk in the moonlite than that could indicate suicide. But surely the mother receiving that news and that call would know something was not right.

I think what we have with this case is a lot of bad reporting of facts and non fact and also a post from a FB blogger that may or may not be true about the car door being left open.

I can't imagine why this sheriff would not make a clear statement of facts unless..Rachael would look bad, facts indicate a suicide or maybe this is the sheriff's first case and he/she's in over their head.

BTW are they getting any County, State or FBI help with this one or is it just Andy and Barney Fife?

Also I watched the video of the town and parade but does anybody happen to have a picture of the actual place she was staying? I did not realize it was by the water. I always thought it was up in the hills.

A map showing Hernandez Rd. and the immediate surroundings. It is not directly on the lake but it is almost directly parallel to the West Sacandaga River. As expected, the area is heavily forested. If traveling by car note there is one way in and one way out (cul-de-sac at end). There are a few other houses on the road and I'm sure LE has spoken to all of the ones that are currently inhabited. I do not know how far up the road R's family campsite is but, if not the first one, hopefully neighbors noticed a car coming in/out that they did not recognize.

If I didn't work until 6 in downtown Albany I would consider going to the vigil tonight. I'll be thinking of those who can and hoping R comes home before then so that this is a celebration instead.

Bringing forward this map from page 4 showing an aerial shot of Hernandez Rd. with the West Branch Sacandaga River flowing nearly parallel. It does not show the exact place she was staying, but it does show the water nearby. Click on the attachment to enlarge.

I understand those of you who are saying LE might withhold facts that could potentially shine a bad light on Rachael, but this case needs a serious clarification of details. If they truly believe Rachael may have been abducted, I feel LE would have already done a presser and spoken to people in the area about the need to be on the lookout. I also feel they ought to be warning other locals of the dangers of a perp on the loose. We are not hearing any of this which is standard in a suspected abduction. Either they are looking in a different direction, or as another poster suggested, they may be inexperience and have no idea what they're doing.

I have heard NYS Police are on the scene and I've also heard brief mention that the FBI is involved, but I'm not sure I've seen any official sources. It is true that the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office does not deal with nearly as much crime as some of the other agencies we've seen report on missing persons. I don't know that they've ever heard a missing persons case as popular as this one in their history.

Below to be considered rumor: Daily I do a public Facebook search for Rachael's name just to see what people are saying. Last night I saw one of her family members (extended family) comment and say something to one of her friends about the need to keep details quiet and to not be going around talking about certain things. I wonder what's going on with that.

MC posts on the daily or so news postings are quite disturbing, makes me uneasy.

Thanks!, but still doesn't answers all of my questions. A poster MC on some of the SMS seems to claimed that he saw her after she was reported missing. I'm not sure if that is true or what?

If it's true about her saying she was going on a hike then that puts a totally different angle on this, but right now, the same with anything else mentioned I'm taking it with a pinch of salt as it seem a bit conflicting. I agree the police need to clear up the facts.

Does anyone local know what time it gets dark in the area?

No, it's not true! Michael Crook is absolutely the worst. Never listen to anything is says. He inserts himself into every missing persons case he can find and wreaks complete havoc. I'm sure you've noticed my signature and how I very closely follow the Brittanee Drexel case. In her case he made an entire blog, Twitter, and Facebook page pretending to be her. Every time you see his name report him.

It is still mostly light around 8:00 but between 8:30 and 9 it starts to get dark. I work until 9 two nights per week and there is still a glimmer of light in the sky but is mostly dark.

Oh my, No I didn't know. I thought this was his first disturbing posts! Thanks for the heads up.

No problem. I don't expect everyone to know. Here's a bit of background info:

Follow the link below for discussion on what he's done in other missing persons cases:

I wish I could link some of this to Rachael's poor friends & family who might very well be falling for some of what he says, but I don't know that it is my place to do so.

UPDATE, 7/2/16: Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of $2,000 for any information deemed to be responsible for locating Rachael Lynn Mattice, whose last contact with her family was June 22.

Rumor: CBS6 posted this on their Facebook page 3 hours ago and someone who has supposedly been involved in the search for Rachael commented that there is information that the media is not releasing. I wonder what's going on!

The article says (BBM)
The campsite showed no signs of a struggle, no suicide note and no indication any one other than Mattice had been there, Sheriff Karl G. Abrams said Thursday.

That can't be quite accurate, as there should at least have been indication of her father being there (shoeprints, tire tracks, fingerprints) at the time the police arrived at the scene. I feel bad for asking this, but is it certain her father had nothing to do with her disappearance? I don't know anything about their relationship...

Wow what a troll!

I was wondering about a boyfriend or hookup, but I suppose there would be a phone/text/computer trail.

If you go to Rachael's Facebook page and look at her "Profile Pictures" album it says it was last updated on June 30. There is a comment on one of the news articles pointing this out and one of her friends said it was the FBI. Looks like they are looking into this possibility.

What a shame that the search for Rachael has become dependent on half statements from relatives and friends, social media vague remarks, and sloppy news reports. I imagine if she were my daughter or friend I'd be beside myself with frustration.

At this point we need confirmed facts and details from LE to clear up the conflicting reports. I don't think the statement from a relative about her going hiking was conclusive enough as to the timeline. Rachael has been missing ten days and no one seems to have any idea where to look. Is LE really clueless as to whether she was abducted or walked off? If LE is holding back on info then they need to share it now.

:sigh:

I totally agree!! And I know the police don't owe us any explanations, and they might be working on a case and know exactly what they are dealing with, but surly they have a duty to there locals to let them know what to be on the look out for, is there any danger?
Her mother seems sure she's been abducted.

I hate cases where there isn't much information, or mixed up information, just makes me feel like there is no control over the situation or strong leads to follow.

If she just disappeared voluntarily, then the doors left open, car running, would have been staged. I guess it is possible but my gut feelings keep saying she was abducted.

“Her car was there and the camper was there, but there were no obvious disturbances,” the sheriff said. “We didn't see anything out of the ordinary.”

He said his department and state police have been searching the family's property and the surrounding area but no additional evidence has been found. Abrams also said the department has been working with both the Gloversville and Johnstown Police Departments given her ties to the local community.

What should we believe? Nothing out of the ordinary would mean the doors to the car or camper were not left open with her phone and belongings left in the car, nor the car left running until it ran out of gas. This sheriff sure is tight-lipped. He says she's just gone, and that's that. I still want to know details before I have confidence in this sheriff's "non-information".

What's ordinary?
-Are there signs she actually parked her car and slept in the camper that night?
-Or does the sheriff believe she was not at the camp that long before disappearance?

Somebody could've been lying in wait hours before and then taken her without much sign of disturbance. Sitting behind some trees, maybe on an ATV, she opens her car door... Plenty of people have been abducted and kept someplace for years and years waiting to be rescued. I feel any clues early on are important.

The only person that we know that knows she/her car came down the road for home is the neighbor. I hope she had her doors locked when she stopped to text or called her mom.
