SALEM — City police are continuing to search for a Salem man who’s been missing and hasn’t been seen since March 25, recently sharing a poster on social media and asking for the public’s help.

The missing man has been identified as Gary Warner, 67, who resides on South Union Avenue. He’s described as 6 feet tall, weighing 146 pounds, having brown hair and brown eyes.

Police have had reports from family and friends looking for him.

“The family is concerned and we’re concerned and we’re trying to locate him,” Salem Police Chief J.T. Panezott said.

The department has been working on the case for a month with the family. A dog that had been in the house was taken by the Columbiana County Humane Society to be cared for, in cooperation with police and the city humane officer. Warner’s vehicles remained at the residence.

“It’s not against the law for an adult to go missing, but this is out of character for him according to family members,” Panezott said.

Anyone with information on Warner’s whereabouts should call police at 330-337-7811.

This article mentions that LE did a wellness check on Gary when he wouldn't open the door when his brother went to his house (BBM)

"Warner says it wasn’t unusual to go a few days without hearing from his brother, especially because he was recovering from a cold.

“I didn’t really put too much into it,” Warner says. “With my mom being sick, he didn’t want to come around, but I went over to the house and I couldn’t get him to answer the door.

But Gary’s phone was going to voicemail.

Gregg Warner sent Salem police to conduct a wellness check with him. It was the last time Gary would answer his front door before disappearing without a trace."

So he answered the door for LE but wouldn't answer the door or phone calls from his brother before he left. Wondering just what was going on? Was he paranoid, scared, could there have been someone else in the house with him? I do hope he's OK and left on his own, but based on the notes about his background in the article he doesn't sound the type of person would do that without notifying someone.

The body found Jan. 8 this year by a pair of hunters in Madison Township near McCormick Run Road has been identified through DNA as missing Salem resident Gary Warner.
...
The sheriff’s office became directly involved when the two hunters found skeletal remains in the woods near McCormick Run Road between state Route 518 and Glasgow Road. At the time, McLaughlin said there was some clothing, but no wallet, keys or any other items of identification.

Case is being handled as a homicide according to article posted up thread. Hopefully LE can make a connection as to who Gary's killer is. I suspect it is someone he knows. JMO

McLaughlin said Salem personnel met with the family Friday to notify them of the findings. He said via text that the case is being handled as a homicide, but when asked about a possible cause of death, he said there was nothing to release at this time.
