I'm talking about UID #11774-she was found in Suffolk NY on April 2, 1978. She was the only rule-out so far.

Perry County Pennsylvania Jane Doe could be a possibility, too, but for the clothing found (wool twill pants, and other things that don't match what she was last seen wearing-and don't match the season she disappeared).

What about a girl who was found on 12/20/75 in Los Angeles-checked into a hotel under the name "Alison Lowell"? Age is right, and so's the time frame-this UID had brown hair, but that isn't difficult to change. I wish there was more detailed info; if Sylvia Alice Lwowski wanted to change her name, I could imagine Alison Lowell as a possibility

In the UIP Westchester County, NY which Skeet linked, UIP was discovered in 1988, probable year of death 1988 and a postmortem interval of 6 hrs, maximum age 25:

SL would have been about 35 yo in 1988.

Yet they felt it warranted to list SL as ruled-out.

Is there some indication that she could have left on her own (prob year of death 1988) that they ran that one through?

BBM: IMO, they would have been foolish not to consider that possibility, don't you think?

I saw that-but, for me, one man's hazel eyes could be another man's brown eyes. Really, what color is hazel-greenish brown?

Hazel is awfully close to brown. I wonder what the chances of error here are?

Imo: This 1975 CA UID #4457 should go on the list t/b compared b/c of date found, age, height & weight, and the “check in name”, as Jmoose points out (an interesting observation when you consider the timing of date found).

There are fingerprints to compare – I am assuming since all parts were recovered that there are photographs of the victim.

Looking at Sylvia’s photos her hair color can also be interpreted as light brown, as well. Was she a “natural” strawberry blond as is listed on her NamUs profile? Imo – no she was not.

While I do think the chances are greater they are correct in the UID’s eye color – hazel eyes definitely have variations from green to brown and thus could be interpreted differently. There is always a margin for error, too. (imo)

I too wonder what other states Sylvia has possible connections to whether through family or friends at Wagner College. I don't how she would end up in California - but all directions on Staten Island seem just as elusive.

When I get some time this weekend I'll gather these UIDs together for Kim-

California is pretty far afield, and I don't expect that the girl in Los Angeles would end up being Sylvia-but the name struck me, and I wanted to go in that direction in order to not be closed-minded about the possibilities. Since that was a possibility according to the police, it seemed like a good idea to go there. It's pretty unlikely, in my opinion, but stranger things have happened.

Why do women who venture out in places familiar to them disappear? I read recently about a woman named Amy Wroe Bechtel, who went missing while out on a run in a place she was well acquainted with-that's the best guess, at least, although some think her husband is responsible. It happens over and over again to so many people-more women than men, it seems...Amy was someplace where, if she really did disappear on her run, that nobody'd see anything. But Sylvia shouldn't have been. There's a bus stop right by the shopping center, which she'd likely have taken advantage of, rather than walking, I think. So where is she?

• UID CALIFORNIA
Date found: December 20, 1975
Circumstances: The decedent was staying at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. Had checked into the hotel under the name of " Alison Lowell". A Greyhound bus ticket purchased in Bakersfield, CA on 12/15/1975 was found on the dresser of the hotel room. No ID papers found in the room or with the decedent.

https://identifyus.org/en/cases/4457

Websleuths notes: 1975 CA UID #4457 t/b compared b/c of date found, age, height & weight, and the “check in name” Alison Lowell. Sylvia Alice Lwowski might have used a variation on her middle and last name?

There are fingerprints to compare – I am assuming since all parts were recovered that there are photographs of the victim.

There are more photographs of Sylvia added recently. Looking at Sylvia’s photos, her hair color can also be interpreted as light brown.. Was she a “natural” strawberry blond as is listed on her NamUs profile?

Re: the UID’s Brown eye color – hazel eyes (as described in Sylvia’s profile) definitely has variations from green to brown and thus could be interpreted differently? There is not much more info provided online re: this UID.

https://identifyus.org/cases/5166

Websleuths notes: The second composite on NamUs (Missing&Exploited) is similar to Sylvia.

https://identifyus.org/en/cases/9803

Websleuths notes : Eye shape, distance between the eyes, cheekbones, width of the lips, nose...good enough to compare IF you compare to SL's younger photos..

Trying to make use of my subscription to ancestry:

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/...pcat=40&fh=9&h=3030301359&recoff=9&ml_rpos=10

Not sure if this is the correct EL but it's a passenger list from 1953. I don't know when Sylvia's parents were married. A person named Gregorio L. came from the same area, same day with her. Callao Peru (Romanian).

Skeet, I am not signed into Ancestry right now so I can't bring up the passenger list you posted, but if we are talking about the same record, I have a screen shot of both the passenger list and a related Ancestry record in my notes. I saw it last year some time but discounted this as being EL for a couple of reasons.

(1) This EL and Gregorio came to New York by way of Peru in April 1953. Since April 1953 is the year SL was born, and we know SL was born and spent the next several years in Germany, being in Peru (or New York) around this time seems unlikely.

(2) The Ancestry record I have actually shows the couple arriving in NY from Peru on the very day SL was born, making the above even less likely.

(3) Our EL's birth year is 1927, so she would have been about 26 in 1953, whereas the woman in the record is 32, acc. to the Ancestry record I have.

(4) These records appealed to me because I had wondered if EL could have been ethnically Romani, but JL says she was ethnically Polish living in Germany.

Interesting records though :) Does it sound like we're talking about the same ones?

Yes we are probably talking about the same one, I was just trying to see if I could find anything on ancestry.

Gotcha. I love Ancestry. It's amazing -- and always one of my first GO-TOs. But like you I found very little on the Ls (NY & U.S. census info on JL Sr.'s, birth family; JL Sr.'s military enlistment and VA death records; birth/death/SSN info on both parents), and even less when searching by EL's maiden name (nada).

Just one thought re the BBM: At that time, California was a very common destination for runaways and dreamers. Southern CA in particular was still wild in areas, and the coast would have been a marine-biology lover's dream. In 1977, my BF at the time and I loaded up a van with our belongings and moved to San Diego. For me, this was part of five years I killed between my first year of college and going back later on. In San Diego I was a prep cook in a fish market on the harbor. Every morning I had coffee at dawn sitting alone on a dock while a resident harbor seal swam around me. I was in awe of the people who trained dolphins at SeaWorld and the San Diego zoo. I lived dirt cheap a half block from the ocean, in Ocean Beach, which was very "alternative" at the time -- very young, bicycles being the main mode of transportation, lots of smoothie stands and falafel bars. For me, CA didn't turn out to be my forever home, but it was a huge draw. I am curious to see where this UID goes. I don't think it would be a stretch -- theoretically anyway.

No idea. I'm a freeloader on my father's account. My searches do pull up records from around the world -- is that any indication? And how would I know? If when signed in I looked at "my" member profile, would it say? Did you find more?

Not yet-but I have the world access (although tempting to purchase, it isn't as helpful as they lead you to believe). I don't have time this week, I don't think-but will try to find something as quickly as I can. What was Eva's maiden name again?
