Found Alive NY - Rachael Mattice, 24, Wells, 22 June 2016

  • #81
Not sure if I have the details correct. Keeping Rachael in my prayers.

Car was left running and had run out of gas by the time her father got there next day. The car door and camp door were left open. Not sure if it's a camper or an actual cabin. Her phone was left in the car. Something missing, but not mentioned what it is.

- Followed from town when she stopped on the way there?
- Someone was already there robbing the place?
- Bears?
- Someone she knew planned this?
- Any other thoughts?

It's a lot more hopeful if someone kidnapped her and is keeping her alive. It sounds like that's why they're saying look for her even 200 miles away.

I have a bad feeling she might have been abducted. I'm praying she's found safe.

I think a gun could very possibly be what's missing.
Perhaps when she's pulled up she's see a car, the door open, left her car running and got out to investigate?

I feel so so heavy hearted for this girl.

Not sure which camp she was staying at but from the shot in the video from the bridge it looks to be a beautiful area. I see a small home in the background, yard groomed, not quite as desolate as I expected. Was there a trailer she was staying in? I guess I don't understand the concept of "camp". Is it customary for her to stay out their alone? The fact that she went to a store and then this happened suggests to me that she could have easily been followed home. Were the items she bought, if any, put away inside? It is puzzling that the "door to the camp" was open and the car was running with the door open with her possessions inside. Maybe she left the car running to run inside for something and that is why her phone was in the car. When was she taking the hike? Sorry so many questions but there just doesn't seem to be a lot of information on her disappearance. What time of day or night did this happen?

Thank you to anyone willing to try to answer all my questions!! :)

I can't speak for certain, but I think this will turn out to be erroneous reporting. If not then this is brand new news that even Rachael's friends are not familiar with. I commented on the Facebook post of this article and called into question the accuracy of the hiking statement and one of her friends responded that she was not going hiking.

I took it to mean that that even if your 200 miles away keep an eye out. If someone strange is staying at your motel, etc. I could be wrong, maybe they have someone in mind and this is a hint?

I didn't interpret it that way but thanks for giving me a new way to look at it. It could mean that as well. I'm definitely keeping my eyes peeled here in Albany. Last week we had a missing elderly couple from Oneida (I believe) County and they had their license plate posted all over our highways on electronic billboards. The couple was found safe and Oneida is even further from me than Wells is. I know we don't have a license plate for Rachael but I wish something similar could be done!

Thanks for sharing it, but I don't believe it. Bad reporting, IMO. It's so misleading to say she was going hiking. She wouldn't leave her car running and her phone in the car! Watching the news video though is worth it only because it shows just how hard searching for her has been. No clues to whether or not she was abducted, but that seems very likely.

Yes, as others have questioned, did she purchase something on the way? That should give them some clues. I wish they'd share what they've figured out so far. Are they leaning more towards abduction or she ran off into the woods to go hiking? I think the investigators need to figure out if she was abducted because, if so, then she might not even be in that area anymore.

Gonna keep praying.

Props to Rachael's friends for spreading her name far and wide. Although Huffington Post isn't a mainstream media source, it still has millions of followers! Rachael is clearly loved by all who know her. It's so good to see this on my news feed and not from a local news agency. I know the story has already been shared but not from this website and the more the merrier!

Few leads in Adirondacks search for woman
Sheriff: "There's no good direction to go" in effort to find Rachael Lynn Mattice
By J.p. Lawrence Updated 9:40 pm, Thursday, June 30, 2016

Authorities are stumped in their search for a 24-year-old Johnstown woman at a remote camp in the Adirondacks.

Deputies, forest rangers and State Police using helicopters have combed the mountainous Hamilton County areas where Rachael Lynn Mattice was last seen June 22.

The campsite showed no signs of a struggle, no suicide note and no indication any one other than Mattice had been there, Sheriff Karl G. Abrams said Thursday.

Hopefully this helps answer at least a couple of your questions.
Good eyes however, I don't see any indication that this building is on her property. It's been described as a camper up a trail. When she arrived at the bottom of the road she told her mom she was home. This building is at the lower right end of the woods and looks to be a year round home, not a camp. I could be wrong but I think it's a neighbor.

We live about 10 miles away and the camp is very isolated. I'm told it is very hard to find with lots of side roads.
