Let's try to think of things he would empty his trunk for...taking stuff to the dump?

Lets think----if the trunk has been broken for a while, maybe it's been empty for a while. You wouldn't keep anything in a trunk that didn't lock properly, would you? Ida knew the trunk was broken, so I take that to mean it didn't "just" happen.

to my knowledge the wallet found in the garage and its implied it was empty-devoid of any ID or cash. Questions came up several times about drivers' license (possible he had a copy), credit and debit cards, business cards etc---those questions are IIRC unanswered. Of course it may have been tackled in the Voldemort and just not answered on WS.

All along I thought the wallet was left with everything in it in tact. Ida kept claiming he had no ID on him, which implied everything that he kept in the wallet was found in the wallet.

I don't recall seeing anywhere that the wallet was empty. It was stated that he didn't have ID on him, which (to me) means the ID was in his wallet, at home.

MOO

Not trying to be snarky but it says right on the missing poster that he has no ID and something else..memory not being kind this Morning, need cawfee!

no snark at all love!!!!! anything a few threads back is slowing leaking from mind---and even that includes the re-posted poster Cat provides at the beginning of each thread.

But to think of it---a wallet (man's or woman's) can carry alot of stuff---ID, credit cards, debit cards, store cards, medical info--RM had family in LE--does he have any PBA cards????

I really thought I had read it somewhere -- it could of course be one of the magical mysterious facts that were flipped, recanted, reversed etc.

And by the way, if this car was indeed his baby, I find it VERY difficult to believe he would not have had that trunk fixed within a day of it happening. I am starting to distance myself from this supposed car love affair. I am starting to think that he took his car to work so he could transport things such as scrap or perhaps something more valuable, and not necessarily legal, not because he was scared of vandalism at the train station. His car gave him the freedom to run "errands" before he got home. And even before he got to work, especially if he's leaving at 4:30am for a 7am start time with a one hour drive.

I don't think he hated the train station as we are led to believe. In fact, I think he was VERY familiar with it, which would imply he knew there were no cameras there. If he hadn't ridden the train in 6 years from deer park, how would he know there were no cameras installed in the meantime? That was the excuse he gave to Ida for not wanting to ride the train, right?

I took it literally--- she is a lawyer-she said "He had no ID on him" I thought he took everything else from the wallet.

In the faqs (I am still allowed to mention these right?) It says no id, no credit cards and I believe she said she didnt think he carried those grocery tags on his keys. IIRC

Interesting . . I took it differently. To me, when I read he left his wallet behind, I assumed all his cards (ID, credit cards, debit cards, etc.) were left behind. IMO, there would have been a statement that the wallet was empty of most of it's contents, if his cards were missing from the wallet.

Maybe he didn't trust whoever he was meeting, so he left his valuables behind?
This is if he was meeting someone.

Just a thought—no facts.

IMO RM does not fit the profile of a guy who gets followed home to get robbed. He is not a defenseless-looking creature and I do not believe that this is random. I still believe things were made to look like he left because he

Oh I agree, not the follow home robbery type. But I wasn't indicating I felt that was the case but more answering Jerry516's response to my Road Rage theory.

But back to that, IIRC, the phone pinged in Melville at 1:45 then at Arrow at 2:15. To springboard off of what someone else pointed out, it doesn't take 30 minutes to get from Melville to Arrow, it's a 15 minute drive. However, given RM's precise location at the time of the ping and throw in friday afternoon traffic, blows that whole 15 minute timeline open. Traffic and a hot friday afternoon will get tempers flaring....and people looking nervous if being stalked.

Whew! Catching up here. :read: Respectfully snipping out some bits so I can put in my :twocents: without taking up a whole page, in theory.

I recall you are correct on the 1:45 ping because we all know I'm stuck on that + well a couple other bitty details. ;) IIRC 1:45 was the LAST ping + the phone "went dead" at 2:45. 2:15 he was captured on cam inside Arrow. No ping at 2:15 as I remember it. Just from memory here, please dear Lord don't ask me to dig for a link, I might get into a 3 hour dither trying to find the right one again! :truce:
I took this train to work for years. It was packed with people, no seats available and when the train stopped at Deer Park after 7pm alot of people got off and I was finally able to get a seat. So imo it had to be later, imo after 830pm for RM or whoever, to get that spot.
What if another vehicle was parked in that spot earlier? Red GTO pulls in, another vehicle pulls out to open the spot? Not saying I think this is what happened, just spitballing an idea of how it might have happened.
I agree, windstorm. Everyone was so busy doing detective work on others that something in RM's past may have slipped through the cracks. Maybe there is a connection or a clue in his past. IMO
I said way back, oh several threads ago probably - maybe the car was left in that spot because someone who knew him years ago when he did in fact park there regularly, was unaware he no longer did so. Meaning, they had been out of touch for a few years with RM, or were "away" + just returned. JMO
Hmmm, it is where the train station is but why not use THAT address. Where did this one come from? Why?

... a quote from the FAQ released 8-28:
"Rob’s wallet was found in the garage around 4pm on June 14th, after Ida realized he was late in coming home. At that time, $300.00 was also found in a drawer in the garage." ...
I understand being worried if he was usually home by 3pm, expected by 3pm that day. In IM's shoes, I'd probably tear the house apart if I couldn't reach him by phone. She quickly looked in the garage. What for, as in what was she looking for there? What did he or they keep in the garage that she was looking for? Something that should be there + she wanted to make sure it still was? I mean, I don't think she went in there looking for his wallet, but she found it in the process. JMO
passing a bottle of Advil and what ever you need to wash it down!!!
wine, beer, whiskey, tequila----pick your weapon my friend !!!!!

Just wondering....why would the trunk lock be broken for so long given the family income, the house and everything else appears to be maintained, and that he loved the car?

Interesting idea that maybe he cleared out his car to go back to Brooklyn for more copper or valuable scrap at the job site? But who drives back into Brooklyn at 3:00 P.M. on a Friday?

BBM. More so when you are expected at home and have some home tasks to complete before Sunday.

Maybe, I had always assumed the trunk was emptied between 2:41-2:51 but I guess we don't know that
I assumed the trunk had been empty since whenever the latch broke, other than daily stuff he was said to carry in there, tools, lunchbox, possibly the club. That stuff would (to my mind) travel to + from work, but not be left in there, so no risk of theft. IF he planned to haul scrap on Fri., my assumption was, IF there was anything in the trunk, he emptied it on Thursday or even before he left for work Fri. morning. This way he'd have the most space to load up scrap on Fri. + go to Arrow on the way home. Just my assumptions. :moo:

Wait. We don't even know where he loaded up scrap or what he scrapped. Possible he emptied the trunk Thur night / Fri morning + then filled it with scrap he'd collected over time in his garage. Leaves for work with a trunk full of scrap that he intends to cash in on the way home. Just theorizing here, not a fact to be found. JMO

To me, it seems odd with RM's potential income and the lifestyle of the family that $300.00 more or less every once in a while is worth the effort. It's not enough to bail a family out of serious financial issues. Not sure what the policy of the company is with regard to walking off with $300.00 worth of scrap. I know my company recycles scrap and would take a dim view of any of us walking away with any of it. We even have cameras that cover the containers.

I don't know if you know this but just by looking at google maps, any route he might have taken from the expressway to the scrap yard are highly congested with a lot of traffic lights.

If you read posts by our insider, it seems this money may have been for things IM was not aware of.

In Ida's own words, the $300 was minimal. To her it's minimal, maybe not to Rob. To most other people it isn't minimal. And even if you are wealthy enough and don't really need the money, a quick trip to the scrap yard for $300 of pure profit from scrap that wasn't yours to begin with is a decent score in my opinion. $300 for 30 minutes work! Again, it wasn't $10, it was $300. Even if you're well off, $300 extra spending cash would be nice. Gas money, beer money, something ida wasnt aware of money, lobsters and oysters money.....you get the drift.

Being very familiar with this area, my guess is that he got off the LIE at Rte 110 and took that south to Arrow. Anytime of the day this is a very congested area. Tons of businesses- restaurants, furniture stores, office buildings, supermarkets,
even an amusement park. So, a half hour to get to Arrow seems right on target.

Yes, agree. I avoid 110 if I can help it, any time of day.
