I'm new but I heard about this when it first happened as I am a Long Island resident. I thought my first post here should be my three top theories:

Ok...here are my three theories:

Foul Play Theory:
Mayer was involved with the mob. He was snitching. Just like in Donnie Brasco he gets a phone call to come to a "meeting." He leaves work early, stops off at the scrap metal place, has the face that will haunt his wife, stops home to say a goodbye but she is not home, so he drops the money, wallet and phone off and heads to the train station to meet his "friends." We know how that story ends....

Suicide Theory:
Ida hasnt earned money since 2007. He has been supportive through the legal troubles but they are living beyond their means. The money is running out. They're going to have to sell the house. Ida is depressed because of the loss of her career. Robert is depressed because he is not earning enough to support his family. He doesnt feel important anymore. He comes home get his gun, drops his stuff off, drives to the train station and parks his car where he thinks it will not be vandalized. He knows that if he kills himself, his family wont receive the insurance money so he walks deep and deep into Edgewood Preserve and into the tunnel system so he would not be found. He figures everyone will think he has gone missing and in three years his family can declare him legally dead and collect on the life insurance policy.

Took off Theory:
His whole life has been a lie. He can been talking to his boyfriend again against Ida's wishes. He loves his family but he cannot put up with the charade anymore. He cant come out. His family and children would never understand. Him and his boyfriend decide to start a new life in another part of the country. He is not worried. He is skilled. He can get handyman jobs off the books.

We don't know everything in this investigation, IMO. You could be right—he took off and has a new identity. I seriously can't be so sure, because evidence is scant, odd, and we don't know much about him.

There has to be a reason she has not hired a PI!

Phili------if you had a specialty in nursing like peds intensive care, would a second state test be required????

Nope, Cawfee...nursing specialization consists of certification through that specialty association, such as the American Nurses Association (ANA) or individual practice associations (there are many). Testing is done for specialization thru those organizations and continued education is required to keep the certification. Totally separate from licensing. Sorry for off topic...

Just a quick speculation - if IM was not bringing home a regular paycheck - and RM was.... i would assume that their medical insurance would be paid through his job - (in NY a family of 4 paying on their own would be outrageous!) .... if he took off, and is not contributing through his paycheck - how long before his children would not be covered? if he is such a family man - i can't see him doing that to his children.....JMO

I'll bet for the Foul Play Theory!

Personally, I don't understand nor trust people that think they can manage all the tales they tell. That is a troubled soul, to me. Honesty and being true to yourself is what counts. I think it is a judgment call when you said it doesn't make them bad people. I personally would not want to be around a lier and a person I could not trust. That to me, IS a bad trait. That is a troubled person and if they can lie to your face repeatedly and don't change their behavior, why put up with that?? They need Help! And it's sad to me.
MAYBE THAT'S WHY RM LEFT???
IMOO.

I was married to a liar. That man would lie about anything, anytime, to anyone. Having a conversation with him was like a horrible game, talking in circles...people (including me) were always like "but I thought you said...?" It was crazy and I ran as fast as I could. Didn't notice it in 2 years of dating, but after the wedding, WOW!!! While I may not tell you everything about me, what you get is the truth and I expect the same. And I consider lying by omission lying too! The tale of the wallet in itself in this case reminds me of talking to Mr. Long Gone Philigumbo!!!! UGH. :banghead:

I always compared it to living in a cabin with a tin roof next to a cliff....you hear little rocks falling, but you never know when to expect the boulder... :moo:

But didn't IM state after watching the video his face haunts her due to it looking worried and nervous. Wouldn't the foreman pick up the same vibe or is that something a wife sees because she know her husband. I know I can tell just by looking at my husband what kind of mood he is in. Just seems like to different scenerios are painted here.

Also if the LE saw the video and saw that he had a worried and nervous look, wouldn't they have searched the grounds of arrow? I know doing the searches, a couple of people asked if we can search there and we were told no. Only LE had the right to do it. I know they supposebly went there but no scenting dogs were there.

Remember, it wasn't known right away that he was at Arrow that day. IMO the Arrow employee who was interviewed was speaking about RM in general terms. I can't imagine remembering a customer's demeanor 2 weeks after seeing him, unless he was freaking out or causing a scene.

Was Roberts pic on the local morning and evening news casts?
How about his face on the front page of the news papers?

My question is???????
Why didn't the Arrow ppl call LE and say hey that man was in our establishment that day?

The LI paper, Newsday, didn't print a story much less have him on the front page. Maybe they don't watch the Long Island news channels. It wasn't blaring out of every newscast. Far from it.

Now don't you think there is a reason why there was nothing put out in the media about Robert mayer? There has to be a reason! Because im sure he would have been front page... LONG ISLAND MAN MISING!

here in my little part of paradise we get a phone call via the sheriffs office about any missing peeps young old anyone considered endangered.

There has to be a reason she has not hired a PI!

They're expensive and she doesn't have the money and no one is offering their services gratis?
