so they buy stuff without opening and inspecting ! eww
..
also why are those relatives has a say about keeping the identity undisclosed ? where have they been when those poor things were buried in this state
Are you thinking that maybe this family had something to do with these deaths? That they seized the chance and bought those cases that they left there? Well it's possible I suppose, and it would be an interesting twist. But I can't see them being that buddy-buddy with the Korean family, assimilation being a pretty slow process, due to differences of culture and language.

Plus, I should think that their names being withheld by LE was just to protect them a bit from the public.

A shock new twist in the heartbreaking case of two children found dead in unclaimed bags has emerged as it was revealed their father died of a cancer a year before their mother went missing.

The sickening discovery of the boy and girl, who are thought to be aged between five and 10 when they died four years ago, rocked the world after they were discovered in New Zealand on August 11.

The dumped pair were found after a family purchased the contents of a storage unit and the children were found in two suitcases inside.

New Zealand and South Korean police are now searching for the mother of the children after discovering the father of the duo died from cancer in 2017.

She is currently listed as missing, but it's thought she flew to the Asian country back in 2018 when they children died.

Detectives have now revealed that up to a year before she flew to South Korea, her husband, the children's father, died from cancer.
Statistics being what they are, can we be certain that that missing mother is alive?

Could she have preceded her children in death?

Linked articles indicate the mother's passport left New Zealand for South Korea after the storage unit was set up, her passport has apparently not been used since arriving in South Korea.

True, similar to storage purchasers, in my area people put out big items that won't fit in bins, the night before garbage day, like chairs, tables, patio furniture etc. The "pickers" drive around and pick up items they like, and often in the morning many big items are gone. Jme

Oh, yeah, where I live 'curb weekend' has a holiday atmosphere, folks drive around picking up whatever is there -- lawn mowers, charcoal grills, lawn chairs, furniture. My son brought home a TV once & quickly sold it for $50!

So it seems, some items got the chance of "the 2nd life".
Lucky them :)

Good grief, nothing like that would be taken away by the refuse collectors here! o_O
Where I live people just post their unwanted goods on the local Facebook community pages, or similar. Either free or for sale, first come first served.

Our barbecue disappeared lightning fast, that's great for your son, oh and my better half has brought some some cool vintage items he kept.

With auctions like those, part of the attraction is not knowing what you're going to get.

I feel so sorry for that poor family who will most likely never get over what they won :(

As these children's mother is a NZ citizen, I wonder if that will make 'finding' her and extraditing her easier.
I haven't seen if she relinquished her South Korean citizenship. She may be a dual citizen.

I am thinking of Toyah Cordingley's case (24 years old and murdered on a Qld beach while walking her dog).
The location and extradition of an Indian POI - who fled to India from Australia shortly after Toyah was murdered, leaving his wife and children here - has still not happened. The extradition was requested 1½ years ago.

As police detectives 9425km apart seek answers over the gruesome discovery of two children's bodies in suitcases at a South Auckland home, a local body politician has spoken of the impact it was having in the nearby community.

Manurewa-Papakura Ward councillor Daniel Newman today said the terrible case had had a huge impact on those living in the area, and he said he felt hugely for the innocent family who had made the find.

"This has been a harrowing episode that has brought intrigue and questions upon an innocent family and the Clendon community where they live," Newman said.

I am guessing the mother is dead as well. She may not have left NZ at all. If the father died and had some resources, family disapproved of the wife etc. She might have been a victim as well. I think she also was a victim.

Someone else could have travelled "out" on her Korean passport. Then returned on a NZ or other one, thus no connection to her. I have friends with dual citizenship from old commonwealth countries. They will fly to UK or EU on British passport, then home to Seychelles, Fiji, etc with that country's passport.

Does LE have record of the children living in the US? School records, medical records, etc. Can we be sure they hadn't been in the storage locker in 2017? Perhaps LE has a record of who rented the locker and when.

I wonder when the last fee was paid.

Storage locker was in New Zealand. As far as I know, the US doesn’t enter in to the story.

Goodness! IMHO this is horrific on many levels. I've always had a fear (I also don't like clowns yikes!!) of bringing home something scary from an auction, yard sale, or (now) storage unit. Creepy dolls, masks, etc. Unfortunately, this is way beyond any of that. All crimes are disturbing but harming children goes into the pile of the worst of the worst. Other than being a beautiful country, I know little about the culture of NZ. It appears there is plenty of information for LE to work with....I hope it is enough.

Of course! Thank you! Edited my post to reflect the correction.
