A mechanic (ex) back in the day, could roll back the odometer. But I don't know if you can on newer cars/trucks, they have computer's now. But it's easy enough to have a diagnostic machine or your one now. Since all the Rhonden's. Wagners , Manley's worked in the car business, bet one of them knew how.Js

Oh absolutely. I was thinking it was stuck that way for a long time though. If the Ms had any part in the hand off of the vehicle, and wanted the odometer to stay the same, I'm sure that they could roll it back on an old vehicle like that. My husband is kind of a shadetree mechanic, does a lot of his own work, and it's not difficult on old vehicles. On a new one, it's more difficult and he'd not be able to do that (not that he would). I remember hearing in the recent podcast about JM/the Ms, being mechanically gifted.

That 22k jump in mileage is still puzzling though.

The way I remember it, you used to need the title of a car changed to salvage to be able to "junk it" and get money for parts from it, at least that was what happened in Ky.
Seems to me, that in Ohio if it's a salvaged title you have to register it again and prove that it's road worthy and it is issued a new title, I think.

I have been through the salvage title process and yes, you have to register the vehicle as a salvage, then do the repairs, get it certified through the state, and have the sheriff verify that it runs (in Ky anyway), and the state sends a code to the county, and then they release a salvage title, and mail it to you, and you take that to the courthouse, iirc. It was a pain, I do remember that.

And JB put this truck in his name 2 months prior to the murders.

We don't know who owned the truck before it came into JM's possession, so it's probably best that we don't speculate about that. Essentially, we're speculating about someone LE suspected of driving the truck in the area the night of the murders.

That said, LE knows who owned the truck at the time of the murders. I would hope they've been questioned and GPS trackers placed on whatever vehicle they're driving. Is it possible LE put the GPS tracker on the truck before it was given or sold to JM? LM said it was put on the truck while the family was attending the 1 yr memorial service. If LE saw the truck on video near the crime scenes that night, that should be enough to convince a judge to place it there long ago.

The warrant specifically states the tracker was placed on the truck on 4-22-17, the time, the location, and which LE official placed the tracker. So, I don’t believe LE placed that tracker before the truck was given or sold to JM.

Very interesting, but could it have been used as a state work vehicle, and had mandatory vehicle checks. I didn't work for the state but if we drove a company car, we had to have mandatory checks done, and do walk arounds each morning. Mileage checks were part of how they tracked when a mandatory check-up was done, etc... I never asked for a company car b/c of all the headache. I just carried the mandatory insurance limits required by the company, on my own vehicle, and got reimbursed for mileage. I ran the VIN on another site and it came back that there was no salvage titles applied for and that's pretty much all that site checked for. If it was stolen, and if it was a salvage (I'm too cheap to pay for the carfax... but Kudos to you! :) ).

I’m doubtful on it being used as a state work vehicle or a company vehicle because of the age and overall appearance of the truck.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear, and I'm probably wrong too. I meant that maybe it was purchased by the state, originally, had been used over time, then bought at some sort of sale, then handed on down. The ones that are sold here, after state agencies are done with them, look rough sometimes. Of course this one, has already been through two owners prior to JM so, the mileage stats would have stopped after the state sold the vehicle. That 22k miles is very odd though. In just one month. That's the equivalent of driving from there, to Key West, and back, eight times in one month if my cipherin' is correct.

You’re all good-no worries:) thank you for clarifying. That makes sense for sure. Perhaps the original purchase was done by the state and it was used as a state vehicle.

Yes that 22k miles is weird. And it’s less than a month, it’s 12 days from 8/28/15-9/9/15. Averages out to 1860 miles driven per day-which is impossible isn’t it?

Did you also find it odd that BJM had two friends with her that early in the morning? I guess for me that’s something that’s considered outside of the “norm”. Maybe I wouldn’t find it odd had it been late morning, say after 10am, but 7 am is early (atleast in my world because I’m not a morning person). JMHO

You know for some reason I don't think many neighbors or other's involved with this case had any trouble staying up all night. Where you see early morning to some that's just part of the night before. Also with mj there, maybe people needed their "fix" early in the morning, like other's have to have their coffee.

Funny thing is, that truck looks like it's on it's last legs. Looks like it probably smokes when you start it up and I bet the mufflers not in great shape either. Reminds of all those other junk cars that were around CRsr's. Wonder if LE/BCI noticed any new parts on that truck to make it quiet and smoke free?

I have known of folks who have ridden to Sturgis, SD, and that's around 1,300 miles at least, on a m/c, one way, straight through. It would take at least 23 hours, driving non-stop, no traffic issues, averaging 80mph, to do 1,860 miles in one day. Someone young, could likely do it, or with a co-pilot, and on a mission. Then, say they stay where they land and rack up miles there for a few days, and make the 1,860 mile journey back, in one day. Could it be, that there was no first AK family vaca? That first photo that was put up, on that AK vaca, was an old pic, I'm almost positive. Maybe someone loaned out their vehicle?

Edit: No, that was in August of 2015. Perhaps someone went somewhere though, far away, to do some business, stayed for awhile, had to run here and there, and then came back. That's a lot of driving but I know folks who stay on the road. They are mobile, constantly. The tires never cool off.

I hear what you’re saying lol I guess I should have taken that into account. I need to remind myself that when considering some things surrounding this case that not all was “normal”

Again another point, the Manleys helped CRsr transporting salvaged cars and would know this info, anyone who went with them could also know.

I believe anything is possible and wouldn’t be surprised anymore to find out in the future, that is in fact the case. Or at least something very similar. I’m gonna have to do the math on this one (literally) and see if it’s possible to drive round trip to AK in such a short time plus add another 13k-ish miles on top of that. AK to and back would be shy of 9k miles. That leaves 13k more mikes to account for.

Depends on what route to take to get there. Maybe they took the scenic route to get rid of some things?

Those light on the red truck remind me of a hunter. Could be used to spot-light deer in the dark. JMO and we are thinking some of the same things.
amauel1 I believe the truck is on its last legs. But if you are an avid hunter the spotlights are invaluable.

The truck changed hands on 8/28/15, 9/9/15, 10/1/15.

The mileage on 8/28/2015 was 197,682

" 9/9/2015 was 220,000

" 10/01/2015 was 220,000

" 02/24/2016 was 222,591

" 03/02/2017 was 227,793

Could it be as simple as someone tried to roll it back, but screwed up and rolled it forward? Not sure about that year but you used to could attach a cordless drill to them and roll them backward, maybe they accidentally reversed the drill, and rolled it forward, and just said screw it and made it a nice even number. Just a thought.

Could be. I guess either way, whether it really was driven 20k+ miles in 12 days or if someone was rolling the odometer, there was definitely something probably not legal going on with that truck.

Along the same line of thinking.

Old video. But I thought I’d share it again because even 2 years later, it’s still so surreal to see the properties and how truly secluded they were out on UHR.

At one point, they were all living in what became FR's trailer weren't they? KR lived in the yellow house for awhile, then moved to LF, and it's possible that CR1 was staying in the "business" trailer to show that he wasn't living under the same roof as DR (her relationship status was "it's complicated"). That distanced the "business" from all of the kids, and grandkids.

Who was living at the place with the heart shaped pond that KR's daughter talked about swimming and or fishing with HMR? I thought DR and the kids lived there before moving to the new place on UHR. I can't believe they all lived in that on trailer house with FR, HHG and the kids. That would have been a huge crowd of people in that trailer house.
