MAY 16

*UPDATE* The Dayton Police Department is still actively looking for Penny Boddie. We have a picture of her wearing a blue shirt when she was last seen. She was last seen Sunday May 14, 2023, at 9:17 p.m.

She was seen going eastbound on Cornell near Wesleyan. She was with a male acquaintance who has since been located.

Where did her acquaintance leave her and why if she has dementia and uses a wheelchair?

Surely someone is hiding miss penny, I can't imagine it's easy to be missing using a wheelchair.

Awwww hate to see type of situation. Something seems off about this.

A male acquaintance? My first thought when I looked at the photo was that it was simply another customer at the (gas station or convenience store ot looks like?) Who helped her enter the place. Wouldn't classify that as a male acquaintance though.....so who was that guy?

Boddie's family said she was in the care of the CareCore at Mary Scott nursing home. They said she left the facility, unsupervised, Sunday night with her friend. Her friend has been accounted for, however, Boddie remains missing.

Her niece, Carrie Moore, said she suffers from Alzheimer's Disease, is wheelchair-bound, and is diabetic. Moore told Dayton 24/7 Now's Gwyneth Falloon that she was frustrated with the nursing home, but just wants Boddie to come home safely.

“We love you," Moore stated. "We love you to pieces.”

“She’s sweet, super sweet, funny, and giddy," shared Moore. “She has not had medication since Sunday.”

Police said she was last seen just after 9 p.m. Sunday. Moore said that Boddie, and another resident with dementia, left the facility unsupervised after stepping out for a smoke break.

“Where they go and smoke is not closed in," informed Moore. "We’re finding out bits and pieces of the information and piecing it together.”

Her friend has been located, but police are still actively searching for Boddie. The family turned to the nursing home for answers, saying they were not even notified she was missing until the next morning.

“They should’ve called us Sunday when they couldn’t find her," said Moore.

Moore said Boddie has been in the care of CareCore since 2018 and has had zero concerns, until now.

According to Medicare's website, CareCore at Mary Scott has paid five federal fines within the last three years. Penalties are given when a nursing home gets a “serious health or fire citation, or fails to correct a citation for a long period of time.”

The facility declined to comment, however, Boddie’s family met with its supervisor. Moore said she did not get the answers she was looking for.

This is very upsetting. It sounds like both Penny and her friend have dementia. He might not remember where they were last. She is wheelchair bound so she's not walking around. IMO

There is a possibility that she got a ride somewhere. Detectives have checked and she's not at any area hospital. The search for Ms. Boddie has been quite extensive. Primary search efforts concluded at approximately 11pm last night and have since resumed this morning.

She was last seen in a wheelchair and has very limited mobility

Another picture taken from CCTV.

reports stated she was in a pink shirt, it's actually blue.

I can't believe she hasn't been found! I'm guessing local homeless shelters and other similar places have been informed to be on the lookout for her? Depending on how severe her dementia is, I could see others maybe thinking she has some other form of (untreated) mental illness & assuming she's homeless and directing her to a shelter or another place that serves free meals to the homeless, not knowing she's actually missing from a nursing home.

Is her wheelchair her own personal wheelchair or did it come from the nursing home and if so, is that facility's name or info perhaps on a sticker or in permanent marker on the back of the wheelchair?

I wonder when/why her and the male who escaped with her parted ways since he has since been located/accounted for

I am not certain from the breadcrumbs that the person on video with her is the same person she left with. There is some confusion about the friend who was accounted for and the person on video IMO.

Well that's good to know, is it mentioned on MSM or chatter?
Also, has it been mentioned if she was in a store in that picture and if so what store? I looked around and didn't see it mentioned. TIA

I just saw this, so very sad.
The Silver Alert for Penny Boddie has been canceled. She was found deceased this evening, according to Dayton Police.

The department does not suspect foul play at this time, according to their tweet on Wednesday evening.

My prayers to Penny and her family.

Rip. I'm really curious where she was found. It seems like it had to be somewhere hidden, otherwise people would have noticed a woman in a wheelchair who appeared confused imo.

I wonder how insulin dependent she was? Whatever her cause and manner of death, I hope she didn't suffer.

SNIPPED:
The man has been located and police told News Center 7 after they found her body on Wednesday, they did not suspect foul play.

Penny’s daughters say Boddie was full of life and energy and a beautiful person on the inside.

They also believe the nursing home did not do its job.

“The nursing home failed us, the nursing home failed us,” said Georgianna King, Boddie’s daughter. “We put our mother there to be safe and for them to take care of her and they did not do that. They did not watch out for her.”
Snipped:
Lewis says the Ohio Department of Health also released to News Center 7.

“Any loss of life is always tragic. The incident is being thoroughly investigated by the Ohio Department of Health and pending the outcome of the investigation, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will issue their decision and may impose penalties.”

Lewis reached out to the nursing home and they could not comment.

The family says they now have legal representation.
Snipped: The family of Penny Boddie held a balloon launch in her memory on Friday evening.

Earlier this week, Dayton 24/7 Now’s Malena Brown did some research into the facility, and found that it had a history of deficiencies, including issues with residents’ quality of life, care, and rights
The Ohio Department of Health is investigating the incident.

The nursing facility was given two out of five stars for an overall rating on medicare.gov.

Overall-Mary-Scott-rating.jpg

Inspections conducted by the state of Ohio show the overall health rating for the nursing home is one star, which is described as ‘Much Below Average.’ Staffing at the facility received a one-star rating as well.

On July 21, 2022, the facility received its latest noted health inspection, according to the full report. During the inspection, a total of 20 citations were given, well above both the state and national average. In Ohio, the average is 10.2 health citations, while the national average is 8.7.

Medicare also reports nine complaints over the past three years that resulted in a citation for the location. One citation came from an infection control inspection, which took place sometime in the past 3 years, Medicare said.

The facility also was subject to 5 federal fines totaling $141,806 over the past 3 years, including one for $110,885 in July 2022, Medicare reports.
