"The husband of a prison worker charged with helping two convicted killers escape from an upstate New York prison "can't stand by her" and was "blown away" when she revealed a plot to murder him, his lawyer said on Thursday."
<snip>
""He was just blown away by what was coming out," Dumas said. "The fact that she told him that these two inmates had a plot to kill him. She also had told him that she was not in agreement with it, that she was getting threatened by the inmates at that point.""

<snip>
""He realizes he can't stand by her, that she's kind of made her own bed in this situation and he's got to distance himself from that," Dumas said."

That part there kind of makes it sound like he wants to but his lawyer advises against it, doesn't it? maybe it's just me.

From your link:
Cuomo's decision to order a prison probe by his own inspector general, rather than an independent investigator, was criticized in an Albany Times Union editorial on Thursday as an effort to avoid blame for the governor's budget cuts to the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

"Such a grave and politically sensitive public safety matter should not be handled by one of Mr. Cuomo's own appointees," the newspaper said. "The escape demands an investigation that leads to answers, not one steered by political agendas."

The governor's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Now we know why her son said ""When you are put into a situation where your family member is threatened or other family members might be threatened, or at risk, you do a lot of things that you wouldn't do, to just protect your family,"

Calkins said he had met Matt before in a Buffalo lockup and knew he made extra money by doing drawings for inmates.

He said the rumor that went round the prison after the escape was that Matt used some of the money he made from drawings to buy tools and pay a guard on his floor “to look the other way.”

Hmm...that could explain some of how these guys were able to get away with their escape.

No, I don't believe prisoners have TVs in their cells. Maybe in a common area day room, but not inside the cells! What are they, mini man caves? I'm not buying it. Although I did read about mini refrigerators. I hope govt funds aren't paying for these "extra features."

Me either. Maybe they will show it on Prison Break tonight on ID channel at 9pm est.-Killers on the run.

Humiliating and torturing an elderly man is only second-degree murder? Certainly he went to the old man's house with the intent of harming or even killing the old man to get the money. How can that not be premeditation and first-degree murder?

Matt is one mean dude.

In NYS, first degree murder is only for certain kinds -- like killing a police officer or judge, etc. (which is why Sweat got 1st degree) or someone killed in an act of terrorism. There's a list, but can't remember all the specifics. Premeditation is not really an issue in either first degree or 2nd degree. "Intent to kill" is for both.
2nd degree is generally a sentence of 25 years to life. No parole until the first 25 years are served.

Good info about going to visit an inmate at Clinton. General info.
http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82943

I found the part about "Little Siberia" and "2 seasons -- winter and July" amusing. There's another case that a couple of us here followed closely -- Ganesh Ramsaran, who murdered his wife -- and he's incarcerated Clinton. He's not nearly as bad as Sweat and Matt in terms of violence and a life of crime -- basically he was at IT worker with IBM and a family man for years. But a BIG jerk! He was so arrogant and rude to the judge, DA, etc. that I think that's why he was sent up to the northlands.

Looks like freight trains go through Jackman Maine into Canada

Wanting to quote as usual, but got grey screen. Anyway -- can anyone find freight lines from...Lake Champlain (nearest lines to Clinton) to Jackman, Maine without going through Canada?

ETA: OK, have been researching more. First, that train that runs up and down the western shore of Lake Champlain appears to be a passenger train, not freight, and probably to hard to hop a passenger train.

Secondly, there's not really any freight lines running from that part of NY to that part of Maine. There is a freight line going through Jackman Maine, but the starting and ending point are in Canada.

I'm doubtful about the Jackman Maine lead. It just seems really hard to get there from New York. Although...driving there would be on a lot of back roads and logging roads and such. The only thing Jackman seems to have going for it is that it may be easier to sneak across the border there, as mostly uninhabited area.

If he wants to keep his job and any sort of standing in that small town, he's gonna have to cut her loose. He may not be able to keep his job anyway. (woo hoo! was able to post regularly this time!)

I haven't seen any other information about the Jackman Maine angle but Approx 7 Hrs by car with no traffic which happens to be what Tillie said they told her…7 hrs...who knows.

But if they had someone to drive them there, why did they hang out around the prison from early Saturday until at least Thursday? Thursday is when the dogs hit on both their scents at the gas station about a mile from the prison, and then followed that scent east for about 3 to 5 miles, to where a campsite was found, with food wrappers that were the brand sold at the prison commissary? Most likely the scent was fresh, because it rained on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday -- so if that had been their scent from earlier, it would have probably been obscured by the rain.

Did they have to call someone to come get them when Tillie didn't work out? Did they highjack a car that we didn't hear about? And how did they get through all those roadblocks?

I don't know.

I do know the sheriff has said the food wrappers have not been linked to them and I may be dead wrong but I'm not buying that any of the sightings were actually them and I'm not buying that dog's ever had their scent.

I don't know but the suspense is killing me.

"Honor housing has its rewards

A prerequisite for admittance into any honor housing unit is a positive disciplinary record. Ten maximum-security prisons have nearly 1,500 cells in honor blocks while there are almost 1,600 beds in honor housing at 18 medium-security prisons.

Inmates whose behavior allows for honor housing placement receive additional benefits that can include, depending upon facility, access to late-night recreation, additional television viewing hours, more liberal hours to use collect call-only phones, additional commissary buys, expanded on-unit cooking privileges, use of clothing washer and dryer machines, additional yard privileges and additional hours of shower operations.

Honor housing is also separate from the general population where conduct is not always so honorable. In maximum-security prisons, honor housing may offer larger cells than those in general population."

Do you have a link to where Sheriff Favro said that about the food wrappers?

He said it in a interview with Wolf B. I posted about as I was watching it if you want a date and time. Yesterday or the day before, I can't remember anymore.

Yesterday 1pm ish
