Crews continue search for missing kayaker
Updated May 3, 2015 6:12 PM

CORNWALL-ON-HUDSON - The search for a kayaker who went missing on the Hudson River continued this weekend, after his fiancee was charged with his murder.

Angelika Graswald, 35, and her fiance, Vincent Viafore, 46, kayaked together in two separate crafts from Plum Point to Bannerman's Island nearly two weeks ago. While speaking with News 12, Graswald said they were overwhelmed by increasing wind and waves, which caused them to fall into the frigid water.

Graswald was rescued near the Cornwall Yacht Club, but the body of her fiance has not been found, despite extensive searches by multiple agencies and departments.

Now I'm thoroughly confused. Between BunnyHop's post and mine - you see the inconsistencies

(So, did they launch from the Cornwall Yacht Club? Was this the rescue point? Both? Is that even possible?)

Going to watch the embedded videos at the News12.com link (hoping y'all will join me) to see what else jumps out.

I have a running list of map points, but I can tell you, labeling them will be challenging.

IMO He never went out into the water. She killed him and then staged the whole scene on the water. Threw his empty kayak in and said he drowned. Maybe LE has DNA evidence at the home or in her car and that's why they charged her so quickly.

Were there any witnesses who, physically, saw HIM kayak? Hinky hinky.

Two things argue against this (and honestly, I believed that at first too). Supposedly, there was a couple outside looking through their telescope and saw 2 kayaks get into the water, BUT, they could not make out faces, so take that with a grain of salt? Secondly, the change to Orange County. He lives in Pokeepsie (I have no idea how to spell that) and that's not in Orange County, but Plum Point and the Cornwall Yacht club are. So, LE must have some kind of evidence they both made it alive to Orange County.

According to LE she was arrested because inconsistencies in her conversations with them . Charged with murder. I gotta say that's a pretty heavy charge to make ,now with the grand jury thing, they gotta have something very strong. In my country we have a saying: the fish dies by the mouth. (I swear no pun intended )
ETA: and she kept on talking after being read her Miranda's rights and then she blamed being arrested on talking too much.

Thanks, Surfie.
Respectfully, those arguments are not enough to convince ME that they both got in the water. I, also, don't believe she would have been charged with murder without more evidence than that. I guess we shall see.

IIRC LE said they're sure they were both in the water, someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

MOO, but I think she killed him somewhere on the island and he is buried/hidden somewhere, I don't think he's in the water - unless he's in there with a bunch of rocks on his person - even though LE did say that they both were in the water and she tampered with his kayak. The police version just doesn't add up.

A question for the kayak pros...is it the norm to go kayaking at dusk? At the end of a harsh winter? At this location? Without a life vest? TIA

I understand, but I can't see how she could've done that without help ( he was huge compared to her)or whiteness. Also I wonder, if she planned all that, she was putting herself at risk, she could've died of hypothermia in the water, how did she knew she'd be saved on time? Just thinking out loud.

She could easily slip something in his liquids, food etc.

From what I read here, they launched from the Cornwall Yacht Club and she was rescued near the Yacht Club.

And the telescope neighbors, they saw 2 images on the island?

Hi Mom, long time no see. :)

Remember, she was arrested on the island. Police were there investigating.
She happens to show up that same day with flowers to place on the island.
How did she get there? Perhaps with work crew that all arrive together by boat?

LE has their reports from rescue (?) boat, and telescope witnesses.
She must have said something very wrong at that time, that didn't jibe with other evidence.

I'm pretty sure she was arrested after she left the island. LE talked to her on the island when she blabbered too much, but she was arrested shortly afterward. I'll search for a link.

ETA: Oops...I checked for links, and you're right. She was arrested on the island. "Graswald was arrested Wednesday while placing flowers on Bannerman's Island..." http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/loca...der-Angelika-Graswald-New-York-301826811.html

I think she's used to "getting away" with things because she's small and adorable. I think she assumed LE would believe her story, no matter what her story was, because people are generally charmed by her and don't call her out on any mis-statements. She didn't realize LE aren't going to be charmed by inconsistent stories. Even after her arrest, I don't think she caught on that she won't be considered innocent just because she's cute and small.

JMO.

"Also I wonder, if she planned all that, she was putting herself at risk, she could've died of hypothermia in the water, how did she knew she'd be saved on time? Just thinking out loud. "

I'm wondering about the rescue boat that "happened" upon her at an opportune time. From what I heard, this was NOT a boat responding to SOS, they just came upon her. Then she called 911.

@Mom, yes, very unusual to be out at that time especially in cold weather.
Cover of darkness comes to my mind.
