Sorry about that, Saracen. Yes, I meant to say handbag (It took a while for me to stop referring to handbags as pocketbooks)!

Are they not still called pocketbooks? I still sometimes call it that, or purse-Saracen, I understood what you meant! So, ok-however Sylvia disappeared, she went with her handbag and wallet. I wish any remaining family members would try to get the attention of some investigator who is willing to look at this again. How can they decline to do so when some unrelated person says she went missing by choice? We know better than to take this at face value nowadays...there must be resources to tap that wouldn't be too time consuming (unless it becomes a problem for a fellow officer-retired or not-who dropped the ball)

So nice to see you here!

Your family story is a compelling redefining story. It speaks to the great strength of the women left behind. Thank you for sharing it. I was afraid to respond in the minefield of the SM thread! --But am so glad I have the opportunity to do so here.

Respectfully BBM

LOL. Thanks, Rose. Good to see you here, too, Night Owl.
I appreciate your thoughts on my family's story. And that's a good nudge to put SL aside for a while and look at those papers ...

Have a good Sunday!

Where is Gajonka, with some answers?

Odyssey, given your deeper familiarity with the area, maybe you can help me with this. I remember class differences running pretty deep on SI, as distinguished by the neighborhood you lived in. If indeed SL and her BF/F went to different high schools, would Tottenville High School and Port Richmind represent different social classes at that time? It would be interesting to see a map of the different neighborhoods. I vaguely remember a more blue collar neighborhood being closer to the NJ side, on the inland portion of the island.

Re the part BBM (and a little OT), your recollection of this and epiphany's thoughts about the Geraldo expose of Willowbrook brought all of that back to me as well. The conditions at Willowbrook were dreadful.

I don't remember SI having much class difference - there were a couple bad areas (Mariners Harbor and St George come to mind) and there was Todt Hill, which was very upscale and wealthy... but most of Staten Island was just former Brooklyn residents who came to SI to raise their children.

Port Richmond High School is the school I would have gone to if I hadn't moved away, it's on the northern part of the island. Tottenville is way further south.

Looking at the map, I would guess that Sylvia moved sometime between high school and her disappearance - the Goodall address is not in an area that would be zoned for Port Richmond.

The engagement announcement said Sylvia went to Tottentville HS and her BF/F to Port Richmond HS. Does that align with what you see of their addresses?

Sorry, I think I got confused and thought SHE went to Port Richmond.

Yes, Tottenville is possible for the Goodall address, and I don't know what his address was. Was it in the engagement article?

FWIW, the movie theater was much closer to the Port Richmond area than it was to the Tottenville area. There were probably other theaters closer to her house, so I'm thinking they may have gone there after spending time at his house??

That is just more speculation, of course...

Agree, Gut...I have not been convinced that she completed/received her college degree.

Another question I had was whether or not she had taken a term off from college, and if so, when was that?

We need date of engagement, too. At publication of announcement, she is identified as a Senior Biology Major.

Also interesting in light of personal opinions and beliefs she may have held concerning pregnancy and termination (more than once) of.

Would that have coincided with the 'first' pregnancy?

Good night all

"The Night Owl" I am not

Night Rose!!!!

....Night Owl was having fun at a Latin Jazz big band concert last night.... late!!! -Completely life affirming in the wake of all the sadness over SM.

--Need to get my life back in order but this group is really good. --And maybe we'll be able to make some inroads into this lovely woman's disappearance off the face of the earth.

Maybe a dumb question, but who is SM? It's not registering for some reason, all that comes to mind is Summer McStay but I doubt that's who's being referred to?

Hi Odyssey (love that ID) SM is Sarah Majoras. Missing and then recovered dead in the canal in Lambertville NJ. I think almost all of us except you and Epiphany are coming directly from that thread. So, we are familiar with one another.

Another missing person case, NJ resident Sarah Majoras, who was found in the Delaware and Raritan Canal several days after disappearing-police and medical examiner concluded that she was intoxicated and accidentally fell into canal and drowned.

Oh, no... that is sad news :(

I usually only look at cases from the 90's and earlier so I hadn't heard of Sarah.

..Thank you, it was very sad. --Saddest story around central Jersey and Bucks County PA in a very long time...

So interesting, why cases 1990 and earlier?

I dunno, I guess I find that I usually don't have anything to contribute with newer cases, because (I'd like to think anyway) all the available technology has been used, the initial articles are easily available, facebook pages are made, etc.

With the older cases, it often seems like they did a search at the time, then just let it go... and I see so many things that could be done now that couldn't back then. Or sometimes a similar case that happened later that seems connected but they never caught it because they set the first case aside...

Sometime the older ones won't have a photo... so I try to find one in old newspapers, yearbooks, etc.

I guess I just feel useless when it comes to more recent cases, is the best way I can describe it.

That very well described, the newer ones have posters closer to the action and able to input far better than i could, maybe with modern technology more can be uncovered in the older cases..
