There aren't opposing views in this forum about who killed the Rhodens. Everyone here believes DeWine, BCI and Reader when they say the evidence clearly shows the Wagners were the killers. So far, there's been no evidence to question their decision.

But, yes, in the past, defense teams have exploited social media to manufacture controversy where none exists to help their clients accused of murder. It wouldn't be surprising if the Wagner team is spending money to do the same thing. Just be careful to not take the bait and avoid sites that spread a lot of unverified rumors.

Agree. The state needs to stop hoarding information about these murders and share more about the evidence they have. Otherwise, the defense is releasing that information in a very selective, distorted manner, possibly even misrepresenting the evidence.

State needs to put some evidence cards on the table or the defense is going to scam the public with a phony stacked deck of their own. Either that or refute the junk the defense is putting out in the news media.

I'm not quite certain how the state can argue or state anyting on the record or show their cards Etc when they agreed to the terms of a gag order. Wagner's attorneys say she was charged with obstruction and lying to the grand jury because of the vests they say she bought from eBay through her PayPal account.

"I made a mistake; I'm nearly 77-years-old," she said of citing Amazon.

"We were terrified; everybody was," Wagner told The Plain Dealer in a recent interview. She said when she heard about the slayings, she first thought they were the result of a "terrorist attack."

Her Columbus attorneys say the error should not have led to charges.

"It's like telling people that you paid for your wife's Christmas present with a MasterCard," Wagner's attorney, James Owen, told the newspaper. "But you made a mistake and really used a Visa. It's a distinction without a difference."

If it turns out that the state charged her with GJ perjury because they checked her Amazon records but not her Paypal before charging her with a felony, well that would just shake my whole confidence in these prosecutors, BIG time. Yes and this is a big question.....Is Fred's "team" slanting the facts to fit their not guilty narrative? There is no gag order on Fred, her attorney opposed it and no way could her attorney have her giving interviews if the gag order had been put in place.

And the prosecution can't respond BECAUSE of the gag order on them!

ETA: The oddest part of this story is that all of the Plain Dealer's readers today are asking "why is this on the front page?" Not really a big news story up in NEO. People are unsure why they need to care about this weird old lady.


Time to start some new sleuthing. Checking into FW's background, her attorneys and following the money to see how it connects all this together.

Exactly what I think too, no gag order and the State can't respond because they AGREED to a gag order, FW's attorney did not agree to a gag order and also said in court that they would talk to the media, now they have. (Her attorney was VERY vocal about this in the hearing ------- the prosecution slandering her, the gag order, and talking to the media.)

Agree. However, FW’s lawyer is doing what he’s paid to do. Sadly. The state needs to step up their game. Surely the state investigated FW’s PayPal account and eBay purchases along with her Amazon account. They should have investigated all of her accounts.

Jake Wagner and his family murdered the Rhoden family and Hannah Gilley in cold blood and left two infants and a toddler alone with their dead bodies for several hours, putting the infants at risk, too. The Wagner family brutally stole the lives of those children's parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

I can't imagine any of the surviving Rhoden or Gilley family members have any kind thoughts or feelings towards Jake Wagner or his family today. I can't imagine they would be offended by anything bad I have to say about the suspected killer Jake Wagner and his family - Billy Wagner, Angela Wagner, GW Wagner IV, Fredericka Wagner and Rita Jo Newcomb.

In a past interview Fredericka was talking about the horse that her and Bob had bought that made their farm famous, I think they called it littte blue boy, she kept telling who ever interviewed her that when they were buying it that they did not take no for an answer even bragged about when the Wagners wanted something they got it, this case is no different than buying that horse, she a over barring old woman that will buy or say anything to get her out of trouble.

Her attorney is under a gag order, but he's obviously aiding her in spreading this misinformation. He's sitting right there during the interview feeding her lines. He is coaching her. If the state and judge allow this to continue, there will be a really big problem. Prosecution is not slandering her when the charges are based on facts. She will have her day in court to challenge their evidence, but she and her attorney should NOT be allowed to try her case in the news media.

The date of purchase should speak for itself, before or after the murders. IF they charged her with lying about where she brought vests instead of when, if they knew they were purchased after the murders and still charged her, that will totally surprise and shake me. I can't believe that's really what happened JMO, hope to God it's not.

Personally, I'm not taking the bait from Fred Wagner and her attorney. This is an old scam they're running, with a new twist on social media.

Rhoden murder pretrials begin again Wednesday - Portsmouth Daily Times

At the time of the arrests, during a press conference and prior to the imposition of a gag order by Pike County Court of Common Pleas Judge Randy Deering, DeWine said those child custody papers may be at the heart of the motive for the murders, adding there seemed to be a definite fixation on child custody on the part of the Wagners.

Again, during the initial press conference following the arrest, DeWine said officials believe the responsible parties are now in custody and no other individuals were involved in the mass murders.

There have been numerous, in fact, dozens of pretrial motions already filed by the various defense lawyers. One of the more notable and potentially highly impactful, asks for a change of venue in the case of Angela Wagner. Early on during the pretrials, observers seemed to expect most, if not all, of the Wagner family suspects to request a change in venue. So far, Angela Wagner appears to be the only suspect to do so.

Angela Wagner’s motion reads in part: “a change of venue is necessary in this case because extensive and ongoing pretrial publicity makes it presumptively impossible to seat an impartial jury in this county.”

Very interesting that the Wagners are so worried about pre-trial publicity, yet are working overtime to do just that. More proof they are grossly dishonest people who have no morals or ethics. The Bible thumping is just a dodge for them. JMO

Seems incredibly off-the-wall unethical bordering on malfeasance for her attorney to have her make such a claim regarding an electronic purchase with records easily verified by LE. I don't know what to think about it Betty.

A gag order on Fred's Court Case would apply to both her and her attorneys, they could not talk about the case the way they just did in the video interview (her attorney is participating in the interview just by being there.)

: a judicial ruling barring public disclosure or discussion (as by the press) of information related to a case

At Fred's hearing AC asked for a gag order and Fred's attorney opposed it, the Judge told AC to put it in writing--- the reasons for the gag order--- and then he would read it and make a decision.

It appears to me that Judge Deering made the decision to deny the gag order against Fred.
I hold this opinion based on the video interview that Fred and her attorney just released to the media, a video interview in which she and her attorney detail her case and why the evidence shows she's not guilty. A gag order prohibits this.

***** If Judge Deering did indeed grant the gag order then Fred and her legal team are in contempt of court and the Judge will likely reference this contempt violation at Fred's next hearing.

*****And yes, if Fred is in fact under a gag order, I do think it's possible that Fred is violating this gag order DELIBERATELY and doesn't care. She could be that desperate to regain her former reputation and have people "take Wagner checks" again.
