Columbiana County officials on Friday confirmed Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost will oversee the investigation into the arrest of Evan Lambert.

The NewsNation reporter was arrested during Wednesday’s press conference held by Gov. Mike DeWine, who was providing an update into the East Palestine train derailment and the controlled chemical release.

Officials said local authorities elevated it to Yost’s office after information revealed multiple state agencies, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio National Guard, were involved in the arrest.

“We will work diligently with the OAG’s Office to ensure they have all necessary information, evidence, and materials required for a prompt review,” officials said in a press release obtained by WOIO.

Lambert was beginning a live broadcast at the same time DeWine began to speak, according to a NewsNation photographer who was with him doing a live report. The photographer said officers approached Lamber and asked him to stop.

NewsNation reported Lambert finished his report before being asked to leave by authorities.

Video from the scene shows officers removing Lambert from the gymnasium before wrestling him to the ground and placing him in handcuffs.

Lambert currently faces disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing charges, according to NewsNation.

Lambert has since been released from jail, according to NewsNation Senior National Correspondent Brian Entin.

DeWine has commented on the incident, saying reporters have “every right” to report during his briefings and that he did not authorize the arrest.

“If someone was stopped from doing that, or told they could not do that, that was wrong,” he said.

This is truly nuts, I saw the video and the reporter was speaking quietly at the back of the gymnasium, far away from the podium as they were about to start the PC. The reporter was already in the process of signing out when these cops completely surrounded him. Evan Lambert is the reporter’s name, he was cool as a cucumber and completely calm throughout this entire event.

Thank goodness his arrest is caught on video, Evan was not being disruptive or loud at all. The cops were yelling “stop resisting” even though the reporter was clearly compliant, why would they do that?

I am truly scared for the health of Ohio, this gas cloud is deadly. Officials claim it’s safe for people to come back home after the brief evacuation but experts disagree. In addition to the wide spread of emission, the gas is heavy and can linger in low areas. Why is Ohio arresting journalists when they should be declaring a state of emergency?

Is anyone here from the area? Hoping you are well.

I realize they are doing a "controlled" burn to dissipate most of the chemicals, but what about the ground soil and ground water that is already contaminated?
I thought the chemicals were already identified but this article says they revealed three more hazardous chemicals that were on the train.

Caggiano recommends anyone in the East Palestine area should get a health check-up. Get it on record where your health stands now so that moving forward you’ll have documented any effects possibly related to the train derailment.

This recent twitter thread from a former NPS ranger & USAF veteran who says she attended an Ohio State police certification may provide insight into those actions.

This story is getting buried. I cant believe it
I know a reporter asked Gen Ryder about this recently but not much was said other than contact the Ohio National Guard.

Q: Thank you. Sorry, got it. We emailed you police body camera footage showing a National Guard General in Ohio pushing my colleague and having to be escorted away from him this week.

We asked the Ohio National Guard for comment, but do you as a spokesperson for the Department of Defense condone such conduct by a commissioned officer of the U.S. Military against an American journalist?

GEN. RYDER: Yes, so to be clear, the answer is no. That's not acceptable behavior. The Secretary of Defense, the Department of Defense absolutely supports -- strongly supports a free and independent press.

So again, I'd refer you to the Ohio National Guard for any comment about that particular incident, but I can assure you that that is not acceptable behavior.

There haven't really been any developments on the arrest side of the disaster. There's another thread for the derailment and aftermath, in the Up to the Minute forum. I posted a list of local and regional news sources in that thread for anyone who wants to follow along that way.

But there are currently protests calling for the resignation of the Columbiana County Sheriff (his chief deputy was one of the arresting officers) going on at the county courthouse (source Jordan Miller News, local independent news reporter who primarily covers the counties west/south of Columbiana county, but is covering the EP situation because he grew up not far away) and Gov DeWine is holding a press conference at 3 pm (right now).
