I was just reading City-Data stats on Port Clinton, and looking at their city page. Looks like a nice little coastal village. Crime stats are good, although they do have 17 registered sex offenders, which is notable for a population under 6k. However, all in all this looks like a very unlikely little town for a nefarious crime.
But aren’t they all I guess.
amateur opinion and speculation

Roses, where did you see that crime stats are good?
Port Clinton isn't a good area when it comes to crime. Maybe violent crime stats are low? But theft, property damage, drug stats? Are all pretty high in the area.

Google Summary :
Relative to Ohio, Port Clinton has a crime rate that is higher than 89% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes. The overall crime rate in Port Clinton is 24% higher than the national average. For every 100,000 people, there are 8.78 daily crimes that occur in Port Clinton. Port Clinton is safer than 29% of the cities in the United States. In Port Clinton you have a 1 in 32 chance of becoming a victim of any crime.

Alleys are common in PC but there isn't an abundance of back alley parking. Most of it is on-street or driveway parking. I don't discount the theory of a possible accident. I use google earth, you can drop down and actually walk around the area in person if the google car has driven on those streets. I wanted to upload a 3d screenshot of the area but I need to read the posting rules more, I think in my last post I made an error by quoting an outside source without providing the source. My apologies everyone. I've been a long-time reader not a poster and want to make sure I'm staying in the guidelines here. Man, you guys really post fast, how do you all keep up! woo.

Just want to take a moment to thank all of the local posters participating in discussions. Your insight helps me to better understand the area and the people within it! :)

And a HUGE welcome to all of the recent newcomers; glad you have joined us!

I’ve hit a wall. I think I’ve covered every possible scenario in my mind. I’m all out of ideas.
With one exception- Maybe someone along his route to school seized the opportunity to snatch him.
I’m wondering if anyone along that route missed work/school on Friday.

Maybe someone didnt need to miss work, someone working the night shift could possibly be driving home around 6am?

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

I was the poster who originally brought up coyotes because a resident of the town reported hearing a group of them south of Wilcox Rd yesterday morning and said she has seen one on Fulton in the past. Fulton is the street which borders the eastern boundary of school grounds.

I don’t think anyone on here has speculated Harley may have been attacked by them; merely that their presence in the area could account for displacement of remains, especially given the 42 plus hour passage of time from disappearance to report that Harley was missing.

I would think accident but there were dogs all over the area. If there had been one I would think the dogs would have hit on something.

Although it's still possible that is the case and LE just hasn't released it.

I finally got to my lap top to use Google satellite and want to correct something I posted earlier.

The alley Harley used is near direct south in front of Harley's home. These four images show the path. If you look at the last image marked by me - he likely took the white route by the white house and not the yellow route by the yellow house.

My post with the yellow house is *incorrect* and I apologize. We walked so much the day we were out there and there are actually a couple of alley's that go all the way through that without satellite view on my phone I got confused.

These images below show more detail / accuracy.
Images 1-4 show the alley way entirely to the hospital parking lot. There appears to be two garages facing the alleyway. At the end of the alley is parking for the hospital.

The alley doesn't go all the way through. Image 3. THIS could have been a prime spot to pick Harley up at.

Looks like we are both wandering around on google earth, lol. =)

Keep in mind that this is speculation/ rumor.

I've tried to get a coyote into my car thinking it was a lost dog.
 Seriously. Not my brightest moment.

I'm not doubting a sighting in the area this person referred to as it's near a big park where the coyotes probably stick pretty close to. It could have also been a dog. I am doubting that they were anywhere near the hospital. They're pretty shy skittish animals that try to stay away from humans and car populated areas.

Anybody here know how to set up a poll?

I'm just wondering if we polled posters here what the prevailing sentiment would be as to the reason for HD's disappearance among the following:
  • Misadventure/Accident
  • Suicide
  • Runaway/In Hiding
  • Foul Play by Person(s) known to HD
  • Online Predator
  • Stranger Abduction

I will agree to dis
BBM:

The reason I'm inclined to believe this bit is true is because there's no real reason to lie about it.

It paints a terribly unflattering picture of his mother, for one thing.

The storyline, "Hey, my kid complained to me that he felt sick that morning, but I told him to haul his butt off to school, regardless, and oh, yeah, I didn't even bother to lay eyes on him before he walked out the door," is generally not the type of narrative a parent wants to invent if they're trying to garner public sympathy.

I do believe HD complained of not feeling well that morning.

I will agree to DISAGREE...
She holds the brush that paints the picture, and she sure is not picasso.
41 hours later, did not see him just talked to him....
Believe her if you want...however being a parent myself , when my kids state they are not feeling well I SEE them. Just my thoughts.

The only thing I’m confident about, is that Harley is no longer alive.

I’m torn between some sort of misadventure, or foul play by someone close to him.

ADMIN NOTE:

Numerous off topic, personal anecdote posts have been removed. Please stay on topic and discuss the specifics of Harley's case.

Additionally, all members are required to familiarize themselves with The Rules that Websleuths has in place. Newer members need to learn them and, of course, veteran members might need to refresh their understanding of those rules. The Rules can be found here and are also linked in my signature. One thing that will almost certainly result in a temporary or permanent loss of posting privileges is rudeness, snark, and personal attacks against other members.

Coyotes are more prevalent than we realize. They are in downtown Chicago. We just had a small child attacked by a Coyote in Lincoln Park and a man was bit on the butt in the Gold Coast. This particular animal was limping, but January through March is mating season for Coyotes so they are more aggressive to pets. I've seen them in my own neighborhood.

That said, I don't think Harley was attacked by a coyote.

I am so confused about everything. There are still so many inconsistencies . There is a big difference in questioning the parents and blaming them. There is also a difference in respecting the police and questioning how they use social media. I don't blame the parents I respect the police, but I have a lot of questions.

I agree that the odds are overwhelming that HD is deceased.

To me, everything hinges on whether that grainy image LE "believes to be" HD IS in fact HD.

If that ain't Harley, I think we're looking at foul play by someone known to him.

If that IS HD, I think it's suicide.
It may in fact perhaps even have been an unintentional suicide, i.e., he may have made a gesture, not intending it to be successful…but it was.

I set up a poll for you GordianKnot. First time doing so and hope it works as planned. (FYI, have to start a new thread in the main forum (i.e. Missing Discussion), choose More Options and scroll down to the Poll section.)

Your map is showing an alley that goes to Magruder Hospital, not the school.
The alley is parallel to Fulton if I recall, which leads to school, also would lead to the hospital which is pretty close to his house. ( only 1.5 blocks away)My question is does this hospital incinerate it’s own garbage.LE could Take the sniffer dogs there if they do. Most hospitals send this out to a third party disposal co but this hospital looks small time.

Wow, this is fantastic, thank you so much, SillyBilly!!

FTR, though, I'm not sure you'd consider my "home-baked chocolate cookies" a treat.

I pretty much inflict my cooking on people as punishment.
I probably ought to apply for a job as a cook at a maximum security prison.
It would almost certainly solve any overcrowding problems they might be experiencing.
