Just my opinion, but I think the roommates/friends knew something was up. The ex probably used them to make Nicole feel safe visiting the home and put her guard down when he invited her there. Not saying they killed her, just that they might be able to help the police. Perhaps they were all partying at the time and were afraid to come forward because they were using illicit drugs.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed the remains were 39-year-old Nicole Slusser.
