Saipov was married on March 25, 2013 to another Uzbek, Nozima Odilova, when he was 25 and she was 19 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Neither had been married before.

Saipov most recently lived in New Jersey, where the truck used in Tuesday's attack was rented. Neighbors in Paterson said he lived there recently.

In Ohio, Saipov registered two companies, Sayf Motors Inc in 2011 and Bright Auto LLC in 2013, which was listed as a "motor carrier" in a Department of Transport database.

According to Uber, it has reviewed Saipov's history with the company and has not identified any rider complaints about his safety as a driver. He passed the company's background check, though he has now been removed from the app, it said.

Saipov received multiple traffic citations, including for an incident in Missouri in 2015, when he was charged for failing to maintain his vehicle's brake system.

He appears to have been inspired by ISIS propaganda, though direct links to the group have not been described. ISIS has also not made any claim of responsibility for the attack. Police said a note written in English found near the truck used for the attack said it was done in the name of ISIS.

From your link...

"He was very happy guy," said Matkarov, who is also from Uzbekistan. "He liked the U.S. He is no terrorist. He's all the time happy, smiling all the time." He said Saipov later moved to New Jersey and began driving for Uber. San Francisco-based Uber said he started over six months ago.

Hm. Well I think yesterday's actions prove different.

Sidenote - it's creepy to think that your Uber driver could turn out to commit an act of terrorism like this. Idk why, maybe bc I uber a lot and have a tendency to have conversations with the drivers to fill the awkward silence, but it creeped me out.

Wow, I am late hearing the news. How terrible. They should withhold pain meds for his abdomen wound. Sorry, not sorry.

Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Should have sent him back to his home town for surgery and I don’t mean Florida.

Saipov was "radicalized domestically" in the US, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday morning. "The evidence shows -- that after he came to the United States is when he started to become informed about ISIS and radical Islamic tactics," Cuomo said. "We have no evidence yet of associations or a continuing plot or associated plots, and our only evidence to date is that this was an isolated incident that he himself performed."

Snip

Almost immediately, as investigators began to look into Mr. Saipov’s history, it became clear that he had been on the radar of federal authorities.

Over the last two years, a terrorism investigation by the F.B.I., the Department of Homeland Security, the New York Police Department and federal prosecutors in Brooklyn resulted in charges against five men from Uzbekistan and one from Kazakhstan of providing material support to ISIS. Several of the men have pleaded guilty. It is unclear whether Mr. Saipov was connected with that investigation.

Had been on their radar?

Seems there should be a step after that before the attack.

From FNN so no link:

News conference at 11:00 PM EDT.

All of the injured victims are expected to survive. Most serious injury was to a woman who had to have a double amputation. Among the victims is a 14 year old girl. Of those on the school bus, victims included 2 children and two adults.

Congressman McCaul, chairman of the House committee on Homeland Security, says that the ISIS website posted a cell phone picture of the location of the attack back in August.

Every. Single. Time.

Heads need to roll--this happens over and over and over. I mean, this guy wasn't even a citizen--why was he still here? The incompetence at these agencies is staggering.

Wonder who took that cell phone picture?

The most recent address for him was in Tampa, Florida. An address from 2015 also linked his name to Stow, Ohio, but he had reportedly been living in Paterson, New Jersey, for the past few months with his wife and two children.

He was “spontaneously religious,” Mirrakhmat Muminov, a truck driver and Uzbek community activist who lives in Stow, Ohio, told Reuters. “He started studying religion in the United States. He was withdrawn, nervous, sometimes aggressive. Because of that he was lonely, he lived in his own world. He was not very popular.”

“A chilling photograph of an ISIS logo on a cell phone was taken just weeks ago in the exact spot where the Manhattan truck attacker mounted a bike path killing eight, it has emerged.

The image, posted two months ago, shows a man holding a phone on the corner of Houston Street and West Street in Manhattan with skyscrapers including 1 World Trade Center in the background.

On Tuesday, at the same spot, terrorist Sayfullo Saipov drove a hire truck on to West Side Highway before plowing down pedestrians and cyclists along a bike path.

This photo is heartbreaking

Wearing shirts proclaiming "LIBRE," the Spanish word for "free," they posed for a photo as they set off on the trip meant to pay tribute to more than three decades of friendship. The men were from the city of Rosario, which has declared three days of mourning as a tribute to the men, reports CBS News correspondent DeMarco Morgan.

Haven't seen it in print yet, but per CNN, perp was recently an Uber driver. Probably how he got the idea to ram a pickup truck down a pedestrian/bike path. As Uber driver, perp was well aware of the traffic and pedestrian patterns around Manhattan.

ETA: Uber driver mentioned in this NY Times articles: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/31/nyregion/sayfullo-saipov-manhattan-truck-attack.html

Is it at all possible that he came the The United States to escape oppression only to be radicalized here?

Six people died at the scene. Two of the victims died at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Five of the people who died were visiting the city from Argentina on a high school reunion trip. The Argentine foreign ministry identified the victims as Hernan Diego Mendoza, Diego Enrique Angelini, Alejandro Damian Pagnucco, Ariel Erlij, and Hernan Ferruchi. The ministry said one of its citizens, Martin Ludovico Marro, is being treated at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

The victims were among eight friends celebrating the anniversary of their 1987 graduation from the Polytechnic School of Rosario, Argentina, with a U.S. trip to New York and Boston.

The four survivors in the Argentine group are in a state of shock. Only days earlier, before flying to the U.S., they had posed for a group photo, all of them wearing T-shirts with the word “Libre,” or Free.

One of the dead was a woman from Belgium. No information has been released about the two others who were killed.

Maybe return him the way NK returned Otto Warmbier.

An isolated incident as far as on that date, that time.
