I think we all know the odds are stacked against Harley Dilly. I’m still placing my bet on the long shot.
He’s somewhere, and I prefer to believe he’s alive until we know for a fact he isn’t. EVERY child deserves as much.

all in my opinion
Every child deserves to be searched for as if they are still alive. If there’s a chance, then that should be the approach.

What people think happened, has absolutely nothing to do with that. It’s about being realistic with expectations.

So what exactly made the parents feel he had run off and spent the night elsewhere?

No concern or urgency about resolving the issue?

Was that normal in their house, storm off, return and it’s not discussed?

There’s way more to this scenario that we’re not being told.

If it was not like him to runaway, and she believes he didn’t, why hasn’t she pushed back harder?

I get their not sophisticated or highly educated people. Parents know their kid. I KNOW mine would have never ran away with nothing. Mine would pack an entire set of luggage. That’s how he is. If law enforcement tried to convince me otherwise, you could bet MY MOUTH would be shouting from the rooftops begging whoever took him to let him go!

Unless he decided to meet the person or go over to a person's house After he couldn't stay home from school?

Yes! And both of my kids did exactly that. So I am assuming that LE checked for any one else who missed school that day. Or maybe he went to a house and it was just a parent there.

I feel like Harley had no set plan that morning. But that things went South.

Then there is always the possibility of self harm.

Harley, where are you?

You've voiced my thoughts perfectly here.

While I sincerely hope that HD is alive, I don't think that's likely now.

Feelings aren't Facts.

Based on the known facts r/t his disappearance and the circumstances surrounding it, including but not limited to: the weather conditions, his age, the fact that no one has heard from or seen him since at least December 20th, and 0 activity by HD on any of his SM accounts since he vanished, the overwhelming likelihood here is that HD is deceased.

Having said that, LE's obligation is to give HD the presumption of life for as long as possible and to exhaust every reasonable avenue of exploration in their search to find him.

I'm exploring the option that he left intentionally to meet someone, possibly from online. And then either things went bad, or he has run off to this person and is in hiding with them, voluntarily or otherwise.

So, maybe he asks to stay home from school that day because he knows if he doesn't have an excused absence that mom will be called if he isn't at school.

And maybe he feels sure that at some point during the day, mom will either leave the house, perhaps on errands, or maybe take a nap, at which time he could, for example, leave a note claiming he was feeling better and heading to school, even though that wasn't what he intended to actually do.

So when mom says no staying home, he heads out early in the morning, but perhaps not to school but to find a way to connect with someone online. Maybe someplace where he'll find access to the internet -- a friend's house who will let him use a computer or phone? A library?

I have no ideas beyond this point, however.

These are, indeed, the facts. Perhaps we will have an update from the L.E./ F.B.I. tomorrow.

I noticed you underlined the word "hope" - it's always there unless we hear confirmation otherwise from the authorities.

Has this been posted?

Port Clinton Police Chief sends message to missing Harley Dilly

On the department's Facebook page, Chief Rob Hickman wrote:

"HARLEY this is for you; my name is Rob Hickman, I am the Chief of Police for the Port Clinton Police Department. Please call (419) 734-3121 and ask for me, Dispatch will then contact me to speak with you and I will personally come get you, no matter your location…"

Lol. So true. If anything, he used a burner phone.
. Probably a very good chance Harley had a burner, if his electronics were not available and phone broken or confiscated. He doesn't strike me as a pouter. If denied his only way to communicate with followers, I'm pretty sure he had a plan to resolve the matter MOO My Grandson is very tech savvy and about 4 steps ahead of his parents most of the time

I don’t see a “burner phone” being involved here. How would he have paid for one & signed up for service?

Was there a half-day that day? I work at a high school and we had a half-day that day. Also, none of the classes had remotely anything substantial going on. The kids wore pajamas and snacked and watched movies.
The Friday that Harley disappeared was Ugly Sweater Day at the school. I wonder if he participated in the holiday theme week dress this particular week.
*Port Clinton High School

Mon - Polar Express Day (wear your pajamas)
Tue - Tinsel Tuesday (dress in sparkles, glitter, silver, and gold)
Wed - Santa/Snowman/Elf Day (dress as one of these characters or wear a Santa hat).
Thu - Jingle all the way to break day
Fri - Ugly Sweater Day on Friday.
Show your spirit and dress in the themes!
Holiday Spirit Theme Days at PC Schools Dec 16 -20

What Harley was wearing underneath the maroon jacket was not disclosed until Jan 5. It’s been a puzzle to me since Harley disappeared. Suddenly it’s posted in msm he was wearing a “thin sweater” when he left the morning of Dec 20. Why now is it mentioned? How does someone suddenly say this after this amount of time? Who saw him in a sweater? Is it an assumption? By whom?

*It was 18 degrees with snow on the ground when he left his home and he was last seen wearing a thin sweater, sweatpants and a thin "puffy" coat, police said.

I don't know about Port Clinton but HS kids in nearby towns almost never participate in these "theme" dress up days. The only one they usually take advantage of is "pajama day". lol

, Available at most big box stores/ pharmacy chain stores/ convenience stores. Cards with codes at varying increments 20/50/100 bucks for hours that are paid in advance. Activation is simple so is adding minutes. Would be a breeze. I don't think we have any idea if he was close to followers or had friends he was tight with ,LE and parents May but we don't. That leaves a lot of open possible locations . Communication here is key. MOO Nice to see you here AC :)

“We are still waiting to have Christmas with you,” Heather Dilly said. “We want you to come home, we want you to be safe. Your family misses you.”

Volunteers from Port Clinton and other counties gathered in Lakeview Park to search for the missing 14-year-old boy, who Heather clamored to come home.

“I just don’t know what else to say," she said. “We just love you, and you need to come home.”

Camera footage believed to depict Harley wearing a red coat depicts him walking down East 5th Avenue.

“This has been bigger than we ever imagined, the love and support for our son. And he just needs to know how much he is loved and wanted. He just needs to come home. We miss you so much," said Heather Dilly, his mother. "Harley, we love you. Please come home. You're not in trouble."

"We are extremely worried about you. We organized this search for you today. You call the Port Clinton Police Department at 419-734-3121, you ask for me and I will come and get you personally, no matter where you're at," Hickman said.

I’ve bought a few of these in my lifetime, various types and pay as you go service.
Burner smart type phone would not be cheap like a cheapie flip phone.
And he would burn thru minutes/data - so he would need an unlimited minute/data plan.
Buy phone at Walmart - add the $40 Verizon unlimited data plan gift card usually hanging right above the phones, easily spend over $100.
I don’t see him having $100 to spend.

I wake up every morning, take care of my own kids, then immediately check on Harley news/updates. His mother’s words this morning about waiting to have Christmas with him really got to me. I hope I wake up to good news one day soon.
