So, on the Charley Project page for SL, did anyone notice that there's two newspapers listed as sources? The Altoona Mirror, and The Bedford Gazette. Both are in PA -- what's up with that? The AM has no link to archives that I could see; and I could search the BG archives, but not access articles. Searching by Lwowski turned up 0 entries, but searching by "Staten Island" betw. 1972-76 turned up 7. I find this confusing, but haven't made any headway with it. What could the Charley Project find in these pages to base their "missing" post on? Was she born there (I am not sure whether the earlier discussion of her being born in Germany was verified or speculative)? Anyone with better skills than me (in other words, everyone) is invited to dig. :computer:

Didn't the police report have Germany as her place of birth? That info would have come from her mother, so it would be verified in the sense that her mother would certainly know

LOL. Right, it said "nativity," which is not a term I'm familiar with being used that way, but I guess it means "native of"? That does seem like confirmation.

Semi-crazy Q: Could there be a town called "Germany" in western PA?

I have a subscription to Newspaper Archives-couldn't find any articles in their archives about Sylvia, even in the Altoona Mirror

For me, its not all that important that she threw them
he already said they argued, in PR

Whats interesting, is she left without them

I am still thinking they might have been sunglasses, since she isn't wearing glasses in any of the 3 pictures...

Yes I noticed that, but somewhere in her description, on one of the missing persons sites, it said glasses as part of her description

Its in the link above

NamUs: Hate to nag...but, I'd like the date of the newspaper engagement announcement.

NamUs: No pants or skirt?

I caught that, too, in the clothing description-maybe she was wearing jeans, and so was everyone else, so it didn't merit any mention?

IMO the shirt is supposed to be skirt
She was wearing a green skirt

I believe its in the PR

Light green

You're are sweeter than I am, Moose.

The morsels of info should be corrected on NamUs.

I may not have said so at the time, Odyssey, but I always thought this was a good supposition on your part. That, or a weak prescription, perhaps for distance. Nonessential in other words.

Dang, can that really be a dead end? Did you try searching by "Staten Island" or some other term? Maybe the fiance's name? (Both of their last names are so easy to misspell.)

P.S. It was the Bedford Gazette that I got the 7 hits on "Staten Island" betw. 1972-76.

Unbelievable! It's just West of Altoona!

So, another thought. For the intake officer to record on the interview form just "Germany" -- just going for a moment with the possibility that it's not the country, but Germany, PA -- would that mean the intake officer would also have had to be familiar with Germany, PA? I suppose he/she (yeah, right, "she") could also have misinterpreted/misunderstood the mother's answer to mean the country. Wish we had a birth certificate.

What do you mean? Doesn't it say LIGHT GREEEN "skirt" with "trousers" crossed out (as in "trousers or skirt"/"male or female")? That can't be sHirt, bc right under that it asks "shirt or blouse" UNKNOWN. It sounds like she was wearing a skirt with a "twin set" sweater, with the cardigan closed over the shell. Am I missing something here?

Later: Oops, you meant NamUs, not the PR. I think NamUs misread the PR "skirt" entry as shirt. They have her wearing a GREEN SHIRT (should be SKIRT) and a WHITE SWEATER. Maybe that's what you meant. Okay, brain going down ... making my way to bed :)
